@Tets/Yop: Also the EEs do a lot to make the combat scenes more fluid, not to mention that as a cohesive interconnecting story, they do a lot of really cool things that make reference to one another. So yes -- eagerly awaiting it. :monster:

@Clement Rage: Well yeah that was a thing, but if you watch specifically just the way that the Elves vs. Dwarves stories are presented in the Theatrical vs. EE, you can see a big difference to show to the average audience that one side was supposed to be the side you're rooting for.

Well, since you're following the Dwarves' company, it makes sense that the theatrical version would try and show them in a better light than the elves, even though I think those who keep up with everything in the movies can tell it's not quite one-sided.
I haven't seen any of the EE's yet, so I'm really REALLY waiting for a box set of the EE's of them all, then I can finally watch them and own the movies. :monster:

I'm just pissed off that my Blu-Ray LOTR box set still has each movie split into two. I already owned the same set on DVD so I was pissed.

Is the Battle of the Five Armies extended cut out yet? I don't want to watch the EE's of Hobbit 1 and 2 until that's available. I might just have to put LOTR on in the background over the next couple of days.

^the EE Battle of the Five Armies is out in Novemble IIRC. Also the EE's of the first two films are split over two discs too. Which is kind of annoying.

The 2D EE version of the first one is just one disc (dunno about the other because I don't have it). :monster:

But yeah, Blu-rays have their limits too. The movies are fucking long after all.

I'm just going to wander in here and say I only got around to seeing the Desolation of Smaug last week. I loved it to bits, just as I loved the first one (which I watched a week and a half ago, but the first and only time I had seen it beforehand was over a year ago, where I was only excited around the time to get to see the second one - I honestly don't know what kept me - I've had the extended version of the second movie since Christmas last year).

Looking forward to seeing the last one now, and pretending like I'm not so late to the party.

Here's the behind the scenes scene where the people involved in making the trilogy talk about the problems they had with making the films.

I'm really sad that this is how it turned out. It would have been so much better if they had given Peter Jackson more time to plan all the things well. Of course postponing the films another three years would have probably been unthinkable for the studios and the producers but 3 months is ridiculously short time to do all the preparations for shooting a trilogy like this. And I can't imagine what it is like to work 21 hours a day. It must be torture.

I'm just thankful that for whatever the films had or lacked - I enjoyed them despite their flaws - that Christopher Lee got to be a big part of them before he passed, because I can't even imagine them without him on the White Council. I think that, if anything, this speaks to Peter Jackson absolutely kicking ass at what he does -- even under huge pressure without that prep.

I may not like the Hobbit trilogy as much as the LotR trilogy, but you know, I had a blast being able to visit Middle Earth again. I missed it so much, I thought I'd never see a new place in that world again, and yet out of nowhere and nohow it became a reality, and I was able to see it again and visit new places and 'Go on an adventure!" like Bilbo would say.
Also, I personally feel that the first Hobbit movie is right on par with the LotR movies, if not a bit more comedic, but it was fantastic to me. An hour with the dwarves in Bag End? Perfect. <3

I've never seen any of the Extended Editions yet for the Hobbit trilogy, so I'm excited to be able to watch all three extended versions of the movies in a row.

I actually have to agree about the quality of the first Hobbit movie. I'm still impressed with it, and it still feels like it belongs with the LotR trilogy. Maybe even more than "The Two Towers" did!

Even "The Desolation of Smaug" was pretty damn good despite ending on an awful anti-climax.

The third movie was just terrible, though.
