Alright, so some big(-ish) news. The Redditor mgarsf has very helpfully begun translating from the "History of Eos" timeline in FFXV's Scenario Ultimania, and has provided the Japanese text of the same:

https://www.reddit.com/r/FFXV/comments/5l54gy/spoilers_the_history_of_ffxv_from_scenario/

This is excellent, since even the best photograph I have seen of those two pages so far, while mostly clear, was insufficient for deciphering everything.

You'll notice when comparing against that image link that mgarsf didn't go over the ルシスとニフルヘイム——戦争の歴史 ("Lucis and Nibelheim — A History of War") section. I may do that later myself, and probably will, seeing as I unfortunately need to redo the rest of it anyway. I've noticed some mistakes in mgarsf's translation, as well as a seemingly deliberate (based on their own comments) mistranslation of one part.

For example, they have rendered 六神が世界に常駐 as "The Six watch over everything." It's not quite what the text says ("The Six reside in the world"), but since 常駐 is what you would use when speaking of permanent deployment in the military, close enough and fair enough.

But then we get this:

—ノクティスがシガイ「マリリス」に襲われ、瀕死の重傷を負う
—"Noctis is infected by the Scourge. Nearly dies."

Waaait, what? That should be "Noctis is attacked by the daemon Marilith, and receives a severe injury."

Someone tried to correct mgarsf on it downthread, but it didn't take:

105riri
Uhhmmm, no wait a sec. Shigai is just the Japanese term for daemon.
ノクティスがシガイ「 マリリス 」に襲われ、瀕死の重傷を負う。 TL: Noctis is attacked by the daemon Marilis and sustains life threatening injuries
Noct nearly died because the naga lady slashed him with her swords (also shown in Brotherhood).

mgarsf
Daemon's are the physical manifestation of the plague/scourge. To be wounded by one is to become infected by the virus. This is shown in the game. It's spoken of in the game. If he hadn't been infected, Regis would have had no reason to take him to Silva. He could have saved him in Insomnia. Shigai is used throughout the guide when referring to the plague (disease of the shigai).

105riri
Well yeah, I, too, was suspecting that contact to daemons could possibly lead to an infection. My point is: it doesn't say he gets infected, it says he's attacked by a daemon. Imho everything else is just our interpretation of why they brought him to Tenebrae for treatment.

mgarsf
Given that Tenebrae is an entire continent away and the trip would have been insanely dangerous it's unlikely they'd have sent him unless they absolutely had to and the only real reason I felt made sense (even after watching Brotherhood) would be if he was infected and actually needed the Oracle's gift.

I don't want to speak ill of mgarsf any more than I wanted to of SuperEspresso, as this is all very helpful, but SuperEspresso's (SE? :awesome:) mistake with the whole Ifrit thing was an honest mistake. This is knowingly changing something up while trying to justify it with a second inaccuracy -- "Shigai is used throughout the guide when referring to the plague (disease of the shigai)." No, "Shigai" is, as 105riri said, just the Japanese version of the game's term for "daemon," and the scourge is referred to right here in this same timeline twice with the same word it's referred to with in the game (病).

So, let's be thankful to mgarsf, but let's also not defer to their translation of this timeline. :monster: I'll begin my own translation of this soon.

Damn. Nice!

I didn't bother translating any of it since it seems like known information and regular stuff. I may hit that ravus personality description though since it's been asked for a lot.

The history of eos page id also like to do but I'd like the other companion page with it. Looks like someone else is doing it as well but it doesn't sound right?

Is there another page on Eos's history beyond the two with the timeline? It looks like the timeline pages are pg. 38-39, and then the sections on each country begin on pg. 40.

Maybe we're missing something, but I think we've got all there is right now. If an Ultimania Omega comes out down the road in a few months (there will almost certainly be one after the DLC episodes for each of the guys is out, I imagine), there may be more to look forward to then.

Nah there has to be more than that alluded in the following pages. It has information about things that I haven't seen discussed, which would only make sense if there's more coming up. I agree there will definitely be an ultimania omega, but I think at this point I just need to get my hands on a physical book to be sure of stuff. It's out of order how I'm getting stuff and can lead to some pretty terrible mistakes if read wrong.

A friend says there's some "weird" stuff in her copy, but I haven't seen anything of it yet. Waiting patiently.

So the guide tells us that Prompto's father is
Verstael, the Niflheim experimented responsible for the MTs and daemon experiments

I've stumbled upon another theory about his mother which is....interesting to say the least.
Who remembers that Naga you talk to when going after Ramuh?

From Reddit said:
PLEASE DON'T READ ON IF YOU HAVEN'T AT LEAST FINISHED CHAPTER 13.

First, let's get this straight, Prompto's biological father is Verstael according to the official guide.

So I came across an amazing theory about Prompto's mother here.

Seeing as their blog theme makes it difficult to read, I'll post it in quotes here:

Nifilheim breeds humans like livestock to use in their experiments. These humans are branded and numbered at birth. Probably categorized too maybe Idk. So Prompto has this bar code tattooed on his wrist. A key code that can open doors in Nifilheim bases. I always wondered why he always wore that ugly wristband… And now the bracelets but those are cute so I didn’t really question those. He probably has some markings on his arm too. An ID number maybe? That would explain the bandana. We all know it was hiding something. Prompto was born to be turned into a daemon. He somehow escaped the base as a baby or a toddler. He was with Noct in elementary school at age 8, so he must have been too little to remember. I hope his DLC tells us wtf happened and how tf he got into Lucis, Insomnia too of all places damn. So that explains why he had a sad and lonely childhood living alone, no family, no friends, living off of fast food because he can’t cook and it’s cheap so he got fat (I relate rip), and not having a chance to develop or learn any social skills. Thus him being far too nervous to approach Noct when they were kids. Back to the main theory I want to discuss. I am honestly surprised no one has made this connection yet… But I see how it could be very easily overlooked. There is a boss fight in a certain familiar cave we all know. Fociaugh Hollow. We need to go find Ramuh’s totem or whatever, that’s cool. We’ve been in there before in a certain wonderful demo. However, something is very wrong here this time, and it is way more significant than we think. The Naga. She’s a daemon created by Nifilheim, as are all of the daemons. She was once a human… Being breeded… Before being horribly experimented on and transformed into a giant snake daemon. Why does that matter, hmm? Because she says something very, very interesting. She says “My baby…” and grabs, who else? Prompto. She rips Prompto off of the cliff, claiming he is her baby. Is that really what she meant? Possibly. Was she just angry at the intruders? Probably. However, she continues with the weirdly specific dialogue with the boys. She asks Noctis, “My baby… Where?” Now, this might not seem significant, but it’s the answer options that make it so. Noct can answer with “I don’t know”, or “I know where.” Maybe he just wants to bluff to get out of it. Maybe. However if you say you do know where, she immediately claims that you stole him from her. Why would you steal a baby Naga? Why wouldn’t she think “oh you know where he is? Can you bring him here/take me to him?” Maybe because she’s a mindless killing machine? No. She knows where her son is. She wants him back. She misses her baby. She is not just a mindless, heartless killing machine at all. The human who lost her baby is still in there, crying out for her son. Of course, these boys have no idea that’s even the case or that turning humans into daemons is even possible at this point. At this point in the game, they still have no idea where these daemons are coming from, and they still think the MTs are just machines, not daemons inside electronic exoskeletons. Prompto has no clue either. He doesn’t know his mother could be a daemon now. He’s just panicking and freaking out that a giant slimey snake monster just ripped him off of a cliff in a dark scary cave. But that daemon could very possibly be, and probably is, what has become of Prompto’s mother. And the saddest part is, she knows. She knows full well. She recognized him. She knew that was her baby. She knew (assumed) Noct took him from her. When really neither Noct or Prompto have any idea at all who she really is or what happened to her or baby Prompto. She was sad. She wanted her son back. And what’s even more sad? Her son was the one who ended up killing her.

TL;DR basically, the Naga you fought in Fociaugh Hollow could be Prompto's mother who turned into a daemon and that is why she asks for her baby and why Prompto was taken by her.

If this holds true then it makes me appreciate Prompto's character more. It's tragic to know that he might have killed his own mother and never know it. His father was a researcher for the Empire and experimented on his own son. It can explain why his parents were never around in the Brotherhood anime and why he's a technophile that can use firearms and machinery. His past is so depressing when you think about it and even though he struggles with internal issues about his self-esteem and origin, he's still the one who cracks jokes and keeps everyone smiling with his cheerful attitude. He's an amazing character. I just wish they touched on this more in the game. Why is his real father not mentioned in the game, but it is in the guide? Hopefully in the DLC they flesh out his past more.

Now I know this theory is a bit of a stretch, but it's interesting and logical nonetheless.

Obviously there's little in the way of confirmation but...it is interesting regardless.

I assume
Verstael is his father in the way that it's his DNA going into the test subjects, or perhaps even just that he is the one who 'engineered' Prompto/The Daemon process.
I'm hoping for more about this stuff in an Ultimania.

I've seen this theory about
Naga
, and while the encounter is very... suspect, I'm not completely convinced. I dunno. Just kinda weird. Certainly possible though!

History of Eos
The history of FFXV's world can be roughly divided into the "ancient calendar" era when the gods were active, and the "modern calendar" era centered around mankind. The story of this work begins shortly before the signing ceremony of a ceasefire agreement is to be carried out in the modern calendar year 756.

Main Events of the Ancient Calendar Era (A.E.)
Ancient Times/Age of Myth

•The ancient civilization Solheim thrives
•Its prosperity as a technological civilization includes airships and Magitek Armor.
•The Six reside in the world
•The gods' Great War of Old breaks out due to Ifrit's betrayal
•Solheim is destroyed
•As those chosen by divinity, some humans with unique attributes (special abilities) hold political authority
•Along with political power, the "King" has such powers as being able to summon weapons, and the "Oracle" has powers such as the Covenant and healing.

•In addition, the Oracle possesses the ability to converse with the gods, establishing a dialogue between The Six and mortals.
Approximately 2000 years ago
•A plague spreads due to a parasite; the population drops sharply
•The Crystal and the Ring of the Lucii are brought from the gods, who went to sleep; the King at that time founds the Kingdom of Lucis
•The gods forge the Ring of the Lucii, give it to the King of Lucis along with the Crystal produced by the planet, and command the royal family to protect the Crystal.
•The Kingdom of Lucis constructs 12 humanoid statues
•The 12 statues were made as caskets into which the souls of the dead kings come to reside. Within these caskets, the successive generations of kings continued awaiting the emergence of the "King chosen by the Crystal." In addition, these statues have the role of protecting the Crown City as the Old Wall (Knights of the Round).
•The plague is suppressed through the efforts of the Lucian king

Approximately 2000 years ago to 755 years ago
•The world stabilizes and several nations are founded
•In successive turn came Tenebrae, governed by the Fleuret Oracle family; the communal alliance of Accordo, with its parliamentary system and commercial prosperity; and the Niflheim Empire, where the Aldercapt family sought to reconstruct the ancient civilization.
Main Events of the Modern Calendar Era (M.E.)
First year of the Modern Era (755 years ago)
•The four nations of Lucis, Tenebrae, Accordo and Niflheim establish a common calendar

M.E. 358 (398 years ago)
•The Niflheim Empire initaties military aggressions

M.E. 359 (397 years ago)
•The Niflheim Empire conquers Tenebrae territory to within sight of Fenestala Manor, wherein reside the Fleuret family

M.E. 501 (255 years ago)
•The imperial army discovers daemons, mysterious creatures they treat as a new lifeform

M.E. 606 (150 years ago)
•The Niflheim Empire commences aggressions against both Lucis and Accordo
•The outcome of this war is that the allied forces of Lucis and Accordo are defeated. Lucis takes the measure of erecting a second Wall around the circumference of its Crown City, Insomnia. In addition, as the existence of the first Wall is generally a secret, the second Wall comes to be referred to simply as the Wall.
M.E. 722 (34 years ago)
•Ardyn Izunia enters the Niflheim Empire. He proposes the development of the Magitek Troopers

M.E. 723 (33 years ago)
•The Niflheim Empire begins mass producing Magitek Troopers

M.E. 725 (31 years ago)
•[2/22-4/1] The Kingdom of Lucis and the Niflheim Empire are at war
•Lucian King Morse (Noctis's grandfather) -- being pushed back and defeated by the imperial army, who introduced the Magitek Troopers to the battlefield -- is forced to take action in light of the Empire's troubling advance. He is able to resume resistance with renewed intensity by scaling back the Wall, which had enclosed the general Cavaugh region outside Insomnia, to just the city's ramparts. Regis, who was prince at that time, was fighting on the front lines alongside Cid, Clarus, and Weskham, but withdrew because the Lucian army was defeated.
M.E. 729 (27 years ago)
•Morse, Lucis's 112th king, dies. Regis, the 113th king, is coronated

M.E. 732 (24 years ago)
•Lunafreya is born in Tenebrae
•At the same time, Gentiana begins residing with the Fleuret family.
•Regis marries his childhood friend, Auraia

M.E. 736 (20 years ago)
•[8/30] Noctis is born in the Kingdom of Lucis

M.E. 741 (15 years ago)
•Regis is informed by the previous kings of Noctis's destiny
•Regis establishes a personal defense squad, the Kingsglaive

M.E. 744 (12 years ago)
•Noctis is attacked by the daemon Marilith and receives a severe injury
•Fenestala Manor is set ablaze in an attack by the Niflheim Empire. The Oracle Sylva dies
•The Niflheim army attacked the palace, targeting Regis, who was staying in Tenebrae for the purpose of Noctis's recovery. Amidst the tragic unfolding, Lunafreya's mother, Sylva, lost her life. Moreover, this event was publicly treated as a simple accidental fire.
M.E. 745 (11 years ago)
•Shiva, the Glacian, awakens in the Ghorovas Rift of the Vogliupe region, and attacks imperial territory
•The imperial army fought back and killed Shiva. The imperials lost the majority of their forces, and so began developing Magitek Troopers that would specialize in opposing gods.
M.E. 748 (8 years ago)
•Lunafreya, who was under imperial surveillance, is inaugurated as the youngest Oracle in history (16 years old)

M.E. 755-756 (one year ago to the present)
•The Kingdom of Lucis and the Niflheim Empire agree to a peace treaty signing. Noctis and Lunafreya are announced as engaged
•Shortly before the ceasefire signing, Noctis departs from the Crown City, Insomnia, along with Gladiolus, Ignis and Prompto, and heads for Altissia in preparation for the wedding. Regis's intention is for this to allow Noctis to escape from the country. Regis, who recognizes that the Empire's intentions with the treaty are merely ostensible, secretly plans to counter them.
M.E. 756
•[5/16] The Niflheim army attacks Crown City Insomnia on the day of the peace treaty signing ceremony
•Regis entrusts the Ring of the Lucii to Lunafreya, and is then killed by General Glauca.
•[5/17] It is reported that the Crown City, Insomnia, has fallen
•At the same time, the deaths of King Regis, Prince Noctis, and Lady Lunafreya are reported.

Yeah, that was the set of translations that were highly questionable. They probably did a solid job on 90% of it, but where they dropped the ball, they dropped it big.

Thanks, SuperEspresso, for the Verstael pages. So it was the Piggyback guide that offered the explicit statement about him being
Prompto's biological father
? I wonder why that's not in the Ultimania too.

Like Ryuman, I suspect this just means that he uses
his own DNA for the process. It's not for nothing that the relationship flowchart specifies "biological father" even though Prompto doesn't have an adoptive father on the chart, and seeing as Noctis's link to Regis says simply "father."

My next post, by the way, will be my own translation of the entry on the gods. I'm mainly just doing it for the sake of being thorough with the lore stuff.

Yeah, that's all I have on it. It isn't really mentioned on Promptos pages either, which is strange all things considered. It does say he was
adopted on his ult pages
but that's about it.

This entire thing has been such a large disappointment as far as Ultimania's go. I think square was the one that really dropped the ball.

Assuming the bit about Verstael doesn't end up verified anywhere in the Japanese material, it may simply be an artifact from an earlier point in development that still got included in the material sent to the Piggyback guide's staff by their SE liaison. Or maybe it's just a straight-up mistake. :monster:

Like Tets said, Piggyback makes great guides, but they do have significant story-related errors on occasion. I still remember the FFXIII Collector's Edition guide saying that Barthandelus was Lindzei!

Anyway, here's my take on the Six's entry in the Scenario Ultimania:

----
The Six ——Beings who have watched over the world since ancient times

Six gods spoken of in myth all throughout Eos. The beings who blessed the King and the Oracle with their powers, the Six are strongly linked to the Lucian royal family, having, for example, crafted the Ring of the Lucii that is inherited by generation after generation as the proof of sovereignty. As ordinary humans cannot understand their language, only such people as their messengers and the Oracles can have a direct dialogue with them. According to legend, the Taelpar Crag is related to the Great War of Old, the conflict of the gods said to have begun with the betrayal of the Infernian, Ifrit, but the full details are unknown.

The power possessed by the six gods is fierce enough to completely change the surrounding environment for a time.

The Cosmogony book talks about them both being bestowed upon the King with the Oracle, but I'm not sure it can be trusted since it doesn't contain the whole truth. (Side note- I wish there was a convenient collection of all the entries online).

Does
this document not contain them all? How many are there?

I've somewhat answered my own question here. Apparently there's one more, this one at the Taelpar motel. I can't find the text of it, though, because it seems everyone with a Let's Play upload doesn't know how to RPG, so they just walk past every nook and cranny it could be in.

If anyone is up for recording those details on a subsequent playthrough, please do so.

Holy crap, did The Twilight Mexican just link to my document? I remember printing out entire sections of your Advent Children Story Analysis on GameFAQs 11 years ago to read in my room. I guess one could say you put the bug in me to lore hunt.

Anyway, enough of that. In light of the Ultimania timeline being released, I've revamped my document. I'm also just finding Twilight's translations, so I'll be incorporating those as well. Then it'll be time to re-add references to make sure everything I'm claiming is air tight.

Hey, Twilight can you wordcheck me on this Armiger translation?

"The power for the new king is brought by the souls of Lucis' kings of old. It refers to the weapons of the oldern kings (Phantom blades), enshrined in the kings tombs scattered throughout the world. Though the graves lie scattered throughout Lucis, they hold memories of a lost city where the kings ruled. It i said that this power once played a role in sealing the plagues tormenting the dead. If the power is unified and the crystal is used to release it, it can demonstrate the power strong enough to eradicate the scourge of stars."

Also with this it implies all of the kings of old were solheim kings. Interesting. Explains a lot since the old wall was before lucis.

Editing this because I wanted to throw some information here so I don't lose it since me and twilight were talking about lore in a chat earlier, and then I got into a knock-down-drag-out with my fiance over it.

The Old Wall:
  • Seemed to be right after or right around the founding of Lucis
  • Heavily implied the wall is the kings of SOLHEIM, not Lucis
  • Would have to have been kings of 'old' preceeding Ardyn, as there was no crystal power during their time.

Ardyn would have had to have built the old wall according to the game's timeline in the Ultimania. This implies that he was the one who imbued the power of the Armiger, as it's said the Armiger is specifically for fighting the scourge.

With that in mind, Ardyn was known to take in the scourge on his own and tainted himself with it. So perhaps it was after he realized what was happening that he gave himself a way to protect himself, or while he was still a 'kind ruler' he made it so that his decedents could have a way to fight the scourge without sacrificing their mortality.

Of course, there is also the option that it was his decedents that did not realize what the starscourge was, and how it was humans that had been tainted that instead wanted to wage war to wipe them out. There is also the thought of maybe the Astrals were the ones to make such a suggestion.

What we do know is that Ardyn was the first to be granted the power of the crystal, and since he holds the same ability to use the Armiger that Noctis does, the power had to come from him. We can also use this information to ascertain the kings were of Solheim, as Solheim fell during Ardyn's rule. What we don't know is what happened directly after the city fell, leading to the crystal rejecting Ardyn and for what reason besides taint.

Just throwing down some stuff so I remember it in the morning :)

This is what I ascertained from that passage (I also decided to incorporate the terms used in the official localization):

----

The Power of Kings ——The mighty ability bestowed to modern kings

The power of newer kings is derived from the spirits of the line of kings. Essentially, this refers to the Royal Arms (the Armiger) of the ancient kings enshrined in the Royal Tombs scattered throughout the world. Most of the Royal Tombs are located within Lucis, but they are occasionally, if rarely, found constructed in foreign lands. Weapons favored by those of the royal line house special abilities, and they once also had the function of sealing out daemons in the vicinity of the tombs. Still yet, if the combined Power of Kings and the Crystal are unleashed, they should exhibit power enough to eradicate even the scourge eroding the planet.

[caption on screenshot of Noctis acquiring one of the Royal Arms]
Obtaining the Power of Kings is also a duty assigned to a king. As he acquires the power within the various Royal Tombs, Noctis's fighting ability also dramatically increases.
----

I don't believe the Armiger is necessarily related to kings from Solheim. Based on the way the History of Eos timeline broke things down, I also think Ardyn was born long after Solheim fell. While 2000 years in the past is still ancient relative to Noctis's time, the timeline seems to me to establish a differentiation between what it calls the "Ancient Times/Age of Myth" and the era "approximately 2000 years ago."

Anyhow, I've also now done the entry on the Cosmogony:

----

[caption on screenshot of Luna and Noctis reading the book as children]

The Cosmogony ——Legends concerning the origins/structure of Eos

A book that speaks of the legends of the Six and the Oracle. In addition to the original, it has been republished in various forms, such as an annotated version and a picture book for children, and is familiar to many people living in Eos.

[caption on screenshot of Luna and Noctis reading the book as children]
While recuperating in Tenebrae during his childhood, Noctis listened to Lunafreya read from the Cosmogony.

Legend recorded in the original Cosmogony
O'er rotted Soil, under blighted sky,
A dread Plague the Wicked has wrought
In the Light of the Gods, Sword-Sworn at his side,
'Gainst the Dark the King's Battle is fought
From the Heavens high, to the Blessed below,
Shines the Beam of a Peace long besought
"Long live thy Line and this Stone divine,
For the Night when All comes to Naught." 15:2, "Nadir"

Loose interpretation: An evil that humans and gods once struggled to eliminate together will again bring Calamity to the world. The gods granted the King of humankind the Ring of the Lucii and a duty. To continue safeguarding the Holy Stone and bonding spirit to the Ring until the day the Crystal chooses its King to save the world from the Calamity.
----

"Calamity" (災厄)? As in "The Calamity from the Sky" (空から来た厄災)? Jenova?

Yeah, definitely going to say the Starscourge came in on that meteor. :monster:
