Do you really think that the height difference between Cloud and Sephiroth is that extreme?

I thought they picked heights based on the average Japanese person. That is, Cloud's height at 5'7" being pretty normal while Sephiroth is still considered quite tall.

So Zack, Angeal, and Genesis also being so tall kind of surprises me.

Now that you said something about it, yeah that is sort of odd. Normally your heros are taller than an adverage peep.

Poor Cloud. He's so short ;D Well, at least in comparison to most of the male FFVII cast, especially Angeal, Genesis, and Sephiroth.

It make me wonder, though, if heights will ever be revised. Tifa and Aerith are both 5"4, but just by body structure in AC, Tifa just doesn't look it at all. At least Sephiroth's is unknown...Though we can get an average just by comparing him with Zack.

I like that Cloud is a shorty. Makes him more of an "everyman."

I always thought Aeris was 5'3, Yuffie 5'2, Tifa 5'4. Unfortunately, some asshole misplaced both copies of my game and I don't have the manual handy on me right now.

However, on finalfantasy.wikia.com, Tifa's height is listed as 5'4" / 167cm, but Aeris is listed as 5'4" / 164cm. Now if they were 1cm apart I could see it being estimated to the same inch, but I know 3cm is more than a 1" difference.

In fact, according to this nifty metric converter, 164cm (Aeris) is 64.5669" (about 5'4 and a half), and 167cm (Tifa) is 65.748" (closer to 5'6 than 5'5). So, are these metric heights listed on finalfantasy.wikia accurate of their Japanese profiles or was whoever listed them on crack?

But more importantly, in relation to Sephiroth, I noticed this this morning:

Crisis Core Ultimania said:
Age: Around 25
Weapon: Rapier
Hometown: Banora Village
Voice Actor: Gackt Camui
Crisis Core Ultimania Scenario Q&A said:
Q2-1: What is the time difference between the start of Jenova Project S and Jenova Project G? And out of Genesis, Sephiroth and Angeal, is Genesis the eldest?

A2-1: Project S and Project G began at roughly the same time. They were lead by Hojo and Hollander respectively, and the department head Gast has little participation in either project.

The order of their births goes Angeal & Genesis > Sephiroth, but it’s fine to think of them as being around the same age. Angeal and Genesis were created at roughly the same time, and were deemed as failed projects when they were babies. Project S took the results from Project G and added further improvements, so Sephiroth’s birth was later than Angeal and Genesis’.
source: http://thelifestream.net/tag/crisis-core-ultimania/

Now given that this is Sephiroth's fanclub—and no I have not read the other 10 pages to see if it's already been discussed—I certainly hope others here have scratched their heads in regard to his age. Before the "compilation," it was popularly assumed/calculated that he was roughly 30 years old at the time of FF7, deduced mostly from the statement of an NPC in Cosmo Canyon who says that Professor Gast discovered Jenova about 30 years ago. Furthermore, the age of 30 would have made him:

- 6 when Gast vanished from ShinRa (old enough to remember the man)
- 8 when Aeris was born
- 15 around the beginning(??) of the war with Wutai (when Elmyra's husband died and Ifalna was killed)
- 23 when Cloud idolized him and left to join SOLDIER (flashback "7 years ago")
- 25 at Nibelheim (5 years ago)

...which all jives rather nicely.

Then, the compilation and new data came along and royally fucked all of this up, implying that Sephiroth was about 25 or even 23 in FF7. 25 would make him only 1 when Gast left ShinRa (too young to have any memories of him), 10 when ShinRa started fighting Wutai, only 18 when he was already idolized as a famous war hero, and only 20 in CC. 23 would mean Gast left ShinRa before Sephiroth was even born, and that he was only 18 in CC. These numbers mostly come from data regarding Vincent, which says or implies that Vincent is only about 50 as of FF7 (rather than 57 as we believed before), and that he only slept for 23 years rather than 30.

However, if Genesis is "around 25" during Crisis Core (and this is his Crisis Core age, because Tifa's profile lists her as 15— 5 years younger than her FF7 age), and the very same book says that Sephiroth is only a little bit younger than him (probably a year or so, as it seems that Genesis and Angeal were deemed project failures as infants and the procedures were modified and Sephiroth conceived only a short time thereafter), then is it not still believable that Sephiroth was also "around 25" during Crisis Core and not FF7?

It could be possible, though illogical, that Vincent hung around in stasis for about 5-7 years before he stopped aging and went to sleep. That would, at least, seem to be what is being implied here by the math. The other possibility is that Vincent's death (and consequently Lucrecia's disappearance shortly thereafter) did not occur until Sephiroth was already a few years old, which makes even less sense because that would have given Lucrecia a lot more time to make herself a presence in Sephiroth's life.

But given that this is more about Sephiroth's age than Vincent's, I thought it might be more appropriate and interesting to dicsuss it here, and I wanted to get the opinions of Sephiroth's fans on the matter, since I've already attempted to discuss it with Vincent's.

Well, my belief is that Sephiroth was around 27 in FFVII and 29 in AC.

I'm based in the fact that it was stated that Sephiroth, Angeal and Genesis were born around 20 years before Crisis Core, and CC begins 7 years before FFVII.

So, that would put Sephiroth at age 22 by the time the Nibhelheim Incident occured and at age 27 at the beginning of FFVII.

Something also worthy of mention is that, in Sephiroth's profiles in both Ultimania Omega and in the 10th Anniversary Ultimania, it was stated that he was born 25 to 30 years before FFVII.

When people talk about his age, I think they are refering to how many years he is there, existing and doing stuff.

Yes, it's not a count of age so much as a count of how many years ago he was born, especially in Sephiroth's case, since it could be argued even more that he is no longer "existing." Vincent is still having life experiences and whatnot, so I think it's fairer to want to keep counting his "current" age. For Sephiroth, we just want to know what ages he was at particular points in the story, and how long ago his birth occurred.

27 is a fair compromise between 25 and 30, and I have speculated that he could have been around 27-28, but it still seems very odd for the boys to only be 20 in CC, and did it really begin 7 years before FF7 or 5? Nibelheim was definitely 5. Did 2 years lapse before that?

It also still seems very odd for 4 years to lapse between Vincent's death and when he went to sleep if he really did sleep for only 23 years. And, Sephiroth would have been only 3 when Gast left if he was 27 in FF7, which is a bit young to remember and formulate an opinion about him.

Maybe Sephiroth developed his intellect far more quickly than a normal child.

He seems to have developed his strength at a very young age (Genesis, when he was a kid in Banora, already admired Sephiroth for his strength in several battles), so it's not farfetched to imply that his mind would develop at the same rate.

Heylo! Can I join? Even though Cloud became my top favorite, I'm still an ongoing fan of Sephiroth! Also, I have to agree with whoever said that Sephiroth seems alot older than he looks, in other words, he sounds alot more mature when he speaks. I always thought he was around 30ish in AC if he hadn't died. For some reason he just seems to come off 30ish to me in AC XD.

Also, reasons I like Sephiroth is cuz well, he's just so mysterious in his motives and i love how complex his mind seems to be. I happen to think he's one of the best villains I've ever known cuz he's subtle yet very intimidating when it comes to what he wants to do. I heard somewhere he would be considered 'neutral evil' on a Dungeons & Dragons scale, which for D&D is the most dangerous type of evil. I believe his intelligence and way of motif is what makes him dangerous, as he is not wreckless or chaotic but takes things accordingly and only does what needs to be done for his plans. He is an excellent example of composure as he often keeps a straight face 95% of the time, cept for those times where he actually gets caught off-guard by Cloud XD. It was really nice to see him being human in Crisis Core and when that Nibelheim Incident came, I just wanted to fuckin shoot Genesis in the face and shove that damn apple down his throat, God-forbid he would actually eat it. I was so sad to see Sephy get so upset and confused when Genesis did that to him :(. Anyway, enough ranting XD. I personally think his appearance (silver hair, stature, eyes face, etc.) actually give his character interesting edge because, as my mom said, he looks so very angelic and beautiful and yet, he's the villain of the story and the world's greatest enemy. Don't ya just love contrast? LOL! Well, sign me up cuz I'm here! XD.

I believe that Sephiroth's sign is one of the so-called negative signs (Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricornius and Pisces).

These signs constitute the earth and water triplicities. They are termed "negative" because they are supposed to be naturally less communicative, more receptive and more sensitive than the fire and air triplicities, known collectively as the positive signs. They prefer to draw upon personal resources to achieve their lives' goals and tend to be reserved, cautious and often retiring - in extreme cases standoffish. They may match the introvert personality. They are sometimes termed "past-oriented" because it is supposed negative signs will focus on the past and be more resistant to change than positive signs.

^This seems to be the case of Sephiroth, at least before Nibelheim.

I'll have to do a bit more research to find wich one suits Sephiroth the best, but i think he's one of the aforementioned signs.

But we have to take in consideration that the hour of birth is also very important, because of the positioning of the celestial bodies and ascendants.

A person born in a certain day at a certain hour will be different (personality-wise) than a person born the same day but at a different hour.

While these two persons share the same zodiac sign and such, they could end up with completely opposite personalities.

Hmmm, let's see what they're like (looking up on a website since I don't know most of their meanings):

Aries
The Aries Astrology Sign is the first sign of the Zodiac and concerned with the 'I' and the ego. Aries is the cardinal fire sign, and has all the fiery qualities of impulsiveness and optimism combined with the cardinal tendency to lead and to initiate. Aries Astrology people have a buoyant active energy, negatively, unsophisticated egotism and a tendency to irritability and impatience. A powerful energy.

Taurus
The Taurus Astrological Sign is the fixed earth sign. People born under this astrology sign are steady, patient, reliable and determined. However in common with all earth signs the Taurus Astrology Sign also has a practical creativity, which Taurus gets straight from the source, its ruling planet, Venus the creator. Taurean energy is consistent and long-lasting, like the beating of the heart.

Gemini
Ruled by the planet Mercury, The Gemini Astrology Sign is quick, verbal and intellectual. Gemini's element is air, its quality mutable. People born under Gemini are like the restless wind. They are ethereal and hard to pin down. They are also changeable and inconstant. Gemini Astrology energy is bright and breezy but also superficial and inconsiderate - Mercury the Trickster never let anyone's feelings stop him telling a good joke. A subtle but flighty energy.

Cancer
The Cancer Astrology Sign is the first of the water signs. It is associated with the mysterious Moon. Cancerian energy is emotional, sensitive and giving. Cancer Astrology Sign is also the cardinal water sign, and there can be a good deal of tough self-assertiveness in the Cancerian make-up. Like a Crab these people are hard on the outside but soft in the middle. A profound energy that can be hard to use effectively in day-to-day situations.

Leo
The Leo Astrological Sign is the fixed fire sign. Leo Astrology Sign has qualities that are like its ruler The Sun and has energy that is vibrant, embodying confidence, generosity and a relaxed sense of its rightful place in the scheme of things. The Leo Astrology Sign also has associations with heat including being hot-headed, hot-blooded, and hot-tempered. Leo likes to be the boss. It is a monarchical energy, full of directness that requires self -control for positive expression.

Virgo
Virgoan energy is paradoxical. It is an earth sign which is materialist and full of stability, yet it is also it is mutable. Governed by Mercury people born under this sign have a unique ability to be equally at home with both change and order. The Virgoan influence is calm, rational. Virgo has a perceptive energy that is highly discriminating.

