Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age

Well yeah, but their voices sound different from the others anyway, I think they put that effect on them BEFORE compressing the files.

And it doesn't prevent me from playing the game or anything, but it's still annoying. Like the whole game was recorded on a camcorder. I would have gladly played XII on 2 disks in exchange for not sounding like I'm listening to the dialogue on an 8-track :monster:

Am I the only one that never fucking noticed this tin can sound with the voices??

I mean I definitely noticed it in the music, because it has this midi-type sound to it with a few instruments, but I was never thrown off by the voices at all.

See I never really noticed it in the music, haha, but I immediately wondered why it sounded like the voice actors literally phoned in their vocals.

I've noticed it in the voices yeah. It's well known now that the audio was horribly compressed and that's why it sounds the way it does. But I think it only really stands out in a few specific scenes - I think the one I remember it being worst in is the one when they return to Rabanastre and meet in the pub after Nalbina dungeon. Pre-Bhujerba. I could be completely misremembering that though.

I'll be honest, I didn't really notice anything big with the voices or the music when I first played. :monster: I mean I did first play the game when I was like 13 and I wasn't really paying attention to how voice and music recording was, but I liked it. I did/do hear a difference with the game vs. other things, but back then I never caught on. I always enjoyed it. :D

Uncompressed voice files would be the biggest reason for me to buy it. Its a shame to have amazing voice acting translated really well, but compressed so badly.

I never noticed anything with the music until I actually downloaded the whole soundtrack and noticed how different some of the tracks were. I think the ones that are the most noticeably different (off the top of my head) are the Theme of the Empire and To the Place of Gods. And maybe Cerobi Steppe. And maybe The Forgotten Capital.

Whatever--those first two there is a very noticeable difference is what I'm getting at. :monster:

Expect some commentary of sorts from a first timer when I pick this up.

I kind of sort of really enjoyed the sound quality in FFXII. In fact, I had no idea that it was technically a flaw until you guys started talking about it. It has an old-timey feel and I actually always figured it was intentional. :wacky: I'd be sort of sad if it changed. :sadpanda:

Also...2017 is going to be occupied by FFXV gameplay. I wish TZA would come out like yesterday. :sadpanda:

About 20 minutes until the presentation for The Zodiac Age starts, and they're playing the remastered score for the game while we wait!

The new Rabanastre theme sounds so fucking beautiful I can't even

!!!!!

Alright, so no release date for Zodiac Age yet, but all in all, it was an enjoyable stream to watch, despite the fact that I could not understand a lick of what they were saying. I loved what I heard of the remastered music, and they highlighted the gameplay in the Lhusu Mines with the speed mode and the map overlay.

And I have a feeling Vaan's VA may have screamed 'Don't listen to Ondore's lies!' or something of that ilk at the end of the presentation. :closedmonster:

You could tell that Producer Hiroaki Kato is still enthusiastic about this game ten years later, so that was enjoyable to see.

Any hope that there will actually be options to put Summons on other characters if you change your mind later in the game? Or an extension on the Summon time limit?

Nah. Even the international version is one character per Esper, although they make it more difficult in that, because you choose your character's classes, each Esper unlocks different licences for different classes. Sometimes the choices are pretty hard.

Really? I didn't know that. I don't suppose FFXII goes against type here and makes any attempt at explaining that/giving you some means of planning?

Outside of "Guide Dang-it" strategy guides, I don't think it does.
