But how hard would it be to change the STARTING hands? Most of then do actually have full decks.
For example, as I stated, Yugi starts every damn duel in the latter seasons with Gazelle and Berfomet. Why? Sure they're non-tribute, largely inconsequential cards, but he has plenty of others.
The Magnet Warriors rapidly disappear from use. Then the [Royalty]'s Knight cards which he ONLY uses to summon the God cards and never does anything else with them. He had more variety in DM when the rules didn't make any sense. He had Giant Soldier of Stone and Feral Imp and Celtic Guardian and Silver Fang and Beaver Warrior, etc.

Its odd that his deck became less varied. You could say his deck became more coherent...but he its not like he really sticks with theme. Dark Magician is of course the center but its not like he has much of a Spellcaster deck. That Breaker card he freaked out on Haga with never showed up again, and that was one of the few low-level spellcasters he had. It's just kinda weird.

Instead, it just makes it look like they're stacking the cards :monster:

this was more or less justified in the original series where they pretty much confirmed that Yugi had a supernatural ability to draw just the right card at any given time, but yeah it's gotten a bit absurd in GX and 5D's

it could just be lazy writing, but sometimes i wonder if it's intentional just to make it easier to be able to push toys etc of specific monsters. i mean if a specific mon didn't make an appearance in almost every episode would it still be memorable enough that little kids would still want to buy merch of it?

Since it's going to be awhile before we see the the 10th Anniversary YGO movie, I decided that for shits and grins, I'd watch the first YGO DM movie, "Pyramid of Light." As most of you probably know, it was originally released first in the US, due to being commissioned by 4kids for the Western audience. I never liked it.

But then, it was released in Japan, and redone by NAS to fit the quality they were accustomed to. Redoing the music, added scenes, etc. It was actually quite the different movie in Japanese. I liked it a bit more. It was enjoyable.

And then, that's when I read, the actual novelization of the movie. Which is based on the original screenplay that apparently was pitched for the film, but got cut up into a bunch of tiny pieces to fit the run time and ideal 4kids had for a children's movie. This was truly entertaining.

The novelization makes the movie make sense. Not just in terms of plot but its relation to the actual series proper. Anubis isn't just a giant movie-exclusive, space flea from nowhere, either.

If you're curious and want a good read, you should actually check it out. At the end, they even include a nifty deck list of all the character's and how they duel. Along with some interesting commentary regarding the differences between the show in Japan in the US.

Sounds like AC-ACC.

EDIT - Novelization was meh. Already knew the King of Light and Darkness bits, reading that didn't add a lot for me.

Jezeus, even the cover art for the novel as a thumbnail image looks x9001 times better than the animation in the movie. That's...That's rather sad, don't you think? XD

Also why youtube whyyyyyyy have you taken down the account I was getting my subs from?!

...okay, found my subber's new account. It's all good now. :awesome:

So you already knew Priest Akinadin created Anubis by mummifying him with the organs and eyes of a jackal so that he would one day be revived as Anubis so that he could make Seto the Pharaoh of the world? And about all the Millennium Tome of Alchemy?

Also found it interesting how they explained the business relations between I2 and Kaiba corp, in terms of how the cards are made, and that apparently they are all embedded with a chip that contains all the data to be read by Kaiba Corp's duel disk system.

I know Yu-Gi-Oh! doesn't exactly adhere to Egyptian mythology. But isn't Anubis already a god? How would Akhenadon have created him?

Akinadin wasn't creating Anubis the god, he was creating the person who is "Anubis" (as in the character) to become the avatar of Anubis, the Egyptian God of the dead.

You need to read it. :monster:

That's one of the many secrets within the Millennium Tome of Sorcery, the book that lead to the creation of the Millennium Items. Akinadin used it to turn some poor hapless servant into an avatar of the God of Death and hopefully, make him do his bidding and make Seto Pharaoh of the World. He sacrificed him as a living mummy.

Well while of course 4Kids censors a lot of shit - that would have been a bit spoilerific to put in the movie. Didn't it come out before the final season aired?

I was always impressed how clear they kept Yugi getting stabbed by Kaiba's clown.

It came out before the Battle City's finals aired
, and they had no problem at all spoiling how Yugi won his matches, got the three Egyptian God cards, and how Malik surrendered in the final duel, thus killing Yami Malik. :monster:

Peten the Dark Clown was fucking hilarious. I loved that.

Yeah, you don't remember?

The YGO Pyramid of Light movie came out around the time the Noa filler arc ended and Battle City was about to get back up into the Finals.

So the film's beginning basically spoiled how Battle City concluded, since its beginning shows how all the duelists of the world were watching Yugi compete in Battle City and then its conclusion. A lot of fans were pissed. :monster:

I didn't see the movie till later when I downloaded it, so I never really noticed when it came out. That's pretty stupid. Well then forget what I said in that case :monster:

Incidentally Mako, I'm reading the manga (the early ones), and Atem's a damn cheater. The die broke in half?! Really? lol

LOL which chapter did that happen again?

Hey, if the die breaks, that's not his fault. :awesome: :awesome: :awesome:

Bakura is the bigger cheater. Fucking manipulating the dice roll with his leg under the table. That was fucking hilarious.

It was one of the pretty early ones. I'm up to 43 now. Some of the games are really cool, but others a pretty silly. I like stabbing the stack of bills, for example, and I loved the "use only one finger" one back when I first saw the original series. But the die-breaking one, lol.

Yeah, I love the early chapters of YGO, when Atem was full of crazy, vigilante justice, and he'd just as soon throw a Penalty Game at you for looking at him or his friend's the wrong way. :monster:

And Seto and Mokuba Kaiba were just batshit insane.

Those were fun times. *sighs nostalgically*

ForceStealer

Yeah they were, well Mokuba was at least. I'm not sure Kaiba is any less insane now, he just is in a different way. But Kaiba making a holographic Penalty Game is pretty sweet.

Kaiba's mellowed out a lot.

I mean, when he saw the death game Malik created with Jou and Anzu...he was actually disturbed by it.

A few chapters earlier before Duelist Kingdom, he would've grinned, narrowed his eyes and thought, " nowthat's a damn good idea..meh heh heh..."

Kaiba's sadistic streak kinda peeked through when he was grinning in amusement at Jounouchi getting burned up by Ra though. :monster:

I always wondered why Kaiba didn't have any trouble accepting that. Then I learned the dub made him blind instead of just apathetic.

Does Kaiba give him a bit of credit in the Japanese like he did in the dub after he's still standing?

Yeah, Kaiba was very surprised. And then when everyone thought Jou was gonna die he was all, "with your death, I acknowledge you as a true duelist."

Gotcha, Duelist Kingdom is the only season I've seen in Japanese. I might download it, or maybe just the manga, we'll see.

But yeah, I too prefer the vindictive Atem. Made more sense for a Pharoah anyway :monster:
