Perhaps he just hasn't grown into his Dwarven-ness yet. :awesomonster:

I think he's a little bit like a teenage Dwarf, since his facial features still seem really young, and he seems to barely have a 5 o'clock shadow. I'm hoping that there are beard jokes because of this.

Also - he has a bow, which means that he's these films' Legolas-type character for the ladies.... until Legolas shows up. :awesome:

While most of the Company of Thorin Oakensheild is related to the royal and noble line of Durin, Bofur, his brother Bombur and their cousin Bifur most definitely are … not. Born and bred in the West, descendants of coal miners and iron workers, they have joined the Quest for the Lonely Mountain partly to seek their fortune and partly because they were told the beer was free.

Dwarf Lords in their own right, Balin and Dwalin are close relatives of Thorin. Beyond this, these brothers are two of his most loyal and trusted friends.

An old warrior, Balin has lived through hard times and fought many battles, yet he harbors doubts about the wisdom of the Quest to retake the Lonely Mountain.

Dwalin has no such forebodings – his belief in Thorin’s leadership is unshakeable. A powerful and bruising fighter, with a natural tendency to distrust anyone who is not a Dwarf, particularly anyone who might be an Elf, Dwalin is not someone to cross lightly.

Actually, Fili looks as a chibi version of how I imagined Bard the Bowman to look like while I read the book: Dark, long hair, short beard and with that unkempt hotness that some ladies find so attractive. I do :awesome:

Being totally unfamiliar with the story of the Hobbit, do these dwarves have similar names because of some naming convention within families, or is it just poor imagination on behalf of the author? =p. Also, I hope each character has enough screen time and they have unique characters n' stuff. I think the movie will be awesome just based on that, if done right.

You do realize

you're talking about

JRR Tolkien

Note to self: Do not criticise JRR Tolkien for any perceived flaws in his revolutionary imagination. He is perfect and god-like after all.

I take your answer is the family naming convention? I know he took the names from german mythology, but I want to know why the groups are named the way they are.

As a young Dwarf prince, Thorin witnessed the destruction and terror wrought when a great fire-breathing Dragon attacked the Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. After slaughtering many of Thorin’s kin, the great serpent, Smaug, entered The Lonely Mountain and took possession of its vast store of gold and jewels. No-one came to the aid of the surviving Dwarves, and thus, a once proud and noble race was forced into exile. Through long years of hardship, Thorin grew to be a strong and fearless fighter and revered leader. In his heart a fierce desire grew; a desire to reclaim his homeland and destroy the beast that had brought such misery upon his people. So when fate offers him an unusual ally, he seizes the chance for revenge.

TOR also has a bigger dwarf compilation image.

If you're referring to the image, it's likely because production photos are typically photoshopped because they're released in magazines and such. If you watch the video that it absolutely bursting at the seams with all of them, you'll see they all look just like that in costume.

Honestly, after that production video, each of them managed to portray so much character, I'm a little giddy every time I see them. (I particularly enjoyed seeing them meeting John Rhys-Davies). I'm in the process of trying to memorize who's who and this image is going to help a lot.

Look at 'em dwarves going at them evil guys with giant punching bags and motorcycle helmets, :monster:. So heroic! So epic!

Seriously, they should release an alternate version without any CGI / post-processing. For the win.

FFFFFF-- wow.

I never considered 3D to be something groundbraking. But, with the intensity these people are working on it, I might go watch a 3D film for the first time.

It isn't.

And while I appreciate the effort they put into 3D filmmaking, it just doesn't add anything to the experience. It's interesting the first time around but...nothing you'd want for every movie. At least that's how I feel.

I hope there'll be a 2D version shown in cinemas here.
