Or be a jerk to both of them and have a big guy with a gun arm force him on a date. You are right though, disc one you shouldn't be aware of Tifa and Cloud's feelings. It's suppose to be a plot twist along with the rest of Cloud's real identity.

That's kind of what I was referring to, but oh well.

By the way, HitoBito, have you ever gotten hold of the original Prologue book for AC? I've been rereading the character profiles from the sight, and they say some interesting things, but I have no prime source to compare them too.

I do, it's sitting on a shelf upstairs. Which profiles do you mean in particular?

Well, Clout and Tifa's in particular, but Denzel's short one had an interesting note in it too.

The parts I'm really curious about are the parts describing Cloud's childhood, especially the part that the onehost site has as 'As a small boy, he didn't get along with others apart from Tifa. '

That, and the part of Tifa's profile translated as 'To Tifa, Cloud is the only one through which she can get in touch with her past. He is her ideal love and his existence is also like a prince who promised to come to her rescue when she is in trouble.'

But yeah, At your leisure, man.

Ummmmmmmm, since when does Tifa seeing Cloud like a prince indicate true love? Bodyguard Cloud > prince Cloud, tbch. At least Cloud can do his job as that.

Cloud asked Tifa out and they made a promise that he`ll be her knight in shining armor, yano.
And this promise is linked through entire compilation (sign of their love & devotion =D)

That doesn't seem to be in his Prologue profile. It doesn't really mention anything about his childhood.

That isn't in the Prologue either, but rather the Ultimania Omega. I would have call it 'object of [her] love' rather than 'ideal love', though.

And not to use 'existence', it always sounds awkward to me when people directly translate 'sonzai' like that

Well lets see...

Before Crisis

A Promise to Tifa, Etched in his Memory.
When Cloud left the village dreaming of being a SOLDIER, he swore to Tifa that he would come running to her rescue if she was in trouble. While it was Tifa who strong-armed him into making the promise, it seems that the idea that he must keep this vow was forever in Cloud’s mind. In BC he is obsessive about protecting people, and if he runs out of strength part way though he will mention the “promise.”
If he runs out of strength part way through the story, he will say regretfully that he “couldn’t come through on my promise to her.”

I mean at the very least he could have brought one of Tifa's belongings to remember her scent by, but instead he's got Aerith's ribbon tied around his arm. It's rather curious.

Some of them seem to be, but then it includes other sources. Most of it seems to match the UO, but others I can't seem to find in the UO. The stuff about Tifa being the only one close to especially. Cloud's UO profile says that he had no one he was close to, and Tifa's says that she and Cloud weren't close.
