Re: Stephen King pwns Stephanie Meyer FGJ

My favourite part tho, has to be this. Where she compares her characters to others, calling the BellaxEdward love true, and calling other couples stupid, superficial, rushed..

Tw Staff: Reading Twilight it came to me the story of Westley and Buttercup. Is Bella and Edward love, True Love like theirs?
Stephenie: Actually Bella and Edward love story is better than them. When I was in college I wrote a lot of papers from a feminine perspective (it’s an easy way to write) on the princess bride. Buttercup is an idiot and it doesn’t bother anyone, all that matters is that she’s beautiful, at the end she became a little more smart, but the female characters are very weak in that story. Westley is brave and smart and fights, Buttercup is just beautiful, it’s her only thing, her brain means nothing, her personality means nothing to him, they have the kind of love where they can’t leave without each other. It’s not a great example to me, I couldn’t find one who was a really good comparison to me, I mean, Elizabeth Bennet and Mr.Darcy’s it’s pretty good, except you should think that if either one of them dies the other one will carry on bravely, and Romeo and Juliet were kind of idiots, they didn’t know each other very well. And Anna Of Green Gables and Gilbert Blythe (Anna dai capelli rossi), but they are much more like Jacob and Bella, they’re friend they get the nerves of each other a lot. I didn’t find out yet a Bella and Edward love story that really satisfied me that way.

Does anybody else find this incredibly ironic?

It's actually just sickenly dawned on me that she genuinely believes she's written something that she believes will one day be a classic.

Ugh what a disgusting woman.

And that's hard to realize since she's said "I wrote it for myself... I didn't intend to be an author.. I didn't intend for it to be published..."

ANYTHING pwns Stephanie Meyer. Her view on vampires is warped, and unimpressive. She makes a lot of errors in her books. There is nothing but bitchy Bella, and crappy dialogue. It was fun to read for the lulz.

Oh god, Twilight. How did this woman get this self-insert fanfic published? I've never seen such an obvious Mary Sue, and this woman wouldn't know character development and pacing if she shit on it.

But the worst part, IMHO, is the message it sends young girls. ATTENTION, adolescent (and not so adolescent) females: If a guy follows you everywhere, sneaks into your room at night to watch you sleep, chases away your friends, gets angry for every little thing and uses anger to control you, treats you like a china doll and doesn't let you make decisions for yourself ... IT'S NOT ROMANTIC. HE'S A FUCKING STALKER SICKO FREAK. What kind of women find this guy's behavior romantic and idealistic? And what are we teaching the 13-year-old girls of the world?

As for King, haven't read any of his stuff in a good 10 years but I remember The Stand being pretty awesome and IT scared the stuff out of me.

I have not read Twilight or seen the movie adaptation. I purchased the book, and do wish to give it a read someday. Today is not the day. I have other books that take precidence.

I have flipped through it (as I do all my books) and have seen the style of which at least those sentences were written in. If this is what people are talking about 'poor writing' - I can see what they mean. Personally, I would say different, and a little more long winded than necessary.

I'm not able to fully judge. I have heard great and horrible things about it. *shrug* I think I repeated what I said before, though. :P

I think going through the hassle of getting a book published casts doubt on "I never meant to be an author and publish this book."

I fixed your interview, Mrs. Meyer.

From just chapter one, everyone (but Edward) wants to be friends with Bella but she's a bitch to the ones who aren't attractive. Eric and Mike do pretty much the same thing (are nice to her, offer to help her, take an interest in her), yet she's only nice to Mike, the cuter one. She cries herself to sleep worrying about not fitting in, then when people are nice to her she brushs them off if they aren't models. She uses words like 'ivory-skinned, slender, soft' to describe Bella like they're bad qualities. All the vampires insanely beautiful, as you have to spend several paragraphs reading about it. But everyone else is short, unattractive, annoying or jealous. The whole chapter was superficial.

Chapter one was so bad I wouldn't have expected the rest to get any worse, but the more I hear about it the more it sounds like it actually does get worse.

Re: Stephen King pwns Stephanie Meyer FGJ

I've read the first and last chapters after borrowing the book (won't pay for it), read exerpts online about how flowery the language is an shiz. I saw the movie, wasn't at all impressed except for the baseball scene. But the book is just.... For a 500 page book, it takes 365 pages before any plot comes in, 327 pages before any other romantisized plot other than Bella and Edward comes in, and there;s no climax. Bella faints during the fight, she wakes up, and she's okay. :/

Perhaps I'll start reading it now and see what I have to say after chapter one. Perhaps I should give myself a cool off, 'cause what you say puts me right off.

I can say this: I read the back description, the part where Bella is saying that Edwards and vampire and she is in love with him. Thing is, when I was done reading those three or four sentences, I was like 'this girl is insane.'

Why would someone willingly put themselves in mortal danger with someone who... basically wants to eat them. It makes no sense, to me. It's like someone who's abused but keeps saying 'but I know he loves me!'

Yeah, I was truly frustrated with that description. But, again, I need to read more to give a more indepth and accurate opinion. :-\

Re: Stephen King pwns Stephanie Meyer FGJ

I've read the first book and Bella is entirely ridiculous and unlikeable. And I still maintain their relationship is abusive under the "zomg romance!" veil, so your analogy to a woman who stays with a wifebeater isn't far off.

I kinda disagree with Hito that she dislikes people because they're unattractive. She just seems to dislike people in general. Although, we never really get what draws her so strongly to Edward outside of his beauty. It's what she goes on and on about. So I dunno. I guess it was supposed to come across as true love, but to me it just comes across as raging teenage hormones.

I have. It's not exactly the greatest book I've ever read.

But I have to admit it isn't the worst either. Oh yes, I have read worse.

Atlas Shrugged is probably worse than Twilight. Apart from that I can't really think of much.

Seraphim by Michelle Hauf comes to mind. It seemed so cool at first then it spiraled down into a deep pit of total CRAP. That book became so bad that I was actually mad.
