SPOILERS, GUYS. Tag them, please.

Those moments at the end between the Doctor and Clara were heartbreaking. I accidentally saw a few lines prior to the episode, but the delivery made me forget that and Jenna's acting was brilliant.

I take it Clara might not be in the next episode, according to the teaser?

I thought general policy in this thread was that aired episodes were fair game to be talked about without spoiler tags, but I'm not sure if that's actually the case. if it is, maybe it should be edited into the thread title.

The official summary suggests that she'll be appearing in the episode, but also that this is the last episode with her travelling with the Doctor in it. However, the episode summary after this one also mentions her appearing, so it remains to be seen whether she's leaving the show. Personally I wouldn't jump to any conclusions. Moffat loves to troll us.

Shouldn't there be more time, as so others who haven't watched them (such as me just before the post, but thankfully have now) don't stumble across it by accident? Or make it painfully obvious in the opening post/title, "SPOILERS AFTER AIR DATE"?

I suspected as much.

When those scenes started, I wondered if she was going to leave the series after feeling so utterly betrayed. I admit myself kind of pissed at the Doctor for that, thinking back on what SHE'S done for him. Because scattering yourself across time isn't enough these days, obviously. :monster:

Moffat is a cunt for messing around with us like this. :/

I think that the overall rule of thumb that was always present in the thread was spoiler tagging about the episode if it was about upcoming content, or if it was before the US airdate, and everything after the US airdate is assumed to be out in the open for everyone.

Revisiting my comments from a couple of weeks ago ... it seems like nearly all the effort for Series 7 went into "The Day of the Doctor" and "The Time of the Doctor," both of which are really freakin' good, even with some of the weirdness in the latter. Several of the previous episodes of the season ("The Power of Three," "The Angels Take Manhattan," "The Rings of Akhaten" and "Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS" in particular) are outright bad, though.

Obviously the amazing chemistry between Jenna-Louise Coleman and Matt Smith helped the latter half of the season a lot, and made for the first time I actually enjoyed Smith in the role.

Seeing as I've not been able to watch any of the Series 8 episodes, can anyone give me a solid comparison to the previous season? Tone, themes, narrative quality?

Honestly, I don't know how much I can speak to it in that sense. To me, it feels a bit more like Classic Who, with a few REALLY good interconnected episodes that've really played to the the whole of the Doctor's history as a single, multifaceted individual over a period of time that's been noticeable more than any of the other Doctors. Also, the companion/Doctor perspective has been really different as of late.

It's way better than the previous season. I didn't dislike series 7 as much as you did (I found quite a few of the episodes enjoyable), but it was definitely Moffat's weakest season as showrunner. This season has been Moffat's strongest. The show seems to be trying to take the tack they attempted (and failed at) with Colin Baker making the Doctor less likeable, but this time around they're pulling it off much better (because the scripts are actually good this time). The show is definitely moving into darker territory with several few episodes that delve deep into psychological horror on the level of the Silence, Vashta Nerada, Weeping Angels, etc. On the other hand it's leavened with a bit more human interaction this time around; several of the characters at the school where Clara teaches are developed in depth.

Oh, all that does sound good. :monster:

Wish I could get caught up online, but I'm afraid of those websites that say you can watch new TV episodes (malware).

I think this last Season has been the most profound New Who has been.
Seriously, take a look back at Season 1 (series 1). I saw World War 3 a couple of days ago, it's extremely chavy and unwatchable. I'm surprised I didn't realize it at the time. I really don't like that visual -middle of the road- look anymore.

Yay I was finally actually able to watch an episode as it aired!

But yes, this was actually a pretty good episode overall.

Something seems weird about the cinematography this season, though. I'm not really digging it.

Great episode ... until
the final few moments with Clara suddenly backtracking. That didn't sit well with me. Ignoring that, a great monster, a great gimmick, and some really nice drama / dilemma going on.

Now that you mention it, I wonder if I would feel this way if I had seen all of the other episodes proceeding it first. I feel like this episode was addressing issues brought previously that I've just plain missed. :monster:

It was another really strong episode until
the Clara backtracking. It just didn't work for me.

Mum - " I don't like this new doctor, he's kind of an ass"

I think that's the point :monster:

Props to Perkins for

So… was I the only one who liked the, "You never know if it's an addiction until you try to quit." aspect of the episode? The whole episode was about the risk/rush/thrill and venturing back into it against your 'better' judgment. I'm interested to see how the Twelfth Doctor will handle the situation where someone had their perfect opportunity for an out, but got drawn back in as soon as he realizes it.

^ That was one of my favourite moments of the episode. As far as I'm aware (and I've only watched since 9th Doctor, obviously), I don't think anyone's ever asked him this. It was a great episode and there's still so much to explore with this Doctor. Heck, that was episode 8 as well!

Previous incarnations have been asked similar questions (Especially 7), but not the same question, exactly.

Good episode. The previews were clever in not showing Clara and making us wonder if this was a Doctor Only ep.
Also, JLC looks good as a flapper.

Enjoyed the hell out of the new episode. The final little bit painted a really good picture of who the new Doctor is that sold it really well, especially for the strictly Nu Who crowd.

Agreed. Really enjoyed that episode, though I can now kinda see why so many people are becoming annoyed with the show becoming 'Clara Who'.

I have to say though, the sub-plot this season has been piss poor in it's presentation. Give me Bad Wolf, Torchwood, or Silence Will Fall any day. At the moment, whenever she shows up I'm just 'meh'. There's been no real build up or development of it, and even worse, we're just given random scenes tacked on at random points in episodes. The execution hasn't worked at all, almost as if this was a last minute decision and they went back and did these things.

That's apparently because every episode this season is meant to be completely standalone, but I'll agree, the intersprinkling into various episodes didn't work for me.

Clara as the Doctor was genius. I was laughing so much! Jenna wins again.

But Peter was pretty good this week, despite being stuck in the TARDIS. When he thinks he's about to die and doesn't know whether Clara can hear him, it's a defining moment for the Doctor. We got to see him quite vulnerable and truthful.

Next week's preview? I'm feeling a bit meh about it. Overall, this week's episode was brilliant.

Does anyone else feel like the Doctor's "Eleventh Hour speech moment" wasn't quite as gripping as it should've been?
