The ones my mom watched are like that (The Korean dramas) lol
And I just remembered, one shoujo I watched that aired from Dec last year to Jan this year (but was written like a decade ago?) had an obvious romance that ran for nearly all 24 of its episodes.
The last episode was the guy finally confessing and proposing to the girl. The couple hug right before the credits -- no kiss.
I watched another just a few years before that had a forehead kiss after having the audacity to tease a kiss.
Point being, there's a reason why I doubted the GS date leaks when they first came out xD
Not even a kiss, huh. I'm not sure I've read one like that? Oh wait, Fullmetal Alchemist. No kisses, I don't think there was even a hug, but they confess at the end with a proposal.
Meanwhile I just discovered the couple from a rom-com manga I used to follow just finally had sex, so I'm catching up on that. This is the problem with people, both CA's and CT's trying to make definitive statements about how things are done in Asia, It isn't a monolith.
This is true. There are plenty of shoujo with implied or not-explicit sex scenes. I think Lovely Complex is a good example of both: the main couple get only kisses and hugs, and Koizumi freaks out about the idea of sex (with a boyfriend she's liked for three years and dated for a year). But the secondary couples were pretty much implied to have sex lives. Then there's Monkey High with a non-explicit sex scene between the main couple.
And after that we get to different genres, such as seinen/josei, ecchi, BL, GL, porn, lol. But I think my original point was that shounen/shoujo tend to be geared towards younger audiences so they're not that heavy with physicality. Edit: And I'd say FF falls more on shounen target audience than older.
I'm very much aware of that, and for the record I'm Asian. Southeast, but Asian nonetheless.
I've definitely seen the type you're talking about, as it's not an isolated case (like Horimiya, which was written years ago but was animated recently, and even that one took 100 odd chapters in the manga). From my experience, though, that wasn't the case in the 90s, which is what I was replying to. And it goes without saying, it's one person's experience.
I think I've read Horimiya manga. But wasn't there some other original version of it which was a lot crazier than the manga? Iirc, it even had something about teenage pregnancy?
Been seeing some bad analyzes about ToTP and Cloud and Tifas relationship in general lately in the cesspool that is Twitter. Considering this person thinks they did a great write up about how Cloud and Tifa is not it, i wonder how they genuinely think there would ever be anything like this between Zack and Tifa (yes this all reads like the usual bullshit of let's throw the problematic characters that get in the way of our ship together)?
I just find this bullcrap deflection so weird if you're supposed to understand these characters in the first place. Zack and Tifa did in fact meet and there was no flirting whatsoever for starters and we know how Tifa is when it comes down to any other guy and their advances besides Cloud.
The beginning of Rebirth also shows Tifa constantly flinching at Z!Cloud because he's too exuberant for her, lol.
4: Haha, we got you, Zeriths are really just Clotis in disguise!!!! and that is an argument.....somehow.
....like? People can ship multiple ships?
So basically in a nutshell they imply that Tifa is a liar in Rebirth for saying that they tried to invite him but he never joined instead.
I mean, the beginning of Remake pretty much
shows Cloud as a jerk who has to get used to/soften up to people to get along with them? And it was a kind of parallel to the situation in Nibelheim? Well, aside from Tifa's friends blaming him for the fall. You know, funny enough, Cloud starts to open up to the Avalanche dorks when they show vulnerability first. The same with Aerith in the playground.
It's probably safer and more accurate to say that they don't 100% know the story and/or the characters they're talking about. Just watched YT clips, read surface level interpretations, played Disc 1 of OG only, etc.
You know, there's a surprising number of people in fandoms who have never engaged with the original source materials but they've just watched clips, not even the whole thing but
clips, or read other people's meta who may or may not have engaged with the original source materials themselves, lol. To be honest, I find it baffling and kind of exasperating, lol. It's even more baffling when they don't even like the thing they've never watched/played/read but absolutely hate it. Like, why are you spending time hating something you haven't even watched/played/read?
Probably. Gotta say though, I think I like the HA more because the "Because we're friends" felt like a slap in the face lmao. Is it just me? The fact he doesn't look at her either is crazy to me, too. To be honest, I'm wondering why they would do that for her send-off with Cloud? Mad.
I didn't mind it actually since Aerith herself is "That's right. I'm happy to hear Cloud's feelings".
