FFVII REMAKE CONFIRMED

My pal Suzaku (who for all intents and purposes may well be a PROPHET here) suggests the way they treated this trailer as "Looking back at past events" suggests the possibility this Remake may take a route or perspective that is "fresh" despite being an actual Remake.

Basically we could see extra content possibly like hints to:

Before Crisis
Crisis Core
Advent Children
Dirge of Cerberus

Here's hoping that's true.

Some stuff, like the whole Wall Market sequence may have to take a different approach for example, so we can't expect a perfect transition. Since this isn't going to take a full SD approach I don't think.

I do wonder about some of the things they could get away with with blocky graphics that will change in realistic HD.

I'm not just talking about some of the comedy, although there's that too.

But like, that one scene where Cloud literally beats Aerith at the temple of ancients, like, will they censor that? Because so many people missed that their playthough (I didn't notice until YEARS later), and that could potentially be one of the more emotionally brutal things to be on screen.

It just occurred to me...ever since that PS3 tech demo happened, SE has always been teasing us with VII and saying shit like "A remake at this time is not planned", "if there was enough interest for a remake", "when we make a game that surpasses VII's popularity" and giving us shit like a port of the PC version and mobile games... (I feel like at one point I (or someone else) might have said something along the lines of "hey, what if SE has been secretly working a remake all this time just to troll us later on?")

and now here we are, a decade after the PS3 tech demo we have remake on our fucking hands and all I have to say now is...

...Just how long have they been planning this?!?!?!!?

i think it's going to come down to a ratings battle. in the same way movies attempt to stay pg 13 to reach a wider audience, they might try to keep ff7 the teen rating it got away with all those years ago. but with the detail that comes with modern games half the shit they got away with back then would def give them an M rating now, which makes it harder to sell to teens, so who knows.

at the very least i hope the team replayed the game before remaking it so they could at least keep the spirit if they do have to cut things out

Hey, looks like I might have a reason to start posting here again.

First impressions are that it looks like a reimagining, at least aesthetically. Familiar, but definitely new. The designs are clearly a bit different from the original FFVII, and even the Compilation entries.

I suppose it's also fair to assume that this won't be just a remake, since SE doesn't really work that way. If they're taking the time to build all new assets for a full remake, you can bet that they'll be making full use of them with other titles.

The tone of the trailer is definitely one of reflection, looking back on the events of the original. Which definitely makes sense, as it's a remake, but... the narration feels in-universe. Honestly, it almost seems like a trailer for a sequel, until it's made clear that it's a remake.


Well, whatever. I have to imagine that the target release date is 2017, for the 20th anniversary. It's now pretty obvious that this is the reason Nomura stepped down as director of FFXV, and since they're not building a completely new game from the ground up the development should be relatively speedy. KH3 might end up getting lost in the shuffle, if anything.

I wonder how long we'll have to wait for real details? Press releases just recently went up, but they consist of nothing more than the working title (FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE), the key staff, trailer, a couple screencaps from the trailer, and a promise of more info...

For a minute and 50 seconds there, I legitimately thought that SE had been working on a VII remake and keeping it hush hush and under the wraps for the past few years so that they can reveal a complete PS4 remake as a surprise.

Because all of FF7's main fans are in their 20s and 30s, I think they should just go for rated M and keep everything. However, they will probably shot for Teen. That said, Teen ain't what it used to be. The Uncharted series has blood, an UNBELIEVABLE amount of death that you cause with guns, and says "shit" like it's going out of style. So staying in Teen doesn't NECESSARILY mean the game will be castrated.

Also, they made Type-0 rated M, so...
