Some interesting tidbits about Season 2 from the voice actors.

Apparently General Iroh (Dante Basco) has a role in episode 3 or 4. So perhaps the Krew will be hanging out with the United Forces for a bit?

So there are these storyboards from (what is apparently) season 2 that were leaked/officially posted (I can't remember which) a month or two ago and I thought I should perhaps repost them in light of the season finale for potential speculation:

Some interesting stuff to be aware of: the time stamps are 12:58 and 14:40, so the second and third storyboard are separated by a relatively decent amount of time.

Finally found out where these storyboards came from, a March 23, 2012 post from Bryan Konietzko's tumblr, where he was talking about Ian Graham's work on Book 2.
http://bryankonietzko.tumblr.com/post/19786148943/ian-graham-and-i-have-worked-together-for-many
Ian Graham and I have worked together for many years, starting back in our formative days on the insane production of Invader Zim. He was a storyboard artist on all three seasons of Avatar, then he came back as storyboard supervisor on Book 1 of Korra, and now he is a director on Book 2. Here are some shots from the animatic meeting of one of his episodes, along with some of his storyboard panels. He and I share a big passion for Gainax, as evidenced by his Gurren Lagann shirt. Ian is an incredibly hard worker, known for rolling into the studio at 4:00 AM on a regular basis. He’s a big part of our animation family. You can check out lots of great work from his career on his DeviantArt page here.

But then I also found some other storyboards that I think are from Book 2 as well, that were grouped together with the above storyboards (but are not from in the March 23 post)...so further speculation material?

GanXingba's fourth comedy Amon video sketch (I personally think it might be the best one yet)

I wonder if the punchline was supposed to be: The Air-bender says, "Your prices just blow me away".

Kinda ironic/appropriate that they use the Green Bird song from Cowboy Bebop (I think when Spike (another Steve Blum character) is also falling from a glass window)

That article was a little confusing for me at first, I thought at first they were restating that there is going to be a Book 2. Then I realized that they mean "Season 1, Book 2" airs in 2013, as part of the original 26-episode order. This new 26-ep order is for "Season 2."

How are there two books in season 1? Would that just be seasons one and two????

Dan Snierson, the article writer, clarified what he meant by Season 2, Book 2 is still its own stand alone story and had/has its own separate production schedule from Book 1, article writer is simply calling the next 26 episodes a Season 2 because the first 12 episodes were initially ordered as a mini-series and then the 14 Book 2 were quickly added on, so I guess the article writer simply just considered the first 26 episodes a Season 1. Bottom line is that the show will have at least a total of 52 episodes.

I really wouldn't mind them being together if they had been developed properly. But they were too rushed, and aren't very believable. Breaking up could be good, then maybe proper pacing for them to get back together and do it right this time?

Bryan Koneitzko's tumblr post clearing up any confusion about the additional 26 episode renewal.

I’m sure this meme is dead by now, but it still cracks me up.

The Legend of Korra has been picked up for an additional 26 episodes, which will be split into Books 3 & 4! Mike and I had been hoping to announce this big news to the crowd at the Korra SDCC panel tomorrow morning, but the network put out a press release yesterday. And as we suspected, people are pretty confused, understandably so. Hopefully people are also excited.

I’m sure I’ll be trying to clear this up in posts for a long time to come, but I’ll lay it all out right now:

–Book 1 = 12 episodes

–Book 2 = 14 episodes

–Book 3 = 13 episodes

–Book 4 = 13 episodes

–TOTAL = 52 episodes

Why are the four books split up into those numbers of episodes, you might ask?

Initially, Nickelodeon picked up Korra as a 12-episode miniseries. Their idea was to do 12-episode arcs that were more standalone than the original Avatar series. Mike and I were cool with this idea, as we had originally wanted the seasons to be 12 episodes long instead of 20, and creatively we liked the idea of doing tighter story arcs.

The original plan was that if Nickelodeon wanted more episodes, they would order them 12 episodes at a time. But while we were in production on Book 1, Nickelodeon decided to change their season lengths from 20 episodes (like Avatar had) to the more standardized international length of 26 episodes. They liked how Book 1 was coming out and decided to round out the order to fit their new 26-episode mold, and we got a 14-episode pick-up, which became Book 2.

Then, the network wanted even more Korra, so they picked up another order of 26 episodes. Mike and I wanted to stick with the shorter “books,” so creatively we are splitting the second order of 26 into Books 3 & 4, 13 episodes each.

What makes this even more confusing is that the network considers each block of 26 episodes a “season,” which is another reason we try to stick to calling these Korra arcs “books.” So for the network’s purposes, Books 1 & 2 are Season 1, and Books 3 & 4 are Season 2.

When will Books 2, 3, and 4 come out?

Someday!

What will happen after Book 4?

Mike and I plan to wrap up the Korra storyline at that point with the close of Book 4. Then I plan to crawl into a dark cave and go into hibernation. And hopefully see my wife more often.

I hope that clears it up. SEE YOU IN SAN DIEGO! If you can’t make the panel and Nick booth signing tomorrow, we’ll be signing at the Dark Horse booth on Saturday, I *think* at 2:30 (but I’m not sure). If you are going to SDCC, please be safe! You probably already heard, but tragically a convention attendee died in an accident on Tuesday morning. Take care.
So there will be 4 Books, the "Seasons 1 and 2" is purely a network language schematic thing. And it sounds like all four Books are going to be more standalone than the original Avatar series Books (so I doubt Books 3 and 4 will share the same "Big Bad").

So has anyone checked out "The Making of a Legend" commentary (1 minute spiels before each episodes acts) that Bryke is giving on the Nicktoons reruns of Book 1? They're pretty interesting for people who don't read every interview/information that production team people give out.
Here are the commentaries so far for people who missed out or don't have Nicktoons
Episodes 1-3 commentary:

Episode 4 commentary:

Episode 5 commentary:

This last one is causing a (predictably) small fan-rage on tumblr
