Well, maybe it was just me but the general message I got from the movie wasPerhaps it had something to do with'if you hide the evidence well enough, your victims will move on!'that bizarre part where she somehow came back to life and got to kiss her dreamboat, but the fact that it happens at the same time he throws away evidence of his crime just makes it very iffy.
Also the father is extremely fucking creepy and plays essentially the same character in M. Night Shamalamadingdong's 'The Happening', so I had a very hard time sympathizing with him even though he did lose his daughter.
Actually I'm kind of happy both those things were kept in if only because they were also both huge points of discussion in the book as well -- so at least rather than changing it Jackson kept the story the same and let the viewers judge it themselves.
Speaking of keeping things in, I'm actually curious if they
kept in (or at least suggested) she was raped. I remember before the movie came out there was a lot of talk about whether or not that aspect would be cut or not.
And on the subject of
the bones never being found, initially when I read that part I raaaaaaaaaaaged, but, I suppose, realistically not all victims find justice -- either way, the family still has to cope.
( also Here is an excellent summary of how I felt during The Happening. "Yes, there's a cheap monster effect for you -- the wind. The only cheaper thing I can think of would be low humidity.")
