With another olympics comes a fresh batch of derpy pictures of athletes. I think photographers go out of their way sometimes to capture such.

Whoohoo our boxer won the first round, hope he can get a medal \(^_^)/

But the story about the Korean fencer is so sad... T_T

The badminton players on the other hand are acting rather evil, purposefully trying to lose to get an easier draw. That's pretty much just admitting they're losers who don't deserve to win since they're trying to avoid going up against the team they perceive to be the best.

Read another article about North Korea, everything about that country depresses me. Apparently, if they win medals they won because of the awesomeness of their leaders and get to live in luxury. But if they lose they get all sorts of punishments. I think countries who abuse their atheletes like this should not be allowed to participate.

I watched most of the swimming events last night, starting with women's synchronised diving and ending with the men's 200m breaststroke. I found it really exciting. In both the 200m breaststroke semi-finals the UK came in 1st and 2nd, so I was really excited about watching the finals tonight but I'm going to be on a plane :(.

China and Mexico had amazing divers. Also Russia screwed up the acrobatics royally, it was such a shame for the team. The US acrobats were phenomenal.

Think they got disqualified.

The fencing thing really got me angry, at this point with millions of fencers and coaches(me included) pointing out what bullshit that last "second" of the match was they're just covering their asses and pretending it didn't happen. Politics are in everything :/

WOO Norway is in a gold final!!! Bartosz Piasecki, in fencing.

lol, people on Facebook keeps calling fencing 'the curling of summer Olympics!' A few years back we did quite poorly in the winter Olympics, but the Norwegian team in curling did unexpectedly well. Fencing is not that well known in Norway, and neither was curling at the time, hence the comparison. Curling bloomed in the years that followed, so maybe fencing will be the new thing now? It does look quite cool, I must say.

Edit: Silver, woo! That was fun, even though he was sorta pwned in the middle there :)

Curling is awesome. I am not ashamed to admit I'm a fan of it. Fencing looks pretty cool too, but I haven't seen much of it.

I'm sure I'd like curling more if I understood it better. I even watched a game of it played when I was in Canada, and tried so desperately to be interested. Certainly more exciting than baseball.

I should youtube fencing some time, I can't say I recall ever really seeing it except in movies and... Happy Days...

If you're new to the sport, the right of way weapons can be confusing(sabre and foil) although for beginner watchers sabre seems the most awesome, since the sword is very piratesque. Epee is the easiest to understand because it's not right of way and the whole body is the target for each fencer, and the pace can be as fast a sabre depending on who's fencing. Foil....meh i never liked it :monster:

I was amazed by the gymnastics l2 nights ago. Although I must say, that one British girl must have bruised her crotch majorly when she landed on that beam after falling. That was very ouch to watch. Russia had similar catastrophies.

In regards to the divers, that squatting position really opens the bowels, but it looks like they're really forcing it, which is counter-productive because it tenses the muscles :closedmonster:.

China's always had government-secluded/funded Olympics athletes programs for a while now, :monster:

I've seen quite a few docos on it; it's all a big business and parents in families often push their kids to do it simply because it's a possible avenue of success.
The culture is part of the problem, unfortunately, but I'm personally mixed about the way Minxia's parents handled all that. There are two sides of the argument and it's difficult to say for certain that there was some sort of ill-intent involved.

We might actually win a medal in this Olympics, we have 2 boxers heading into the quarterfinals, if they win they will secure themselves at least a bronze medal and we have the favorite heading into Monday's Men's 400m Hurdles finals who might actually win the fist gold medal in our history. Of course this being us there's a very high chance we'll screw it up and end up with nothing again.

I'm severely disappointed as fuck in Australia's performance this Olympics around. We've consistently placed in the top ten throughout the past 2 decades. This time around, the majority of Australian athletes are either placing near dead-last or are barely scraping in bronzes or silvers. Barely little more than a week left and we have one gold medal. We're nineteenth on the medal tally.

I wouldn't be so miffed about it if we were consistently performing at this level, but considering the previous years it's absolutely baffling.

We should ask China if they're willing to give one of two gold medals away.