Libra
The Astrological Sign of Libra is the sign of the scales and like its symbol it is always in pursuit of balance. In its ideal state Libran energy is smooth, airy and unemotional - almost invisible. However if the balance is upset by difficult circumstances Librans can swing between emotional extremes. The sign itself stands halfway through the Zodiac, and its first day is the autumnal equinox when night and day are equal. We find balance again in its ruling planet, harmonious Venus, and Libran energy tends to seek good relations with the energy of all other signs.

Scorpio
The astrological sign of Scorpio can be vengeful, intense and unsettling. They are considered to be bad boys and girls! Despite being a water sign, it is also fixed, suggesting stagnant pools and murky depths rather than babbling brooks or rolling oceans. Scorpion energy is about deep truths, penetration of surface and hypocrisy. For this reason it can be an uncomfortable experience.

Sagittarius
With Jupiter as it's ruler, sagittarain energy reflects the benign and regal aspects of that planet, in typical out-going fiery ways. The sagittarius astrology sign is optimistic, confident and positive. It is concerned with wisdom, freedom and exploration. But as with jupiter himself, this easy-going positivity can turn into impreiousness, impatience or recklessness. A bright, futuristic, impractical energy.

Capricorn
Capricorn is a cardinal earth sign. The Capricorn personality reflects qualities with the material world and earthly things. The influence of the planet Saturn can sometimes make the Capricorn personality a little cold and calculating and completely uninterested in what they see as people’s flights of fancy.

Aquarius
People born under the star sign of Aquarius have a personality that reflects the air qualities of idealism, altruism and ability for abstract thought. They are also humanitarians symbolised by the water carries that serves and pours out water for others.

Pisces
This is the mutable water sign. Piscean energy is the most fluid and watery of all. People born under this sign are sensitive, dreamy and mystical. Unlike the two other water energies, Scorpio and Cancer, Pisces energy has no hard shell.

The Piscean emotions are pure and simple. These people go with the flow, giving it an easiness, and oneness with nature. They prefer to follow rather than lead. Piscean energy is unworldly, imaginative and mystical.

Phew! Well there you go. Looking at that I'd think he was a mix of a few lol.

I'm gonna elaborate now on my sort of "theory" for what I think he is. Taking in some of his habits and actions pre-Nibelheim, I'm more settled that he might be a Cancer (and I didn't know Lucrecia was a Cancer O.o). The reason I think this is because, one of my closest internet friends is a Cancer and I learned alot about Cancereans from him and from looking it up (ironically considering that I, myself, have been mistaken for one when I'm a Sagittarius XD). Sephiroth seems to exhibit the "hard on the outside but soft on the inside" part of the Cancer a bit (as kunoichi previously posted above) which pertains to his very intimidating and often overbearing demeanor, though he does not seem to intend it at times. This can also lead to the fact that Cancers do tend to be a bit selective of their friends, also as a means to who they truly decide to open up to as Cancers are often closed off about themselves, rather coming to aid others instead. Sephiroth shows this as well when, after the spar with Genesis went wrong and he got wounded, Sephiroth automatically goes to Genesis' side wanting to be his donor, not a single question asked about it. Though he was turned down because he wasn't "compatible", it's clear on his face that he was obviously hurt by this, feeling as if he couldn't do anything about it. Another Cancer trait I noticed (IMO), is the fact that Sephiroth sent Zack to Banora to go find info or retrieve Genesis and also Angeal, Sephy having refused this mission himself. This comes off to me as him "reclusing into his shell" because he felt overwhelmed at the thought of having to face his 2 friends over the previous problem (i.e. their sudden disappearances and the suspicion that they allied with Hollander). I also happen to think that Sephy probably had a kind heart underneath that hard exterior of his and would help those in need if presented with the situation (he was a true hero at one point). I could be wrong, but I really feel he fits with a Cancer, even if not completely. That's just me though XD. Anyway, thanks for the Signs info, kunoichi! ^_^!
