Our boxer was defeated, well the defeat is a bit controversial since he was given penalty at the 2nd warning when it was supposed to be for the 3rd.

Aww our dreams of getting a medal after 16 years of nothing is getting dimmer. We hadn't got gold ever so yeah. I hope the remaining athletes will win...

Your Country and mine should compete together as one that way me might actually win something.

@Satsu: As far as Australia's mediocre performance is concerned, apparently (according to a Melbourne university) the negative reactions from Australian people and news media covering it is unprecedented. Back before we did well (decades ago, as you mentioned), apparently people were happy that we got silver and such. Now we consider silver and bronze a loss. Times, they do change :P.

I find it all rather interesting. I'm not too patriotic though :monster:.

Aye I was wondering what had happened to Australia, I seem to remember them being top 5 the last few Olympics'.

I had a look at the medal table this morning, it showed every single country having atleast 1 medal (a fair few with just 1 bronze), so unless they don't show the countries without any, I don't know what people are talking about above ^ What country are you, Danseru-kun?

There are only 59 countries on the medals table. There are 204 countries in the world. Work it out from that :)

Philippines, buddy. We have we hadn't got any medals for 16 years and no gold ever. If we win, it'll be big news and the athlete will become a TV star. I think we got a shot at the bronze medal at the Athens Olympics in taekwondo but many experts say we were cheated at the scoring so yeah.

What frustrates me is how we still don't focus on sports we're potentially good at. I think we have a natural talent in contact sports, especially boxing, so we should focus on that. We sent delegates to swimming and long jump which is our natural disadvantages since we're short people.

It also frustrates me that sometimes the athletes we sent are Filipino-blood foreigners like Fil-Ams who never really got in touch or even set foot to their own native land to represent the Philippine team just so we could have a chance.

Basically the same story for us, no medals in 16 years. We could be dominant in boxing unfortunately our boxers will leave after just one Olympic appearance to turn pro with delusions of making a lot of money in a dead sport so we always end up sending talented but inexperienced athletes. There's also the problem with the general disinterest in our Country in teaching children other sports that are not named basketball, baseball and volleyball and those don't even get taught properly.

Well hell must be frozen over since Andy Murray has actually won something.

If you guys didn't get a medal, you should take more to China and start up olympics breeding programs, selecting the best specimens of your peoples, letting them breed, and send their offspring to specialized, militant training camps where they are indoctrinated with their sport and where gold is their only goal in life, :monster:.

My gawd are you sure we live in different places? :awesome: Except that baseball is almost non existent here. Our boxer who won a silver medal left the sport after the Olympics and became a TV star instead. You know one of the habits of congressmen here is to build basketball courts everywhere and stamp their name on them in the guise of "promoting sports." Other sports barely get any notice at all because they're not profitable I think.

Another "sport" we're talented is pool. We really have good billiard players but sadly I don't think it will be included in the Olympics.

Awww... the Olympic committee turned down our boxing protest and refused to even review the match! Why should we be shot down like? Maybe because "oh that's just a little country it won't really be an issue if we ignore them."

It may be an island thing. :monster:

Good news and bad news for Puerto Rico: Good news the 16 years medal drought is over we finally have a medal again, the first in something other than boxing. Bad news it was a bronze because our competitor choked in the race, at least our delegation isn't coming home empty handed again which is an improvement but still wth do we have to do to finally get a gold medal and finally hear our national anthem dammit?

Happy for you buddy! :monster:

We have 3 or 4 athletes left so yeah let's see if they can get a shot. It's funny when all these other nations is thinking about topping the Olympics or getting a gold when little ones like ours just want at least a single medal. ^_^ Yes, it's the participation that counts but winning kinda gives hope to the whole nation because it kinda proves that we are something too.

With all your discussion about your countries not ever getting a medal, I feel kind of guilty in saying "finally, Australia got another gold", but I shall anyway. I guess, in a way, it shows how much a sham the Olympics is. Does it really mean anything when an athlete with favourable factors (better resourced and advantageous genetics) wins over another with less favourable factors if they both put in as much effort? I don't think so. I'm sure athletes don't think about that though :awesome:. It's all "me, me me. I did it", when in fact a lot of luck is involved.

Well you shouldn't feel guilty man, it's not your fault our Countries suck in the Olympics and don't promote sports properly.

Here's hoping you guys break the drought too. For me the gold medal would mean our national anthem being heard by people all over the world which is something I find very special.

Thanks :D Makes me remember that everytime Pacquaio fights, our national anthem is heard in the world. However it sucks that half of the singers who sung them tried to impress the crowd and did all sorts of shenanigans. It's actually illegal to stylize the anthem and it's more disgraceful when the singer fails the attempt. Our singers are really good but sadly the ones sent to sing the anthem risked our reputation.

Anyway I'm sure if pool is included, I'm sure we would have won a gold by now hehe.

@ GhostX

Agree. I'm actually happy enough to see so many nations in a single parade, it makes me feel the spirit of unity and makes me forget the bad stuff happening in our world. Also, stories like that of the single-handed pingpong player, the double amputee runner and the Muslim girl who participated despite being ostracized by their culture are very, very inspiring.

Force - That's Javier Culson, he's the one that won the bronze medal, maybe if our other athletes had a Sonic the Hedgehog tattoo as well they would win something. :monster:

I laughed my ass off when that happened, poor guy.

I wince just hearing that.

But anyway, Australia's been picking up a couple of golds now. Which is obviously something to be happy about. Some of which were competitors finishing pretty badly in earlier events. :monster:
