Presumably Angeal possessed Jenova cells in the same way Lucrecia did (Lucrecia got them by way of Sephiroth, Angeal got them by way of Gillian), so why didn't Lucrecia degrade?
Because Lucrecia didn't get them like Angeal did. In the first few months of pregnancy, the mom's body does all the heavy lifting for the baby's body when it comes to biological processes. Especially when it comes to things like blood filtration... Simply put, what gets put into the mom gets into the baby... and vice versa. So Sephiroth and Lucrecia would have gotten the exact same kind of Jenova Cells at the exact same time.

Gillian was got her Jenova Cells long before she was pregnant. So Angeal would have gotten Jenova parts from two places. The first would have been from Gillian's own egg cell when she got pregnant... the second would be from the Jenova Cells still in Gillian. Even so... Angeal's Degradation is much, much less if an issue than Genesis's is. And only really crops up when he goes overboard...

There's also the fact that Sephiroth's (and Lucrecia probably) don't have Jenova abilities that let them mess around with copying DNA... which is the source of the degradation issues in the first place. Lucrecia in the OG says the Jenova in her wouldn't let her die when she tried to kill herself... while Gillian could do that just fine. She also talks about getting visions of Sephiroth and destruction in general. So it seems like Lucrecia (and probably Sephiroth) tend towards Jenova's indestructiblity and mental links rather than her copying ability. So no degradation as a result...

My main way of explaining stuff in FFVII with Jenova is to find something with as many parallels as possible and then use the fact that we're in a sci-fi fantasy setting to fill in the gaps. As it is... IRL science gets you more than 3/4 of the way there... Jenova and mako just make the process way smoother than it otherwise would be.

This is pretty much the Jenova Project in real life... just swap in "Jenova" with "mammoth".

And here's the kind of mechanism behind how genes can "switch on" out of nowhere...

Seriously... imagining how Jenova could play havoc with how the body works on a fundamental level is pure nightmare fuel because of how... plausible... the science behind it is...

If Shinra was looking for a virus that could... deliver... DNA bits to the host to swap the DNA out... the thing it was injected into... we have that IRL already technically. It's just not feasible to use for a varriery of reasons. And growing other cells out of Stem Cells to inject back into a body? We do do that to treat certain types if cancer! And Jenova has both of those abilities wrapped up in one neat little package...

I'll check all of this out later, thanks!

Trust me.

You'll want to play Dirge next.

Especially since you technically played the Compilation out of "sequence" so when a certain something happens in CC, I'm gonna be very curious to see your reaction to it. :monster:

You'll need to see what happened after AC after all. It's all connected.

Be prepared to whip out an actual PlayStation 2 for when you play Dirge. Even with a god-tier computer it is likely you won't be able to play Dirge of Cerberus on emulator while still keeping a reasonable game speed. Using the GS plugin renderer that most accurately emulates the game you'll be playing at half the speed usually (constant slow-motion = not fun), but if you use a renderer that allows for high framerate you'll be experiencing a ton of graphical glitches (like half the screen being glitched and/or missing).

The console game is compatible with mouse and keyboard so if you have m&k with USB cables it may actually be worthwhile to hook those up to your PS2. In my opinion controlling Vincent is slightly more satisfying with a PS2 controller but the actual aiming is an order of magnitude more pleasing (and easy to control) when using a mouse.

I've been made aware of the horrors of PS2 emulation.

I'll give it a shot, but if I just can't hack it I'll probably just watch a playthrough, ya know? I know Maximilian Dood has one up (and I also know that he kinda hates DoC but, eh, whatever)

Maybe I'll pick up a used PS2, I dunno.

Damn, is DC really that graphically and CPU intensive?

LOL watch a commentary-less walkthrough first, if you go that route. It'll be better for you so you at least experience the story for yourself and make your own verdict. At the very least try to get the closest to an actual game playthrough experience you can so the story at least can present itself to you.
