Dude even I'm surprised. And hear i always thought that she had. I could have sworn that I read somewhere that she did heal them. Unless I misread it. :/
Sometimes I think Nomura does things just to see what the fandom does.
Also, what do you mean two words? Koi is a type of Japanese fish and bito means person... so... what? Was she a fish person to Cloud?
... I'm gonna have my Cloud in Sims 3 buy a goldfish and name her Tifa.
Oh and
Oh I don't know. Tifa being called someones lover/girlfriend by the creators is pretty damn strong IMO.
Some would have you believe that Tifa is Barret's lover!! Or at least that it's more likely that Barret is her lover than Cloud... I kid you not, such people exist. Another side to the love polyhedron.

Though Barret has shown no interest in chasing Tifa, and Tifa's shown none to him. But since she is a prominent female figure in Marlene's young life, they are clearly married/shaking up/doing something that doesn't involve Cloud in any way and leaves him free to persue Aerith.
I'd like to add that I asked my Japanese teacher about koibito the other day and her immediate reply was "boyfriend/girlfriend, a lover". She even went on to warn me never to use it to refer to my own 'koibito' because it would make all the Japanese people in the room get a little shocked. I went on to repeat the sentence in question and she said the girl (I left out that this was a quote in reference to a video game character) is a girlfriend, mother, ally etc.
I also don't see why it's debatable that Cloud is who she is a girlfriend to when it's completely understood who she is a mother to (Denzel and Marlene) and an ally to (Avalanche and the rest).
I'd like to reiterate Mako's good point that Aerith is calling Cloud her boyfriend from her limited perspective whereas Tifa was stated to be a girlfriend by a creator out of the game's universe.
LMAO @ the times the name of this thread has been changed.
Seriuously, though, I really don't care about the LT, but with the Compilation, Ultimanias and such, it became obvious (at least for me) that:
Tifa is meant for Cloud
Aerith is meant for Zack
Aerith might had a cruch on Cloud, but i guess she now views him as a friend she wants to protect and watch for, the same way Zack wanted to protect Cloud when returning to Midgar.
Of course she might had some strong feelings for him, but now that belongs to the past, and due to Aerith's playful nature, i wouldn't be surprised if she was fooling around when she called Cloud her koibito, in a sense that she doesn't see him as a love interest, but more as a friend she wants to protect.
Like Raquelborn said, Koibito can have a more maternal meaning, wich i think it was in this sense that Aerith called Cloud her Koibito.
Anyway...
...this thread is full of lies! Lies, I tell you!
The real FFVII pairing is CloudxZack!
Cloud is only living with Tifa because she reminds him of Zack!

Sorry, but I can't see koibito having a maternal meaning. If my mother called me her koibito, I think every Japanese person in the world would be going "WTF?" Koibito means lover or girlfriend/boyfriend. If Aerith sees Cloud as her boyfriend, she can go right on thinking that. Unless you meant something else with that last sentence?
Raquelborne quoted the whole citation which included 'mother' and 'ally', but koibito was translated as girlfriend by the teacher
Also, I think that because CoWL is right after FF7, Aerith's feelings are true - this is how she sees Cloud. But the way the creators made her leave in AC/C [ACC especially] leads to believe that either she got over them to return with Zack [and melt into the Lifestream, hopefully, as it'd mean that she's free, at least] or that she loves both men, but since 1. she's dead and Cloud's alive and 2. Cloud made a pretty damn choice a long time ago, she can be simply happy for him [and leave with Zack to dissolve in the Lifestream ].
It's not directly romantic, but the points of the scene are A: Cloud has failed Tifa, causing a flare up, and one in which he slightly cries and B: Cloud and Tifa are in this together. Even as Cloud has been lonewolfing it up, he's been doing it inexorably linked to and for Tifa and his family.
But the creators/staff wrote CoL, so they obviously input that word there themselves.
This is the main thing I don't get about the koibito thing. The argument is that she refers to Cloud as her koibito and its not the creators saying it... but the creators WROTE CoL did they not? So they obviously out it there for a reason.

The point is that CoLW is written from Aerith's point of view so it's Aerith's thoughts and feelings that we are reading. Her opinion and feeling is that Cloud is her lover.
Then we have it stated from a 3rd person, out of universe perspective that Tifa is a lover. This makes it an undisputable fact that Tifa is a lover to someone. Since Tifa can only be a girlfriend to one person, it becomes a fact that she is Cloud's lover, it couldn't possibly be anyone else.
Aerith calling Cloud her lover serves to show us that Aerith does indeed love Cloud romantically and sees him in that way. However Nomura stating that Tifa is a girlfriend serves to tell us exactly what Tifa is.

Lol, well if you find it, that'd be nice to see. That would be a much bigger contrast than the quote Seto gave. It kind of surprised me too, I mean... Aerith healing them does make sense.
Or at least that it's more likely that Barret is her lover than Cloud... I kid you not, such people exist.
Some of those people also think that Tifa is a lover to Johnny, Rude, or any of her other childhood friends. Tifa was mentioned as a Koibito to some-one.. Ooo, that's a toughie... it must be...

They also had Cloud call himself Ex-SOLDIER for a reason.
But technically, it wasn't Aerith who called Cloud her lover, just as it wasn't Sephiroth who ranted about Cloud and made Shinentai. It was woman and man respectively. The story is opaque to their identities, but contains clues to their identity. 'He was her lover/beloved/monkey polisher' is one of those clues.

Euuhh.. It is Aerith's thoughts and feelings. She think Cloud as her koibito.
But as Nomura said about Tifa: She is a girlfriend/sweetheart, mother, ally in battle.
And he also says that she is a koibito to someone, who I guess is Cloud Aerith.
I accept that Aerith views/viewed Cloud as a koibito, but that doesn't stop me from feeling somewhat irksome everytime I think about it. I also know it doesn't say she loves him 'more' than Zack, but that doesn't stop me from being somewhat 'bad' towards the later.
He deserves better for all he did.
Or maybe I'm just being a biased baby eating bitch.
