I'm glad she stayed. Clara is a great character.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure this is because Jenna Coleman hasn't been able to make up her mind when she wants to leave.

I have to say, while Moffat gets a lot of flak for the way he handles social issues (at least some of it deserved), I think he's done much better with transgender people than Davies did. The way Cassandra was presented in particular was rife with uncomfortable implications. Meanwhile, not only has Moffat's tenure canonised the fact that Time Lords can change gender without any sort of judgement about it, but

' gender transition is presented as a completely natural thing, and the character isn't depicted having any sort of angst about it and seems utterly comfortable about her new body. (Granted,

she's completely psycho

, but that's not a new thing for the character). Her portrayal does reinforce the unfortunate perception that transgender people hew rigidly to one gender or other, but hey, progress is incremental and any kind of progress is better than none.

in series 9 and hope we get more opposite-gender Time Lord regenerations (although I'm still on the fence about whether the show is ready for a female Doctor after Capaldi).
