As for Tifa not going after the kids? Give her credit for some sense. She knew Cloud was probably the only one who could do it. And he went. I would like to think that if Cloud didn't go she would have gone with the Turks to try and save them. But we will never know. Because she kicked Cloud's ass to save their children. Two birds with one stone.
Plus we have plenty of Tifa being the mama bear. Fighting Loz and the shadow creepers. Notice she really doesn't do anything against Shin? Because her focus is the children.
Tifa shows plenty of maternal instinct.

After Loz wiped the floor with her she probably felt like a liability. She also probably wanted to use the oppurtunity to make Cloud face his fears by himself, she just had the faith in him to do it.

Understand, my gripe isn't with Tifa so much as with the writer for not fully "getting it."
Though my true venom is reserved for George Lucas. The ending of ROTS is complete BULLSHIT. But that's a topic for another thread.

Just jumping a subject back to the maternal instinct thing:
As a mom (and one who also adopted her kids) I gotta say, if I SEE my kid in mortal danger, there isn't a damn thing that can stop me. For Example: This last summer we took our big boy to the beach for the first time. He got knocked over by a wave then started getting yanked back and under by a very strong undertow. Then the world went blank and next thing I know I'm soaking wet (fully clothed) standing in the water watching my sunglasses slowly float away. I looked around for my kid and found he was already in my arms and gasping for breath. THAT is maternal instinct.
And that's what I see when Tifa throws herself in front of Marlene in the church and in front of Denzel for Bahamut's blast. When you see it, when you're there, there isn't even time for thought.
But when you're not there... let's just say there's a lot more rationality and logic involved. I'm not saying I would've made the same choice as Tifa, though I likely would've stayed home if I thought I'd be a liability (granted I would've called every superpowered person I know to help out) and I obviously haven't been in that exact situation, but when my husband is around and I hear (not see) big boy cry or fall or something? Seriously, half the time I just look at him and say "your turn." If I see it? Totally different story.

Dude that topic is awesome. It's one of the few where they don't demonize (is that the right word) Tifa and bash Clotis and so on.
As for Tifa... well she just woke up... didn't know where the kids were... I mean do you expect her to just run off with no where to go? Then when she found out, Cloud went shortly after. So that's why she didn't go... I never gave it a second though *shrugs*

Honestly...no. Not really. At least if you're going to attack Tifa's intentions and compatibility as a partner, it makes logical sense (even if its wrong), because its within the context of her being a partner with Cloud in the first place.
Bringing up the filming method of the ending credits of a movie as romantic proof within the narrative is like proving evolution is false by stating that there's no way something as complex as life could spring up and evolve, without intelligent design.
That one just...makes my head spin. I'm sure FFIX's writers were that interested in shoehorning an FFVII allusion, especially since it was game they had absolutely no say or creative control over at all. Classic.
And Cloud apparently has no personality. Of course!
This all translates to them basically saying "I SEE PATTERNS WHERE NONE EXIST!! YAY CLUSTERING ILLUSIONS!!!!!"

Jumping on the mama train--as a parent I can say full well, NOTHING stands in your way when protecting your children. This is plainly evident in Tifa when she stays with Denzel as BIOLOGICAL parents scatter to the four winds when Bahamut shows up.
Why she didn't go with Cloud to face Kadaj and the gang can be interpreted a lot of ways and is never really addressed, but I think the basic reason is as stated above--the directors were more focused on keeping Cloud overcoming his personal demons center-stage, and that's a legitimate reason as far as story-telling goes.
Also, this:

How the heck is TIFA a liability? She was wiping the floor with Loz until he cheated and caught her by surprise! There's no way she'd get caught like that a second time, and this time she'd have Cloud, so they'd be a double team.
Besides, Cloud's more of a liability with his inability to get his act together--and he does, in fact, fail the first time. Vincent has to save his rear. If he'd brought Tifa with him, the double team of Tifa/Cloud fighting for their kids would have been pretty much unstoppable.
The reason I'm criticizing it is because I think this is the writers being lazy. I'm with Bella on this one. They decided to write Tifa slightly OOC (seriously, the more I think about it, the more I feel that there's no way Tifa would just sit back and wait--she's never been that type to sit and twiddle her thumbs when someone she loves is in mortal danger--plus relying on shifty Cloud who hasn't been all that particularly reliable in the past week or so is really sketchy at this point) so that they could keep up emo Cloud and make him go on his journey alone, which I still call BS on because the film should have been about Cloud overcoming things with his family and facing the responsibilities of his role in the family rather than "let's just make him look cool".
Plus, Rude and Reno tell both Tifa and Cloud where the kids are at the same time, so Tifa obviously knows where her children are by the end of that scene, just like Cloud does. I don't see why she couldn't hop on his bike and go with him, a la Bahamut scene. She'd at least be useful for a couple of "Look out, Cloud"s and grabbing Denzel and Marlene.

There's no cheating in a fight to the death with an enemy. And Loz was toying with her. Just stating the facts. She was kicking ass, but she was at a disadvantage from the start. The guy's not human and he was just fucking around with her, fighting with a handicap.
To be honest, they'd both probably fail and Vincent would just end up having to save both of them. Tifa's no match for Loz, let alone all three of them, and Cloud's suffering from Geostigma.
Injured Tifa + Superhuman enemies (Cloud going in to fight who's clearly at their level)/ Turks also searching for information while promising to come back and share what they find = Tifa staying behind.
By your logic, Tifa should've just jumped out of the Sierra while Cloud fought Sephiroth and joined in too. Was it out of character for her to trust Cloud to win against Sephiroth?
And Cloud's the main character of the game/story/Compilation. It's just a fact that the narrative is going to revolve around him. That's how its always been.
That'd make sense if she actually was a side-show through out the film...which she wasn't. At all. Calm down, please.

Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to bash Tifa here or anything, it just bugged me how she like changed her mind like that.
