Sonic Boom is honestly the only good track I love from the US version of Sonic CD. I like the original Sonic CD title track, but Sonic Boom just sounds so much more musical and coherent, to me.
But that's where it stops. The original tracks of Sonic CD possess a catchiness and relevance to the levels the US tracks kinda miss the boat on. The entire point of the game is seeing and hearing the effects of your time traveling does on the level. Like Palm Tree Panic. The music of the present features happy, cheering children which one could easily assume would be the local wildlife. Go into the good future, and the music is basically the same, except the music's on slightly higher octave and the cheering's even louder and more upbeat than ever.
Go to the bad future, and you hear the same melody. Except it's techno and flat. And the cheering children are now robotic and synthesized sounding now. Which gives the level a much more creepy and sinister theme.
I won't even go into the levels that actually have lyrics, like Metallic Madness's bad future, which basically has Eggman telling you you failed, get some help, and that you trying your best at this point is meaningless since you've already fucked up getting the perfect ending
It's those little details and bits of personality that make me prefer the original soundtrack much more. The US version has music that's good on it's own but they aren't really...Sonic.
