Well the word destined always reminded me more of Aerith, than Tifa because of the word "meet" associated with Clerith...or maybe it's because of Destiny Fufilled. Anyways I think Aerith was the perfect match for Cloud and his soulmate, especially in the commercial where it says "the love that could never be" seems to put a strong impact on the relationship.
So desitiny led Cloud to Aerith, but if we are picking the logical choice it would be Tifa.

Ehh. I wouldnt trust a North american commercial if I were you. That commercial I believe wasn't aired in Japan, since FF7 wasn't a love story, and love wasn't really even a huge element in it. Misconception on the marketing of the westerners. It wouldnt have been the first time it's happened.

The '3' commercial shows mog interviewing monsters and being responsible for being in the game. The 6 commercial showed Tina, in magitech, appearing in Tokyo. The IV commercials showed an ostrich running across a beach.
Marketing is not inherently trustworthy.
Yes, but destiny also led Cloud to fight Sephiroth. The real question is choice, and the choice Cloud made was Tifa.

Das what I said, you! I said the word love appears on teh screen, but the narrator is the one who calls VII a story about "a love that could nebur ebur be".
Which always makes me laugh a lot(aside from the obvious inaccuracy), because I see Queen Brahne in my head, for some reason, when she's crying over Princess Cornelia's death in I Want To Be Your Canary:

What's really depressing how they use that as proof is the fact that in the part where Sephiroth shows up, it says, "A hatred that always was." And yet, Cloud respected and looked up to Sephiroth when he was a young kid. One would think that the creators of the game would know their creations. Clearly the creators can't be the ones in charge of advertising the came, because that's not their job. They're not in charge of promoting the movie. Actors are in charge of acting in a movie, and that's their only job. They're not in charge of advertising the movie, as are the producers and directors of the movie. It's a completely different area where should be disregarded for the staff to not work as part of the advertising staff.
And every Final Fantasy fan would know that Cloud always hating Sephiroth is totally teh truth. As is Cloud loving Aerith.

Square's love triangle was an important sub-plot to begin with, why would the squash it within seconds in a commerical? Which, was only aired in the Americas/Europe, I believe.

Okay getting serious for a moment, I think that the Cloud hating Sephiroth part comes from the Nibelheim moment... And it's not JUST Cloud, it's Tifa too. 'I HAET SOLDIER, MAKO REACTORS, SEPHIROTH!!!1111ON1"
