So I...acquired the entirety of Duel Monsters due to the nostalgia in this thread and I've been watching episodes that I had fond memories of or couldn't remember. Just today I finished my abridged tour of the Orichalcos arc. It may have been dumb and didn't really fit in the plot at all, but damn was it awesome when Weevil pissed off Atem and so he attacked him like 5 times after he had already won, lol.

Here's a secret scene from the movie I discovered today btw:

Jaden's hair is not main-character status worthy.

My favorite part was when Yugi called Atem a piece of shit and the two dueled. I wish that part was a bit longer.

Also, some stuff I translated.

Holy shit, crack, that's...entirely too depressing and amazingly well done and written. You almost made me cry, with that Yugi comic. I should ban you for that.

The original versions are... more depressing, but it's more difficult than I thought, translating the text into English. I think I b'aawed at the Yugi one.

If you ban me, your soul will die.

Can you show me the other comics? And maybe translate them too, so I can shed man-tears over the touching, and sad contents of each panel therein?

That's what I plan to do, but I found those two to be the most touching, which is why I did those two first. :monster:

Freaking Anzu, how many times has she stopped him from doing something badass? So annoying.
Give her a break. She stopped him for a reason. He was going to kill Haga, she was right to intervene. And while Haga did something horrible, his intentions were just foolishly human.

He wasn't gonna kill anything. They're holograms and Haga had already lost his soul by that point anyway. And even if he could have killed him, I'm not sure too many would care :monster:

Atem was better off when he was more vindictive, and Haga certainly earned it that time. :awesome:

It's early, sorry. And I agree that Haga every last bit of his attack, but Atem really needed to calm down and stop. And I'm pretty sure Anzu was freaked out herself.

Yeah, Atem's flirtation with darkness was really quite amusing in the Doma arc, but it seriously had to be stopped. It was like he was reverting back to his early manga, pre-duel monsters self. :monster:

He made a great vigilante, but he was also kinda crazy back in those days too. Burning people alive, leaving people blind, etc.

Yes but instead of becoming super-good, he could have used a bit more balance.

For example, when he dueled Yami Malik, I think HE should have created a Shadow Game before Malik so he could force Malik to play by his rules rather than the other way around.
Also at the end of Doma, I thought he could have benfitted from starting a Shadow Game after the knights destroyed the Seal. That would make sure Dartz couldn't use his soul for Leviathan.

Agreed with Force's post and the sentiments expressed therein.

That is all. Carry on.

Playing a Game of Darkness carries with it a huge risk. If Atem were to do that, he'd not only be putting himself at risk, but Yugi's soul at risk as well. That's one of the main reasons Atem stopped constantly playing Games of Darkness with all of his opponents.

When you initiate a Game of Darkness, you're offering your mind/body/soul as the ante, to take your opponent's mind/body/soul. It's never without risk. And I don't think Yugi would appreciate Atem doing something so bad, especially while residing in his body. :monster:

And Yugi'd rather be separated from Atem and pay for all his Life points lost because Malik was controlling the Shadow Game? It was was an absolute certainty that Malik would make it a Shadow Game almost immediately, they should have formulated a plan for their own and preempt him.

Howabout a Shadow Game in which, for each Life Point lost, their other selves would slowly gain control? Then all they'd have to do is get Yami Malik's points low enough that normal Malik could surrender. (After all, that's what happened anyway, but it would have been much easier this way)

Shadow Games are a huge risk, and he would have never allowed himself to risk Yugi's soul; it's not his body, after all. Concerning the duel with Yami Malik, the real Malik's soul would have been used as a sacrifice - and even if he was to initiate the Game of Darkness, he would have had to find a way to destroy Yami Malik without killing of Malik as well.

And Yugi'd rather be separated from Atem and pay for all his Life points lost because Malik was controlling the Shadow Game? It was was an absolute certainty that Malik would make it a Shadow Game almost immediately, they should have formulated a plan for their own and preempt him.
Again, it's not only Yugi and Atem's life at risk, but Malik's as well. The only reason why Atem was able to kill Yami Malik was Rishid's words, and I'm sure if they were alternatively formulating a plan to bring back the real Malik in control, they wouldn't know how at that point.

Yes, Shadow Games are a huge risk, but are they not slightly LESS risky when YOU set up the rules to them than allowing your opponent to do so?

And besides, as the Doma arc proved, he need not ante up Yugi's soul, only his own. Yugi's soul was ONLY at risk because Malik set it up that way.

And finding a way to save normal Malik would have made much more sense and easier to do had Atem set up the game, imo.

Well clearly, if they had the foresight to know Yami Malik would initiate a Game of Darkness with such a huge risk, they'd have done something about it. But a Game of Darkness could literally be anything. It'd be like trying to prepare for the sky to fall, or the earth to crack open. The only certainty they knew they had to do, was just win.

Howabout a Shadow Game in which, for each Life Point lost, their other selves would slowly gain control? Then all they'd have to do is get Yami Malik's points low enough that normal Malik could surrender.

So then the Penalty Game would be the destruction of the other personality, which, worst case scenario, would be Atem. Yugi would never approve of that risk. Remember, a Game of Darkness must have a "Penalty Game." A consequence that must be inflicted by the winner. Yeah, they could've done that, but what would happen if by some twist of fate Yugi/Atem, lost and Yami Malik made Atem disappear forever?

Hindsight is 20/20, dude. And while that could possibly work, it still doesn't take away the risk of anteing up your soul or mind as a bet. The only safest thing they could count on is just winning fair & square and not getting caught up in the twisted darkness that resides in all the Millennium Items.

But there was literally NO QUESTION that Malik would start a Shadow Game. It could have been anything yes, but none of them good. They would absolutely have been better off preparing for one of their own.

Doesn't it depend on whether the challenger willingly accepts the duel? I'm pretty sure Yami Malik would have only played the Game of Darkness under his conditions, not by theirs.

I dunno, Yugi's never seemed to turn down a Shadow Game when Pegasus or anyone else has started one. Besides, Yami Malik wanted the Millennium Puzzle or...revenge or something, can't remember.

I also doubt Kaiba would've let him back out.

You can't back out of a Game of Darkness. Once its initiated, it'll only stop when either someone loses, a tie occurs, or someone's too fucked up to continue, and then they lose by forfeit.

And naw, that's a 4Kids dub plot contrivance they added that wasn't in the original story. Malik, and Yami Malik wanted to kill Yugi and Atem. He wasn't interested in the Millennium Puzzle at all. That's why he had brainwashed Jou try to chuck the pieces of the puzzle into the ocean. He wanted Atem dead, out of revenge.

I also doubt Kaiba would've let him back out.

Well, given Kaiba's previous experiences with Games of Darkness, I'm sure he'd rather they never happen in the first place too. :monster:
