Congratu-fucking-lations! That sounds uberawesome. I've been to a few cons myself but nothing so grand or an in an official capacity. Here's to hoping it all works out for you and that you have a great time!

I'm mostly curious about what articles you linked to.

I linked to the last 5 I've written by clicking my username in WP and copying the link from "view post" under each one.

Copypaste from the document I sent:

http://thelifestream.net/lifestream...s/29724/cloud-goes-to-the-store-in-fan-video/
http://thelifestream.net/lifestream...ony-to-refund-ps3-ff-xiv-customers-in-europe/

http://thelifestream.net/lifestream...lifestream-presents-case-of-nanaki-audiobook/
http://thelifestream.net/lifestream...23633/square-enix-announces-gamescom-line-up/

There are four reasons I'm totally shocked I got accepted for one of these passes:

1. We are such a niche site.
2. The guidelines say the URL's have to be within the last 3 months. Only one of those is.
3. The guidelines mention that it has to be published under my name. I did put "my online alias is Prince Lex" in the additional comments section when I applied, so maybe that sorted it since my real name is linked to Prince Lex in various places.
4. None of those articles are about general gaming. I suppose it doesn't matter much as long as it's just gaming? Who knows.

When I said I never expected this to be successful, I meant it. I kind of just semi flirt with meeting their guidelines for acceptance instead of actually fulfilling the criteria. But I didn't lie or anything, I provided the information as it was and it seems to have worked out.

Congratulations, this is right up your alley and a great way to celebrate your Masters! :D

Ehm, when is E3? :wacky:

It's from the 10th of June to the 12th of June :monster:

Lex I'm willing to donate a few tens of Euros once you get tickets and a hotel sorted = that it's dead set you're going :monster: I've been burned by donating to private causes before, so for my own personal reasons of sparing myself any form of grudge, I've made it a rule to be careful, no matter who the end receiver is. I'm expecting you to bring home news of the XII HD remaster of course :monster:

I totally understand. I'm going to set something up today, but I'm sure whatever I use will be like kickstarter where if the target isn't met then the money won't be taken out or will be returned to the people who donated it. Of course I think they take a fee so a direct transfer is probably better.

Idk today is the day of extreme planning, but it's hard to put a definite price on things when the price of flights and accommodation is constantly shifting and changing like some sort of FF boss.

You got my squealing yesterday, but I'm making it official by saying congrats here!!!! :monster:

We've got our (Gamerspective) people working on business cards, so with any luck, I should be joining you. Should hopefully have my application submitted by the weekend. But congrats, I'll withhold my growing feelings of envy for now and be supportive of your massive achievement. <3

Hot damn, I am so jealous!

I would totally go, but I have a wedding to go to June 20th and I don't know if my work would let me take that much time off. :(

Does anyone have any recommendations for like a fundraising for trips website? I've seen a few but the more popular ones seem to charge some sort of fee :/

EDIT: What do you guys think about doing an incentive based donation giveaway thing? Like I have the Uncharted 3 Explorer edition which is super rare and comes in this awesome box with goodies - it's selling used for £150 minimum on eBay, so I could say "donate £100 or more and I'll send you this"?

Also I love my Sonic Generations Collector's Edition more than anything because it comes with awesome stuff and is so damn pretty - it has an individually numbered ring in it and they only made 1000 of them. That's selling for £350 on Amazon. So I was thinking I could say "donate £250 or more and I'll send you this" (first come first served obviously).

I have the XIII-2 Crystal Edition which goes for £140 used :/

And I was thinking about gaming incentives too, I have a shitload of old games so I could include a list and say "donate more than £20/30 and take your pick from the list" ? And then just update it as time goes by.

idk, what do people think? Obviously some of these things I don't want to let go of (especially that sonic generations collector's edition, jesus it's rare and so fucking beautiful) but if it's the difference between going or not going then I'll take the hit. I don't want people to think I'm taking everyone's money and going "nya nya nya nya nya" in the background, I am genuinely super poor lol.

Went to E3 back in '05. Will likely never go again.

Holy cow, congrats!

Good luck for your flight and hotel reservations though. Went for TGS some time ago and we barely managed to get seats and rooms. BARELY. And that was 3/4 months ahead IIRC. =\

A little bit late to the party ... but seriously dude, congratulations. That's amazing news. And good luck on fundraising for the trip.

So, Lex, I've been thinking about your fundraising idea. Assuming it's something you really want to go through with, you're going to be giving up some cool shit you may never get back. Of course, there's the possibility you'll he doing so to fund an experience you may never get to have again, so you weigh that.

Anyway, if you do go through with it, the way you're going to want donations to work is like so: Rather than first come-first serve rewards for big donations, you're going to want to do drawings where your donation level makes you eligible for different prizes. You figure out what those should be (maybe it's 1/4 of the item's value or something like that).

You can still do the used games incentives for the 20/30 donations, but this way, instead of getting one person chipping in for one item at a big price, you get maybe ten people chipping in for the same item at a lower price that adds up to more than the one big donation would have been.

Of course, that makes advertising this in the right places all the more important, so plan carefully.

I like that, I've seen cars raffled off in similar fashion (a Nissan Skyline draw springs to mind where the tickets were £30 each, but the car was worth several grand).
Lex, get some sort of kickstarter set up and everyone who can will chip in. It's a fantastic opportunity for the forum to become much better known so we're all behind you m'dear.

EDIT: On the proviso I can find it, you can have one near-pristine original copy of FFVII to add to the giveaways. Seems appropriate.

Thanks guys, I'm definitely going to have something started by the end of the week. Those are great ideas - I have an account on the Naughty Dog forums so I'm sure I'd be able to promote it there, and Sonic Retro or elsewhere for the Sonic one :)

If you want something to give away, I could probably do some drawings. Dont know if anyone would want that.

You make a video and put in on the youtube channel, and the TLS facebook page.

Gameplay marathon could raise money too
