I really hope they do that remake soon, or Cloud's VA will have to voice Hojo :monster:

"Yes, maybe it's the the gift of Square Enix and the major Character Designer of Final Fantasy Series (VII - Compilation Of FF VII, VIII, X and XIII's), Tetsuya Nomura.

In a interview printed yesterday in the japanese Magazine Gamega, he respond to the journalist "If 2010, will the year for the announcement of the game of his dream ?"

"I can just say, that indeed, whereas I'm still working on Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Agito XIII and a little later on The 3rd Birthday (this year), we will announce other games this year and which one is terribly waited from everyone and often "REQUESTED" by fans and even of the press crew that I meet All over the World."

KH III, no sure, A game Very waited by fans could be a Kingdom Hearts game, but by the press, it's just NO.
The only possibility is a FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE, so Kawazu (Crystal Chronicles/ Ivalice Alliance / SaGa) wasn't kidding us. A FF VII Remake Annoucement is it in preparation for NEXT E3 or TGS 2010 ?"

Source
That source is via gametrailers though, so take it with a grain of salt. If it's true, it sounds pretty obvious. But it sounds so obvious that it makes me doubt it...

I just think it's weird that they would skip remakes for two ff games (V & VI) just for remake VII.

Up until now, they've been remaking their games in chronological order.

They haven't really remade them though. Not to the scale it would require to remake FFVII anyway. And again, VII has been demanded and screamed for (SE were even "oh"ed when a special announcement wasn't a VII remake) while V and VI not so much.

That PS3 technical demo trailer certainly hasn't helped.

$5 says it wont be a remake.

I'd be disappointed if it was. From what I recall of a recent press conference (or whatever you call 'em), this new game wasn't going to be anything new though, which suggests it'll either be a remake or a continuation of a franchise/compilation. Lol, FFX-3.

Okay I'm getting anxious now because it does sound like we're getting a remake. I can't imagine what else it could be and now that it seems so possible, I'm can't help but be a little excited

That seems to be the text from that interview, although nothing that seems to match that quote.
Anything about an anticipated game or anything?

I'd be disappointed if it was.
Wherefore?

I understand the arguments for a remake (to update it to all the retcons made in the compilation etc), but unless they dramatically change game play and do a whole bunch of other stuff different than the original, there is no point me buying it for upgraded graphics and a few tweaks to storyline alone. We didn't fall in love with FFVII for graphics after all =P. I can alway watch the new FMV cutscenes on youtube or something anyway.

I would rather they spend their time making an FFVII concluding sequel, or KHIII. That would at least show me that SE has a bit of creativity left in it. Sorry about the awful pessimism, but yeah.

This pretty much always has been my argument. I posted this on another forum:

I think a lot of FFVII's love comes from the fact that it was the first 3D Final Fantasy and there's a lot of nostalgia attached. It was very impressive for it's time, but a remake wouldn't be the same game and it wouldn't give you the same feeling as the first time you played the game. It's something I've learned with the recent Sonic games. One of the reasons I love the older games so much is the feeling attached to them, and that's not something you can get with a remake.

It's nice to see people who think the same way I do ^_^
But since it really does seem like we're getting one, I can't help but look forward to it a little.

That's fine but it's not down to SE proving to the dedicated fans that they still have some creativity left, it's about giving consumers what they want so they can make a lot of money in the process. Way more people are hyped about a remake than a conclusion to the story. I don't think a lot of these people running around spreading the news right now even care if Dirge of Cerberus exists. They want the original.

The original games are always better anyway in my opinion. As much as I love Crisis Core.

Creativity dies when companies make things for money and/or fans, rather than taking risks and try to make new fans with something different (mind you, if that's what they were trying with FFXIII, they failed miserably, at least with me :P). I'm doing SE a favour here by suggesting they try something new.

I heard that he's gonna give a secret ending again to Birth By sleep. For the main proper game for KH 3. He says its gonna be in The Main line and not a spin-off/sidestory/gaiden/etc etc.

Well we probably have that answer to 1 game. what could be the other?

So I'm thinking they'll announce this at E3 (in June) or at the Tokyo Game show. What do you guys think? Do they ever announce stuff at PAX? That's March 26 to March 28, 2010

Just trying to get a time line because, as I said, I'm actually starting to feel anxious :monster:

Yeah, who needs for the Compilation to finally wrap itself up and conclude its story?

Just leave it on a cliffhanger for a decade. So then when it starts back up everyone will be too old to care and won't know what's going on.

They said they won't end the Compilation until 2017, Mako, so whether that means we get the remake or the finale first -- it still won't be done until 2017.

Fact of life. Deal with. :monster:

Hey lots of great shows ended on a cliffhanger and were forever remembered because of it. Alf, Sonic the Hedgehog.... some others I don't know.

"Twin Peaks" immediately comes to mind.

Yeah, cause that's the hallmark of good storytelling. Leaving your shit unresolved.

Depending on the theme of the narrative, it can be. When the TV series "Angel" ended on a cliffhanger with the phrase "Let's go to work" -- it was perfect.

It encapsulated the theme exactly as it should have:
there were big battles that episode, villains died, heroes died, and -- as an army bore down on Angel and his thus-far surviving friends -- they kept fighting.

Also -- and it may be too easy of a point to make -- but remember that game, Final Fantasy VII? :monster:

Ho snap, someone just won the thread.

also while we're talking about things that end on cliffhangers, every single Goosebumps book... loved those books growing up but damn that'd drive me crazy.

Creativity dies when companies make things for money and/or fans, rather than taking risks and try to make new fans with something different...

They will make thousands of new fans by re-releasing one of the most famous and best-selling video games of all time on a modern console. Everyone knows of FFVII who's bought at least a few games in their lives.

Interesting stuff, though it wouldn't be the first time they got fans' hopes up only to dash them. I personally would prefer a sequel to a remake, but from a business standpoint I can see where it'd make sense to get a new generation hooked on the first game before releasing the second.

In SE's case I actually don't want them to make anything new for a good long while, given the fact that almost every single thing SE has released in the last 5 years has been limp dicked as fuck. They need to just take the entire staff and submit them to hypnotherapy to have them use the same method of making shit that they did about 10-15 years ago. Viva la 1995-2000.

I think the best thing that could happen to SE, if I haven't made it clear already, is to sack Tetsuya Nomura. Bring in a fresh fantasy-type artist. Hell, with each and every game, they should give a different artist the chance to direct.
