UNCHARTED 4: A Thief's End

Playing on Hard mode too. I find it tougher than previous games on Hard mode because it seems to me that the enemies are better at getting you surrounded.

About Elena able to find Drake, I was actually waiting for that to happen. There is some precedent, and given Elena's background, I thought is was a matter of "when" and not "if". Now I'm around the same point as you are, and I too don't see this story end well for now.
early on, I thought that all these pirates pooled together to create an independent "free state", and all their money went into this. So, I don't think there will be any treasure left to be found. Which will make the deal with Alcazar go to shit. I'll have yet to see what actually happens though!

Elena's super-human tracking abilities strike again. Good be with her again, though.

Libertalia is definitely less grandiose than the other lost cities we've discovered, but that makes sense, and I respect that they didn't feel the need to constantly ratchet everything up. And I like the exchange it makes for Nate being a bit less enthused about it than Sam, though that's also due to what happened with Elena I know.

I did a lot of stealthing again this chapter. It is still enjoyable and satisfying, though sometimes I wonder if I'd be making faster progress if I just shot up the joint. The escape from the treasury was vintage Uncharted though. The way all the physics combine for falling structures and all will never cease to amaze. And the grapple hooks just add that extra layer to Uncharted 2's hotel collapse. Part of me thought Nadine is a bit TOO badass, but Nate and Sam certainly aren't at the top of their game after everything they've been through over the last 12 hours (in game).

Sucks that Sam lied, though :( I liked the establishment of the "Drake" last name in the flashback. Uncharted 3 implied that Nathan made up the descendant-of-Drake thing entirely, which I didn't love. I like that this throws a little implication back that maybe their mother really did believe they were his descendants. I am, however, still confused as to how exactly all these flashbacks fit in with the Cartagena sequence in 3. Nate was definitely older than he seems in these flashbacks, and alone (and meeting Sully who we're supposed to think took Nate under his wing at that point), but then he's with Sam again (and Rafe) later during the whole prison thing?

Once again with the oh-so human, believable characters, I've enjoyed Nate and Elena's interactions here. It's obvious she's still hurt and displeased, but she's not enraged and willing to help. Also that she's able to express interest in at least the historical significance of the things they're finding. And I liked Nate's line after she makes that huge jump and he chastises himself for upsetting "a girl like that."

And lastly, it was turbo satisfying to be able to sneak around all the dudes and just hop in the Jeep and speed off without having to fight them. And that's where I stopped.

Having Sully and Elena on the island now only increases my fear of the ending, but I'm still loving it.

Also played some multiplayer with my college roommates, pretty fun. Though I'm still as lousy at it as ever.

The thing with that is,
when you finish and go back and read my quote about negatives, this is one of them. It's plausible that Sam was in jail at that point, but it's not believable that Sam was never mentioned in the first 3 games at all. I feel like they went too far with it. I would have believed it if Sam had appeared to die when they were both still kids, but having the whole prison escape sequence with them both as adults is too farfetched IMO. Even though Nate kind of explains it :/

^ Again I agree with Force.
I really like the Nate/Elena duo. Nothing like a bit of adventure to work out your couple issues, eh?
I also appreciated how the whole Libertalia colony went down, without resorting to "supernatural" (at least so far). The Descent was quite creepy.
I'm quite curious about how the end is going to unfold. The treasure seems unimportant at this point, and I wonder if that is going to change.
Regarding Nate and Sam's background, it's true that the Cartagena flashback from Uncharted 3 is a bit clunky in terms of consistency - why would Nate have been alone when he pulled his little heist and met Sully for the first time? But eh, I don't think it's worth nitpicking

This made my whole day, 'cause this is a lot like the sort of stuff that I troubleshoot for in my job now as an Accessibility QA Engineer – just in the SAAS Education space, rather than the video gaming space. It's still really friggin' cool to see it getting a lot more active attention and consideration in all sorts of industries.

Ok, finally finished the game so I just re-read the thread here :)
I (obviously) loved it, especially the ending. It's an awesome conclusion.
I'm also very happy in hindsight that I've made a 2-years media blackout on this game, so I could fully appreciate
like playing Crash Bandicoot, or have that epilogue with Cassie
.
, In particular:
- I love how UC4 has gotten more varied than previous games of the franchise, and how it's paced.
- the game looks amazing, I want to make another playthrough where I'm going to take screenshots like a paparazzi with OCD
- I love the writing of the dialogues, namely Sam/Nate immediately feel like brothers, and Nate/Elena really shows the sort of complicity that you find in long-lasting couples, which is something IMO that is shown very little in general when it comes to romantic relations, while I'd think that's the most interesting thing in them.
- That ending was so great, on so many levels. The idea of Nate telling the stories to Cassie also making me feel like replaying all the games :D
- The only "meh" aspect I have about the game is the consistency issue between Sam's existence and the beginning of UC3 where Nate meets Sully, while there's not mention of a brother, as Lex pointed out first. Thankfully, it's far from spoiling my impressions of the game (unlike UC3 where the wild goose chase to "find Sully" between chapters 12 and 15 feel like it's been shoehorned into a plothole, and I couldn't help feeling annoyed by it).
- Yaaaaayyyyyyyyy
- That's it.

Anyone else know anything about this article?

http://kotaku.com/uncharted-4-director-says-they-had-to-ask-one-sexist-fo-1778198178?utm_campaign=Socialflow_Kotaku_Facebook&utm_source=Kotaku_Facebook&utm_medium=Socialflow

It comes from an interview with Neil Druckmann, where he describes how they had to ask one focus tester to leave the room because he freaked out over the game's portrayal of women.

Evidently women having visible triceps was a big no no with this guy. And Apparently the concept of a woman being able to whoop a man's ass is a concept so completely foreign that his mind couldn't process it.

I pity the fool if he has a daughter of his own.

And I guess he was also pissed about
Nathan having a daughter instead of a son, which I guess had been the original plan until their lead character concept artist kept asking 'What if it was a girl?'

I think the idea of a male adventurer/treasure seeker having a daughter following in his footsteps is a sweet and lovely concept. Guess it's too hard to grasp for some folks. :monster:

Nate: There were families, where did they all go?

Nate bby we've been through this before they are zombies and they are going to try to eat you. I mean seriously you'd think this was his first rodeo.

@Lith: Will read when I finish, there seems to be spoilers there. :P

If they wanted to continue the series in future, they could focus on the adventures of the elder daughter and younger son. I was disappointed no one died. Happy ever afters are sooo several years ago :awesome:.

Just finished the third game, I'll probably start the fourth on Monday since I need a short break from the series in general. Can't wait to finally look behind those spoiler tags after weeks of avoiding spoilers like mad! :awesome:
