What the fuck.
And another thing, in his FFXIII vlog, Spoony says that FFX had superior storytelling because Tidus is an everyman character in a foreign world who the audience can relate to and provides a vehicle for plot exposition. Yet in part 3 of his FFX review, he decries how Tidus isn't the main character and how it's impossible for anyone to relate to him.
So...yeah. Spoony's losing it.
The matter of confusion isn't that he seems to be praising X in the other review, but that he makes two irreconcilable statements about Tidus across these two reviews.
The two statements aren't irreconcilable though. In his FFXIII vlog he stated that the thing FFX did betterthen FFXIII was having a character who didn't know shit about the world he was in. Therefore various people would explain what things were and key peices of history and knowledge to Tidus, and by extension the player.
In part 3 of his FFX review he statesthat Tidus is not the main character, but Yuna is, and that you can't really relate to him as a person due to him being an athletic superstar.
These two statements do not contradict each other.
Here's a brief recap of what Spoony said in his FFXIII vlog:
"Even Final Fantasy X had better storytelling than this, because it's a strange, unfamiliar world with different customs, different sports, different everything. Nothing is familiar, but you know what that game had to help things along - Tidus. If Tidus did one thing right, it was that he was the dumb-ass everyman character that people had to explain things to. That's called exposition. That's called having a character who's a frame of reference for the audience."
Then in the FFX review, he goes on to say not only Tidus is an implausible, insufferable twerp, but he has no place being the main character, nay in the story altogether. Spoony is totally contradicting himself on both points. Either credit FFX for having an everyman character or don't. It sounds like he's trying to hedge his bets for this particular satire.
We're talking about Tidus's role in the game, not his personality. Spoony went from saying Tidus is an effective everyman in his FFXIII vlog, to saying he's a pointless character who has no purpose in the story, in the FFX review. He's either one or the other.
But he wasn't born thinking 'WHOEVER THIS TIDUS PERSON IS I HATE HIM' right? Unless his actual thought process was 'I HATE ANYONE WHO PLAYS SPORTS AND BECOMES SUCCESSFUL' or something. I guess I just don't get why so many people hate Tidus so much.Tidus is relate-able to us, but that doesn't mean Spoony finds him that way. Spoony seems to have a seething hatred of Tidus so it would be harder for him to relate to Tidus than it isfor us because most of us don't hate Tidus.

I think we can all agree that Tidus is an annoying cunt.
fixed.I think we can all agree that Spoony's opinion is an annoying cunt.
Kinda sucks basing your taste on an erroneous and twisted initial impression though. That's how bad taste is created.
People shouldn't be so closeminded and quick to judge just because someone does something they don't like.
I mean, hell. There are lots of people I know who do shit that annoy me, but I don't instantly judge them and say they're annoying cunts. There's that saying about judging books by their covers and all, for a reason.
Thats true, but it doesn't change the fact that different people prefer different types of characters over others. Tidus is the character who starts off as an annoying and somewhat immature person who gradually grows out of it. Some people jsut don't like that type of character, and there is nothing wrong with that. Tidus simply isn't everyones cup of tea.

Those people need to shut up, sit down, and drink their goddamn tea.
