I'll have to check out Focus

Yeah classic band, Moving Waves, Focus 3 and Hamburger Concerto are essential Dutch Prog classics.

Van der Graaf Generator - A Plague Of Lighthouse Keepers

Edit; Fun fact, Enslaved are big Focus fans and as they are curating Roadburn this year, Focus is one of the bands that will be playing there. :monster:

Really, really wish I could go to Roadburn this year but as I'm unemployed there's pretty much no chance that will be happening :sadpanda:

Yeah, pretty interesting stuff they've got, Fields of The Nephilim rules so much, but it's not as interesting as Akerfeldt curating last year, Magma, Anglagard and Comus ftw :monster:

Coldworker - Grave New World

Utopia - Utopia Theme

On full prog mode too here. Last week I scored on vinyl Focus - Hamburger Concerto, Utopia - Todd Rundgren's Utopia, Renaissance - Turn Of The Cards, The Moody Blues - Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, Justin Hayward & John Lodge - Blue Jays, Jethro Tull - Benefit (Signed by Martin Barre!) Peter Hammill - Enter K and Bo Hansson - Music Inspired By The Lord Of The Rings. Not fucking bad for 50 Euro's.

Awesome haul. I can't wait until I have money again so I can start picking up LPs again.

Gentle Giant - [Playing the Fool: The Official Live #02] Just the Same [5:20]

If there's a better example of a band shifting musical styles on a dime, I'm not aware of one. Zappa is the only artist I'm aware of who was as good at Genre Roulette. This has to be one of the best live albums ever recorded.

Shifting in musical styles doesn't get crazier than Naked City's Torture Garden EP, imo..

Oh yeah, I guess Zorn in general belongs in the same league as those two. I need to explore his discography more

That's not even his longest album side. Initiation has 32 minutes on one side and 35 on the other :monster: It came with a sticker saying that if you played it with a worn needle it would ruin the record :monster:

Enslaved - [Eld #04] Kvasirs blod [7:51]

Todd Rundgren - [Faithful #02] Good Vibrations [3:44]

It's eerie how much this sounds like the original. Which is, of course, the whole point; Rundgren explained the motivation of the first album side as treating rock music like European classical music, where pieces are performed over and over in exactly the same way. He certainly succeeded in this aim.

Yeah, he's a very diverse and engaging artist. Some really good albums you might not have heard include Something/Anything?, A Wizard, a True Star, Todd, Initation, Faithful, Hermit of Mink Hollow, Another Live (Utopia), Ra (Utopia), and Liars. If an album filled with affectionate (and dead-on) Beatles parodies appeals to you you'll also want to check out Utopia's Deface the Music.
