The Dark Knight Rises

As far as I can remember, out of five of the Christopher Nolan movies I've seen, the man has only cast one non-white leading character, and even Yusuf from Inception had a strong British accent :oscar:

How about Morgan Freeman?

WHOA! Ledger was a fucking fantastic actor! One look at his filmography should have prevented you from ever doubting his talent prior to Dark Knight's debut. The man was legend.

The only film I've ever seen Ledger in was Dark Knight, before seeing DK he was just that guy from the gay cowboy film. Which was why I questioned his casting prior to seeing DK. He was a complete unknown to me.

He's great as Lucius Fox IMO :P

You didn't like Maggie in Dark Knight, Dacon? Her portrayal was at least convincing to me. That's all I cared about. That is unless in the comics, the character she played looked totally different or whatever, but from a movie point-of-view, I think she held her own.

Rachel Dawes was just... a not good character in general. Maggie Gyllenhaal is a really fine actress though. That role was really beneath her imo.

Hardy as Bane was expected. As soon as I heard he'd been cast I knew Bane would be the villain.

Hathaway as Catwoman though... well, we shall see.

For anyone who wonders about Hathaway as Catwoman... Nolan creates slightly new versions of ald heroes in these films, while maintaining some of their original aspects. I think we all know this. Nolan's Batman universe is... real, for lack of a better term. I could easily see these characters existing in our world, while the original Batman characters (comics or series)... not. It's propable that Catwoman's image will have a new aspect, one that fits into this universe, one we haven't seen before. So, maybe Nolan casted Hathaway beause he believes she fits this new aspect he created in Catwoman.

Or maybe Anne Hathaway is an actress capable of taking the sick taste of Halle Berry's rendition out of our minds.

The actor choices worry me, but whatever. Nolan makes good movies, even if not all of them are great (Yes, I'm looking at you Batman Begins).
I'm glad Bane was picked as the villain so he could probably redeem his character in movie-goers eye after schumacher broke him. And I'm not THAT upset about Tom Hardy being Bane. My only problems with him are his looks/size and ethnicity. If you've seen Bronson you'll know why Im not worried.
Hathaway... ehh, shit choice. I've never seen her pull off Selenas character before. Granted I havent seen her in a whole lot. Probably the closest I've seen her play was in Get Smart, but from her filmography shes a crap choice.

Really? Everyone I know seems to gush on about how Nolan always eats ideas and shits out Oscars.

I only knew ledgerman through A Knight's tale, when I was a young boy and Lords of Dogtown. Then that movie brokeback mountain brought me to question his creds when he was casted as Jokerman.

But Tom Hardy's perfect for Bane. LOOK AT BRONSON

Lol no he doesn't. No, his Batman universe is not "real", people just like to pretend it is. Plenty of the shit in his films just doesn't work in real life.

I agree with Interslicery.

I think that Tea-chan specificed "real, for lack of a better term" just because of that. I believe it's the exclusion of more comic book-ish elements, like you wouldn't expect Man-bat or KillerCroc in Nolan's Batman verse. It also takes place in something closer to a normal city version of Gotham, compared to the other Batman films that operate on a more loosely-based comic book structure of the city. Plus, it's made more as an action/drama film than the typical superhero films, because there are no super-powers. Overall his Batman films operate more closely to reality in those aspects, and that's why people use the term when referring to it. It still uses all sorts of fantastic technology and other things.

That's what makes me a little more curious about how they're going to work with Bane's portrayl in this film.

None of that makes it any less fantastical.

It's more realistic, but it's not "real".

Eames will simply be given either 'roids or go for Bronson training to look like a decent Nolan-verse bane. I don't believe he'll be fluctuating in body structure like the comic book's version of Bane. I still wonder if he'll be using his british accent or practice for a mexican-esque accent. : D

I was hoping they'd skip Catwoman. Been there, done that. I know you could say the same for the Joker, but I wouldn't compare the two.

In Nolan, we trust... I guess?

This is the word I was going for. :monster: You're right, this IS fantastical (weirdo who dresses as a giant bat and no one calls the doctors with the white coats, riiiiiiiiiight...), but it's far more realistic.

Oh I'm sorry I didn't see you change your answer on a less significant post lol

That's because you were in too much of a hurry to prove me wrong. Or maybe its why I saw it fitting to make a joke about you not being able to read, idk.

You didn't give much thought before making that post. I didn't give much thought on your thinking. I guess we're even.
