....But since when has Reno looked like an old man? OG? Since Advent Children, he's been portrayed as a young man. Like, the only way Reno's gonna suddenly look like an old man is if SE decided to do it Kingsglaive style, and personally, I didn't like the style of Kingsglaive all that much. I prefer the sleek animeish style, thank you muchly. Less Uncanny Valley in my opinion.

Yeah, the Kingslaive looked too realistic to simply be animated. I didn't like Lunafreya's look in the film. Her look in the game was much better. Like you, I hope Square isn't gonna go down that route with FFVII remake and all of the characters. Personally I think all of FFVII characters are much better looking in Advent Children, Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus(in the FMV scenes of the latter) than in any other form. Gosh, even Cloud's look in Dissidia NT is extremely close to the three other titles, both in gameplay and in the FMV scenes.

Edit: Sad news for Steve Burton fans including myself-Final Fantasy VII Remake has been taken off of his list of voicing Cloud on his profile on Wikipedia, which pretty much confirms that he's been replaced for unknown reasons at this time. So all of the English Cast of Advent Children will not return and only the Japanese Cast will return for the Remake.

I think the Compilation designs you listed look great too, but the designs for them in those games simply wouldn't work in FFVII.

Advent Children is post-crisis where everyone's further grown and independent. And honestly, isn't the remake's aesthetic an off-shoot of AC's style anyways? It's just further evolved, refined and in-game instead of just confined to a CGI movie.

Dirge of Cerberus takes place 3 years after Meteorfall, and Vincent's design there wouldn't match FFVII at all. It's fucking awesome but...Vincent in FFVII is fresh out his coffin. The cloak isn't even tattered yet. He would not look that stylish after sleeping over 30 years in a fucking coffin. :mon:

Cloud in Dissidia NT is a totally different style that'd completely clash with FFVII's aesthetic. Dissidia's style is uber-fantastical and for lack of a better word, beautiful. Like, it would be a too much, even for me. That series is heavily inspired by Amano's style and character designs for all FF characters. So basically you'd be throwing Cloud's Amano look into Nomura and Nojima's contemporary techno-fantasy aesthetic style. It wouldn't match. Hell, Cloud's look in Dissidia is just his classic FFVII outfit unless you're talking about his 012 appearance which is Amano 100%.

Well, the designs from the Compilation has always been what I pictured FFVII would look like and I really love them.

Well I mean, that doesn't make sense. AC and DC aren't FFVII :mon:

They take place after FFVII and reflect the characters after their respective character growth and adventure.

I'm not quite understanding the expectation you're having unmet here. The FFVII Remake style is derived from the aesthetic introduced by AC. It's realistic, attractive and inspired by the striking anime-esque designs of Nomura. It's only updated and given a further boost to its realism thanks to being a fully designed PS4 game. So like, what's the issue here? Were you expecting to actually see them in their AC outfits or something?

If so, I wouldn't lose all hope. I'm sure that'll be an accompanying DLC package down the line :mon:

AC and DC are in the same universe/world as FFVII and they have the title, just added on extra titles with the same characters with upgraded looks. So they are still FFVII, and as you said, take place after the original game.

And I was kinda hoping to see them in AC outfits at least in a new added ending in the Remake, like short cut scenes that take place between the after the final battle and before AC.

Though now that Wikipedia just confirmed that Steve Burton isn't voicing Cloud anymore since removing FFVII Remake from his list of Cloud Strife roles, that and any hopes for hearing Steve in the Remake and future appearances of Cloud now was thrown and smashed right out of the window. Just have to wait now for Steve to confirm it and for Square Enix to confirm who Cloud's new voice actor is. So I'm not having high-hopes for AC being put as DLC either.

Advent Children as DLC would be cool, but not as cool as On The Way To A Smile DLC.

But seriously, I prefer this art style so far. It'll be interesting to see how they manage to incorporate Red XIII.

I don't think an Advent Children DLC is needed since it's been made already, and edited with new cut scenes added in Advent Children Complete on Blu-Ray, though they might do an edition package that comes with the film. On the Way to a Smile DLC definitely needed, and even a CG film of FFVII: The Kids Are Alright-A Turks Side Story since that has potiental to at least be a movie, or a game with Evan Townshed as the main protagonist and optional cut scenes with the Four Turks playable.

Looks like I stand corrected, Beau Billingslea confirmed on his Twitter (first tweet in four years) that was not his voice in the teaser. Shame (if it’s not a placeholder and indeed a recast) I was looking forward to Beau Billingslea getting to do Barret’s more pathos filled scenes.

EDIT: Took a look at George Newbern’s Twitter

Evidence of it just being placeholder voices? (Newbern’s also made a bunch of other ambiguous meaning emoji responses to further inquiries).

So are they placeholders? Or have the voices changed? There are no real answers around at all!

I'm gonna say the latter, since it's been two years since they stated that the voice acting was almost finished, or sometime last year at least. As much as I wish it was just a placeholder and that most of them would be back, it's becoming sadly clear that all of the English voices of the characters have been replaced. Meaning no Beau, no Steve, no George, and that means nore Rachel for Tifa either....and despite him having reprised his role as Lea/Axel in KH3 and that he had been looking forward in reprising his role as Reno, no Quinton Flynn...:'(:'(:'(

I don't think so, Tasha.

If they were uninvolved and their voice talent was not utilized for the FFVII Remake, there would be no reason whatsoever for them to be tight-lipped about it. It's not their work, they are not apart of it.

When an actor who was in a previous film doesn't return for the sequel, he says it right up front and moves on with life. When RE2 Remake was out and people asked if Alyson Court was coming back for Claire, she was up front and said no. Same thing with Steve Burton when asked if he was in KH3, and he just honestly said no.

I think there's more to this than meets the eye. Steve Burton has tweeted out several times in the run up to this trailer he was reprising his role. If that changed, I'm pretty sure he'd say something by now. He'd at least take calling himself "the voice of Cloud," down from his twitter profile.

These very well might be place-holder voices for this trailer, to hide the lines of the final game and are still in post-production or something. It's either that, or there's some bizarre NDA shenanigans going on that S-E has set up to... Prevent individuals from revealing they're not on board a project when they.. Aren't?

The latter doesn't make much sense to me. The former however, does.

That's not really true. That's a bad correlation.

Not sure about Barret, but the new Cloud sounds far superior than Steve Burton's Cloud. I'm really happy with the change.

But would Square Enix (or any game company for that matter) use placeholders for a trailer? Why would they even need to? It's not like the trailers are going to show everything the characters say, just a few lines here and there.

Unless they are the original voice actors, but they have been directed to voice the characters much differently?

Either way, I like the new voices as well as the original voices. I just want to know who the voice actors are.

Edited for missing a word in the second to last sentence.

Yeah, well, Hayden had absolutely no clue she wouldn't be reprising her role as Kairi for KH3 nor was even asked to do so either, and while she did have life issues after giving birth to her first child, I think she had by then bounced back a little to reprise her role in a Live-Action TV series she'd starred in. So it's not out of place that all of the Advent Children cast ended up in the same situation she had.

Some people may like the new voice actors in the Remake, but I don't. But that's my opinion.

There's no confirmation that it's not a recasting either, though. I just have this strong feeling that Square decided to just forget about the old English Cast and go with new ones without informing them. It just feels like they want to forget the past like how VIZ Media redubbed the Sailor Moon Anime and leaving the DIC voice acting cast into the darkness to be long forgotten like the late 1990's English Dubbing never existed(and I grew up with the DiC English voice actors).

I think that right now, there's no confirmation either way. They could have been recast, or they could have not been recast. Hopefully we'll find out soon, but until then, all we can do is speculate.

This could be similar to when Quinton Flynn claimed he hadn't recorded for KHIII when he must have. I'm not sure they've changed, I think it's just a difference in direction. I wouldn't have thought they were different if it hadn't been pointed out to me. It's probably just a way of keeping us in suspense until E3.

You had strong feelings about characters being killed off in KH3. You kinda tend to jump to the worst case scenario.

The idea that these could be temporary lines seems crazy to me. Not entirely impossible, but whyyyyy though?

The Japanese cast is intact. There's only a few English lines so if even if for some reason they hadn't recorded the lines/the lines in the trailer are different from the game, they would get that done with the actual voice actors. They did it with the other trailer.

When they make a trailer without the established voice actors, people gonna notice and lead themselves to logical conclusions.
