I used the Wikia to make sense of some Merril bullshit. I won't spoil anything but basically there's a bug where if you're romancing her, her personal story cutscenes come in the wrong order and you get SPOILED with something before it's even happened. No idea if this was ever fixed.

I like Merril, but I don't really see why they had to completely change the character that was from the Dalish Origin instead of just coming up with a completely new character.

They wave it off as a thing that happens when she encounters demons, I think, but my mind still kinda boggles at their decision to make every aspect of her completely different.

Dragon Age II Ultimate Edition Won't Exist Due to Retailer Disinterest

With so much post-release DLC being made available for virtually every AAA video game in existence these days, it's almost a given that some sort of bundle pack will be made available at a reduced price at some point in each title's future. Not so with Dragon Age II, as executive producer Mark Darrah reveals through Twitter that retailers aren't even interested in trying to move a Dragon Age II Ultimate Edition:

retailers have to be willing to take it. There isn't any retail interest ATM.​

Coupled with the fact that an Exalted March expansion pack was cancelled, I think we have a pretty good picture of just how well Dragon Age II and its add-ons sold in comparison to Dragon Age: Origins.

There are two interesting comments in that thread:

I find the most bizarre thing about this is that someone from Bioware is making a statement that so obviously paints their product in a negative light. Usually anything they say about DA2 is filtered through several hundred layers of bull****, PR-speak and hyperbole.

During a game's supported life-cycle (supported meaning as long as it makes them money), you will never hear or read current devs speak negatively of their product (no matter how bad said product may or may not be).

DA2 is now, for all intents and purposes, no longer generating revenue (no more new content, clearly no one wants to sell it, maybe one last patch). So the devs are no longer bound (contractually or otherwise) to speak of it in terms of it being worth you spending money on, since it's not generating any revenue anyway.

I was very disappointed with DA2, but it is still an above average game & was looking forward to a 'complete' version of the game (with all DLC included etc). I agree with the last comment in that thread:

That is unfortunate. There are aspects of DA2 I really disliked and find worth critiquing, but there are also many aspects of DA2 that I loved. I really was hoping for an Ultimate Edition with all the DLC included, so I didn't have to worry about buying things separately.

Tis' a shame.

All the game really needed was polish, imo - all the core concepts in gameplay and writing were there and they were really great. More DLC could have filled in the missing bits and tightened up that gameplay, but I guess now it won't happen. >:

I hope you keep in mind that if you play as a mage Bethany dies and you get stuck with fucking Carver who is just as annoying as Anders, but in a different way. Dude's fucking inferiority complex and generally dickish attitude towards hawk is beyond annoying imo.

bethany is way better than carver but idk having a sarcastic mage play off him makes him more tolerable. i'm gonna try and set it up so that he becomes a grey warden rather than a templar this time

Carver is basically the reason why I haven't even thought about playing as a mage. I already have to suffer through Anders and Fenris I'm not putting up with his dickish attitude as well.

I'm not surprised Bioware isn't doing anything else with DA2 just after the disaster with the ME3 ending Bioware came out saying that no new material was going to be released for DA2 and they were going to focus on the next game. They still should've released an Ultimate Edition.

I don't like playing as a Mage because I suck at it and idk I prefer being a rouge and using wearpons instead of magics it's more fun. =w= I MISS PLAYING DA2 I HAVEN'T PLAYED IT IN TWO DAYS AND I WANT TO FINISH BAAAW. SOON though... soon...

Fenris is a giant douche bag but I do like him a lot. Like Zee said he has a lot of personal shit going on and when you actually do get the good dialogue with him he's more caring than he appears ;3;
I don't like his relationship with Isabela at all though, bluh. For some reason I can only imagine her with girls. And idk their relationship just is bluh. Then again this is coming from someone who ships him with Merrill

Unless I miss a bit where they actually hook up? idk though, my first femhawke ended up dumping fenris for isabela by the end of the game shit was way wierd

I always play healing!mage because I do. So I keep Carver around and he doesn't even annoy me anymore.

tbh I really like Grey Wardens!Carver, it felt like this was the thing he really needed to kick his ass and let him grow up and find his own way in life.

Also healing mage means I don't need Anders, fuck him.

My first time playing I lost Isabella and I was so pissed at I didn't want anything to do with her. My second playthrough she stuck around and I have to say... I really liked her character and can't imagine my crew without her.

the thing that really annoyed me about dragon age: Origins (and to a lesser extent, 2) that really annoyed me was the complete lack of NPC healer in the very beginning, all the way up to several hours into the game. There were the potions, which at least was something, but between the long cooldowns and the frequency of the fights, it was increasingly painful to slog through the early hours of the games esp. during the hardest difficulties.

The relationship between Isabela and Fenris is just booty calls for each other.

The Legacy DLC


I didn't lose Isabela on my first playthrough, partially because I was banging her but my friendship with her was already by the start of Act 2. She's one of the better ones so she's almost always in my party. My favorite party is Aveline, Bethany, Isabela plus my rogue Hawke.

By the end of the game, Aveline is fantastic. Her taunts just groups everyone into a single spot and Bethany can kill the shit out of big groups, while her health barely goes down a piddling bit.
Also she's a kickass ginger with a fun character progression

I sometimes do prefer Varric to Isabela, though. Isabela's great against smaller groups of enemies where crowd control doesn't quite matter, but on harder difficulties and fights she just dies too frequently and lacks good AoE skills >:

Also high fiving all of the other Archer!Hawkes. Because I totally thought I was the only one that liked to play as an Archer. ORZ

but next time I think for sure it's gonna be mage!Hawke, Fenris (to make it a SUPER rival romance hehe >D), Varric, and Anders. *And will probably switch in Merrill in place of Varric from time to time*
