Doctor Who!!~

It was a bit like a run of the mill episode for me. There was nothing very special in it.
I thought Clara's reaction to the change was basically a rehash of Billie Piper's reaction to 10. Which pissed me off cos Clara's supposed to have fragmented into all of the Doctor's lives and she saw different versions of him in the xmas special, so of every companion she should have been most understanding re his change. It would have been nice to see her cope with it in a more human way - ie not so skin fucking deep!

Also I think that he did what Rory said he always does, makes people reckless to try to please him. I think he pushed that robot by making him want to jump. At least that's what the Who fan in me wishes to believe, realistically, he pushed him. The doctor is a badass and has done worse to higher numbers of enemies. he got to be the good guy when River was around cos he knew she'd do the dirty work for him. In the other series' he's always done shitty things if he saw no other way.

What strikes me as interesting is that he didn't give the machines a choice. Didn't offer to take them to the promised land and let them live out their lives.

Clara went into all the other timelines, but that's not this her. Those are Clara Fragments that aren't this Clara. She can still be attached to 'her' Doctor, and worried that something's wrong with the regenerated one, because A: he has bucked a trend of each one looking younger and B: Holy hell that was probably the second insanest just-post regeneration Doctor ever (No one beats Colin on being insane out of the box until they strangle someone).

Decent episode I thought, and they're clearly building up some thematic elements about how the Doctor is post Time War, but for me it all came down to
"I AM NOT A GOOD DALEK. YOU ARE A GOOD DALEK." that hit the Doctor especially hard during his existential crisis about who he is. I'm curious how Clara's relationship with Danny Pink will end up playing out, both for her, and thematically for this season.

(Also, interesting to see Missy pop-up during the middle of the episode).

I liked that episode quite a lot. Strong start to the season I've felt.

Claymore

I love the fact that the two are still trying to work each other out and where they fit in each other's lives, rather than jumping straight into the norm like everything is the same when it's clearly not. It was meant to feel forced and awkward, like him
turning up 3 weeks later and knowing it. This was mirrored in the ending with Clara realising that she still can't answer his question - but the fact that he is trying is good enough. Loved it.

The Clara / Danny scenes was also a breath of fresh air, so I can't complain there either.

I know a lot of people aren't fully convinced on Capaldi yet, but I'm enjoying the slow burn and development of who this Doctor is, like
the brilliant line of Clara being his carer so he doesn't have to, sacrificing the soldier so that the group could escape, and that he is a better Dalek.
I know people wanted to grab and love him straight away, but I'm liking how this is going.

Episode two
I agree Claymore, this Doctor reminds me more of how Chris Ecclestone was at the beginning, I'm not sure if there are any egs I could pull up, he just seemed edgier than 10 and 11, like he didn't have to say I'm the oncoming storm, it was just known.

I was really hoping that broken Dalek was going to be Clara from the asylum of the Daleks. But I loved the 'a broken Dalek is a good Dalek' thing. I also loved that 'you are a good Dalek' line - has that not been said before though? Maybe by another enemy? I had a sense of dejavu with that line..

Ryu (or anyone else who knows these things) What happened to the whole oldest question in the universe being answered and the crack in the universe? are they still waiting and Christmass is safe cos the Doctor did what he did? I feel like I've missed something here! Or is it to be continued?

Also, I saw a mention on tumblr that last episode mentioned not breathing, and this episode they couldn't hold their breath while shrinking makes it seem like there might be some subplot around breathing.

Also, I like that Capaldi's Doctor makes jokes and other things that no one else seems to be really into, he's turned down a companion who isn't what he's looking for, and Clara is getting more time to just be human, which is a brilliant way to showcase all the ways that The Doctor just… ISN'T. I'm a big fan of the disjointed relationship because the Doctor doesn't know how to be alone, but at the same time, he doesn't really know what to do with a companion yet, because Clara is still just like his life coach when she shows up.

@Cab: In DALEK it told Nine that he would make a good Dalek, but I'm not sure it meant it like this. It was a clever, subtle callback though. Additionally, the question and the crack got solved at Christmas insofar as that counts, because some of the loose ends are still a bit muddy.

I really loved that episode. I'm not sure how it stacks up against the two that preceded it but it might have been the most purely enjoyable episode of the season thus far.

Into the Dalek - Pretty good episode, it indeed had a lot of "Dalek" in it. However it shouldn't have been the second episode of the season. What they were going for with the Doctor would've worked so much better if it had been the 6 or 7 episode of the season.

Robot Of Sherwood - I had forgotten the name already and will probably forget it again soon. It had some funny moments here and there but nothing that's gonna stick with me. It's just one of those filler episodes of the season.

This. Yeah it's just more exploration of his character.

I think that the most important point is at the end: The Doctor still doesn't know if he's a good man, but he learned that trying to be is what matters, because he still inspires the good in others by doing that, whether or not he actually succeeds, and whether or not he's actually REAL - which was a really good commentary on Doctor Who as a show, in addition to Twelve's current development.

As much as I love Doctor Who, I also really love this Tomodachi Life set. I'll think about it.

10th Doctor companions FTW

We still need Capt. Jack, Mickey, and maybe Sarah Jane even though she was mostly a 4th Doctor companion...
