Soooooo… In the Forest of the Night was just fuckin' weird. It felt like an episode of The Magic School Bus and Captain Planet tried to roll together and write a Doctor Who episode.

So did I, even though I didn't get what was going on half the time. Felt like a filler episode tbh.

Also, next week's preview worries me so much, but it looks so exciting.

Edit: Ok, just looking at the trailer, I've got a theory that
Missy switches bodies with Clara? Missy opens her eyes shocked and this doesn't seem like Clara at all. MINDFUCK ALERT.

Edit 2: The theories on the YouTube video's page is insane. But they're all connecting Missy to Clara, which has probably been inevitable from the beginning.

Oh god yes. It was just a fucking mess, Clara's characterization was all over the place and
that scene were Clara tells the Doctor to just leave them to die had no weight or emotion to it. Btw the girl's sister that turned out to be trapped or something right in front of their house, do I care how she got there to begin with? No I don't. This was easily one of the worst episodes I've seen of Doctor Who in a while.

I just have to echo similar sentiments. That episode was just a completely weird mess with no emotional impact whatsoever - and there should have been a ton of emotional impact. From
Clara trying to save the last Timelord (and not wanting to be the last human) to Danny (who should have exploded at Clara for freaking lying to him all this time) to the sister who just popped up at the end. It just lacked emotion, drive and felt like a real mess.
How can you have an episode like this before the finale? And yet again I just roll my eyes at yet another 2 second Missy scene. I honestly hope they don't attempt such a poor way to show that the series has an arc next year.

At least the finale looks exciting.

Does anyone else feel like the Doctor's "Eleventh Hour speech moment" wasn't quite as gripping as it should've been?

X :neo:

Really, Twelve's defining moment was when he offered the alien a drink because he had the feeling he was about the kill him, and it was plenty gripping.

Well, yeah. Twelve's had plenty of character defining moments that were amazing. I was specifically talking about the big "eleventh hour-y speech" not being really solid.

I don't think Twelve is the big superhero speeches kinda Doctor really.

This episode confused me.

I thought that the whole point of the 50th is that the Doctor is no longer the last of the Time Lords and that all he needs to do is go figure out how to get Galifrey out of the tiny pocket universe.

Or did this change in one of the episodes that I have not yet seen?

He's still theoretically able to find the other Time Lords, but he doesn't have any more information than he had in the Christmas special. I'm kind of expecting this to be addressed in the finale, but I'm not sure.

The whole Time Lords thing has been mostly ignored all season. It seemed to me that as soon as he regenerated from 11 to 12 this was no longer a priority.

To be fair, it wasn't even a priority for Eleven from "The Day of the Doctor" to "The Time of the Doctor." He would have forgotten that he knew Gallifrey was saved because The Curator is a "younger" incarnation. He would have just known it was a possibility.

Granted, he did find out in "The Day of the Doctor," so I don't know what happened there -- whether he didn't know where to start looking or whether his newer, more hardass incarnation isn't convinced he should be making too much of an effort to bring some of those assholes back.

Retrieving Gallifrey means The Master, Rassilon, etc. come back.

I feel that their giving the Doctor another set of regenerations shows they aren't quite as stuck as previously believed.

Yeah, I'm still confused about that, to be honest. "The Time of the Doctor" was a great episode and all, but it implies that the Time Lords can come back through when they are ready, doesn't it? And that they aren't in suspended animation.

Can I just say how much I love Danny and wish he had joined the Doc and Clara so that we could have had more sparks?

Speaking of which, where was Courtney this week?

^ That trip was for the younger kids, maybe year seven's. Can just tell by seeing how young they are.

I liked the line about listening to kids instead of shoving off medication on to them. So often people medicate kids so they are normal and the NHS is rather trigger happy to do so.
I feel there is a deeper meaning here. Like with the part with the Dalek having a hole within it but becoming evil after being patched up. The Clockwork Man gradually becoming human.
I imagine the consciousness theme will conclude with the Heaven two parter somehow.

I hadn't noticed that, but it feels spot on. Hell, even The Doctor himself was pretty broken at the start, and he just needed people to be there for him and see him for who is is now, not who he was.

WTF was that? I hadn't seen a finale episode that bad since "The Wedding of River Song".
Those fucking first 10 minutes were abysmal, why the fuck were they ripping off "Father's Day" and not even doing a very good job at it? Why the fuck are they ruining Clara? Missy turned out to be The Master? Saw that one coming a mile away. Just fucking turn into Charles Dance already.

Oh the plus side: lol the Doctor and the Master kissed.

This series has been hit & miss but the first of the two-parter was all right.

I'm ... at a loss for words. That was a really terrible episode. I'd disagree with you Donna, in that I thought the first few minutes was the only really enjoyable part for me. I loved
Clara doing an ultimatum to the Doctor to save Danny or else ... but everything after that was simply horrid. I mean, why the hell would the Doctor even think that there was a way to save someone who had DIED instead of going back and saving him in his time stream? It just made absolutely zero sense. And I'm not even going to get into the 'repair the bodies whilst saving the consciousness' tripe, as that doesn't explain the guy in Flatline who was saved even though his body was reduced to 2D nothingness.

Meh, really hated this episode. Will write some more once I've calmed down and analysed this properly...

Speaking of which, why the hell did Missy / Master say that the Doc was her boyfriend earlier????
