Again, it's cause she hasn't read any REAL vampire book, not Interview with a Vampire or even Dracula. Sure, she says these are on her list, but basically she's taken this tangible being from her wet dream, and took a random mythological race, mashed em together by adding in her own tastes. Sure, things can slide about the whole "vegetarianism" thing because that's at least explained in the book. But sparkling, venom and SPERM PRODUCING DEAD GUYS (that still gets me) are not the traits of a Vampire.

If she didn't learn from books she sure as shit has watched movies.

It's bullshit that she hasn't been exposed to real vampires in some way.

She's also gone on to claim that Linkin Park and MCR have served as inspiration whilst writing this waste of trees. If that doesn't seal the deal that this book is nothing more than publicised vampire fanfiction then I don't know what will.

Is it true you've never seen a vampire movie?
I've seen little pieces of Interview with a Vampire when it was on TV, but I kind of always go YUCK! I don't watch R-rated movies, so that really cuts down on a lot of the horror. And I think I've seen a couple of pieces of The Lost Boys, which my husband liked, and he wanted me to watch it once, but I was like, It's creepy!"

Also, I don't have a problem with vampires not getting killed by light. It's a fresh spin and every author is untitled to their own artistic license. I mean, the show Supernatural has vampires that can go out in the day. They don't, because they are still nocturnal by nature and they don't like the sun, but it doesn't kill them.

But yeah sparkles are a no for me. :/

My main gripe with Twilight was that the climax was a total cop out. I wanted to see a vampire fight, not Bella suddenly wake up to everything being okay. >:(

THEY'RE NOT VAMPIRES. Smeyer has basically taken something pre-existing and repackaged it because it's easier to sell than making up a new race no one's heard of. Unfortunately, Meyerpires are just a poor excuse of something that used to be awesome. >;

Also, I'm still looking for that interview but she has explicitely said that her meyerpires sparkle for a scientific reason, such as having an extra chromosome or some shit. But I'm still waiting on her explanation on how these books (especially Breaking Dawn) isn't a poster child on how necrophilia is okay (well, not okay but encouraged as long as the guy's hot). Also on how dead guys produce sperm. :monster:
