Final Fantasy XIII Spoiler Thread (SPOILERS)

You are right there, Glaurung! It was Barty, so... probably it's just fanservice, and the fact they didn't a kid to be naked.

Case closed!

By the way, now you mention Barthandelus. Wait until you see the Spanish translation. Cocoon's not even called Cocoon, and Pulse's not Pulse! Not to mention they change the term " l'Cie " too... My God!!

EDIT: apparently, Barthandelus is a Cocoon fal'Cie, thus unable to harm Cocoon. So now I'm just at a loss.

Haven't watched the Spanish version, though I know that Cocoon was called "El Nido". As bad as it seems, it's way better than the literal translation: "Capullo". Would you imagine the name of the inhabitants? :awesome:

Naked Yaag.

Also, Jihl battle.

Oh, yes, now that's something worth of my time :awesome:

I'd prefer naked Jihl.

Wait, I didn't say anything.

I always thought they'd just leave "Cocoon" as it is... but the correct translation amuses me very much so!! Seems like "Spanish Cocoon" was named by the Pulse inhabitants, hm?

If you're curious, I'll say that you have:

Cocoon = El Nido (as you've said)
Pulse = Paals (alright, I get they wrote it like this to try get people to pronounce it right, but still)
Barthandelus = Baldanders
l'Cie = lu'Cie (again, same case as Pulse)

Oh, and I forgot another amusing one:

Hecatoncheir = Hecatónquiro

And we have no Proudclad!! It's called "El Piasa". Don't ask me why, it remains a mistery for me.

And to think I was pissed off about the change from Éclair to Claire.

By the way Alex, you gotta tell me about the changes, please *v*

I've edited my post above :awesomonster:

And indeed! I thought "Claire" was way too normal of a name for a character such as Lightning. And when I pseudo-spoiled myself today after I finished the game, I was like: Éclair? That sounds so much better!

Hecatónquiro was already used in FFIII. I don't care about this one because it's a mythological name but... butbutbutbut, "El Piasa"?

EDIT: Forget I said anything or had a tantrum, please. The name had sense after all :monster:

That's the same thought that went through my mind with that one!! I mean... uh... why?

Oh, and I ought to finish FFIII, some day. I didn't know about the Spanish version using the same name, too (and I admit I didn't know about the mythology behind it. Now I can approve it).

And to think I was pissed off about the change from Éclair to Claire.

Still don't get why people were pissed off about this. "Claire" is so much better. :(

She even looks like a Claire.

Cocoon = El Nido

"The nest," eh? I quite like that! I think they did a good job with that one.

Carries much the same meaning, and it ties nicely to Fang's comment that Pulsians were led to believe Cocoon was "a floating nest of vipers, ready to strike." Assuming they went with a similar line to "nest of vipers" anyway.

Out of curiosity, what did they call "El Nido" in the Spanish "Chrono Cross"?

I think the meaning about "Nido" is good, really. But I would have maintained the original name. As for the Claire vs Éclair thing. I like the second because it sounds more exotic, and is more meaningful (because it means "Lightning" in French, and all that).

As for Chrono Cross, I have to admit I have never played it, so I might be wrong, but I don't think there was a Spanish translated version!

Yeah but it's more commonly known as a pastry which is decidedly less badass than Lightning. I'm with Tres on that one.

It's a delicious name for a woman.

Deal with it faggot.

I dunno, I have trouble seeing Lightning eating one of those, much less being named for one.

Even French people would probably WTF at that name. Hell, I have a friend named Ciel (french for sky) and all her francophone relative make fun of her/wtf at her dad.

I looked up "piasa" on several dictionaries of french, italian and even portuguese, and nothing came up. I really hope it's a typo. See? That's the bad thing about having translators who don't know much about videogames. If they had been people who knew about the FFVII reference, I don't think they would have changed it.

I'm not amused.

By the way, here you have the article about Hecatónquiros: http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hecat%C3%B3nquiros

Claire is a very beautiful name, and I'm sure they changed it because of the pastry thing. Okay, I admit I just wanted to make fun of her name

Maybe they went with the "nest of vipers" line, but what comes to my mind when hearing "The nest" is a protecting place, a shelter.

Sorry, never played Chrono Cross ^^;

Same idea behind "Cocoon." This is from the story analysis in Piggyback's official guide:

What is the grand scheme of Barthandelus?
Barthandelus is an architect among fal'Cie, an assigner of roles, who believes that the world has fallen into ruin since it was created. He also believes that the only way to put things right is to recall the Maker, and he intends to do this through an act of immolation; sacrifice on a grand scale.

And so begins an audacious plan. Cocoon is created; a place to nurture and support human life beyond the natural realm. In contrast to the ferocity and uncertainty of Gran Pulse, Cocoon is a padise of needs met and desires served. With great ease, humans are drawn out of their ordinary place in the scheme of things to lead lives of pleasure and plenty on the new satellite.

Cocoon is a revealing choice of name. It is a protection, shielding its inhabitants, but also holding them tightly and maintaining them in a juvenile state of development while warding off all outside influences. The larva waits in its cocoon until its day of glory.

Barthandelus intends that rebirth to be a dramatic end to both, because the conclusion of the plan is to sacrifice all life on Cocoon. This is the terrible secret of the place that is home to so many, but the reasoning is brutally simple: with such a massive demonstration of death, the Maker must surely respond by returning to his creation.

See, "The Nest" is a great choice. :monster:

Is it strange that I'm not sexually attracted to Lightning at all? I'm not repulsed by her, but I see her and I'm like, "Oh, it's Lightning."

Yeah, it's only that it sounds strange after reading and hearing "Cocoon" during so many months.

Sorry, now it's properly phrased :awesome:

Given who we're talking about, it'd be strange if you were attracted to such a traditionally attractive character as Lightning and not a geographical background feature or something.
