Heh. Those episodes are separate games to me anyway. I'm pretty sure there is no way to use "lock on" like with S3&K. =P

It would be pretty amusing if they just left it at one episode, and went straight to Sonic 5, yes =p.

Sonic 4 episode one kind of flopped though, so I wouldn't be TOO surprised. But if they do, do a second part of Sonic 4, they should put it on a better console so more people can grab it. The 3DS sounds like a good idea. <:

Sonic 4 did pretty well actually.

Anyway, news!

Today we are happy to announce that Sonic CD will debut on mobile phones and consoles everywhere! Originally released for the SEGA CD system in 1993, and included the first appearance of fan favorite characters Metal Sonic and Amy Rose. Big news for fans everywhere, Sonic CD is coming to digital platforms with music from the original Japanese soundtrack. The beloved prequel to Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I is coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade, PlayStation Network, iPhone and iPod touch, iPad, PC Digital Download, Android, and Windows Phone! Best of all, Sonic CD will be available for download in late 2011!

I'm rather excited because I nerver really owned Sonic CD. Always played my brother's copy. =p
And I refused to buy any ports because they always used the US soundtrack (which, even though it isn't bad, is just not the music I remember =P)

Also, apparently it's not just a simple port. Seems like they licensed the engine from some dude from the Sonic Retro community and it'll feature true widescreen support, two control styles (Sonic CD spindash, Sonic 2 spindash).

Also, Generations 3DS Emerald Coast:

Is it just me or does Knuckles look really derpish here?

It's about TIME! Why has it taken them so long to make Sonic CD more available?

A better console so more people can grab it? How can it come out on a better console than all of them? And screw the 3DS :monster:

Also, yeah, like Tets said, it didn't flop.

Awh, I like the 3DS >: Haters gonna hate. :awesomonster:

Sonic CD is really great, it's one of the best Sonic games out there. Minus that really creepy Easter Egg it has. / shudders.

Maybe because of the creepy Easter Egg xD I wonder whether to stay as a Sonic fan everyday because of it, it's pretty freaky.

Thank-god it's going to have the Japanese music, the english game over music and boss theme gave me nightmares ever. xD

I thought that Sonic 4 flopped ! Oh well, my mistake ! xD

As far as sonic 4 ep 1 is concerned, my issue is they built the game from scratch. It felt quite different. Surely they should be able to get the same mechanics by using a mod of some sort of the original games, and build around it. Works in my head anyway :P. That and the music was shit, and they copied elements from earlier games instead of creating new ones. Much like with movies, it seems like people have simply run out of ideas.

Good to hear about Sonic CD though. I've never played the game either, and I don't recall hearing any bad reviews.

The songs aren't very long...I think they could include all the Genesis soundtracks, but I'll take what I can get :P They're probably trying to stick to Nakamura's stuff.

TL;DR, Sonic CD now will take place between Sonic 4 ep1, and Sonic 4 ep 2.....

Actually it won't. :P

Sonic CD still has no officially set place in the timeline.

Sonic 4 is trying to bridge all of them together more. It’s not trying to give Sonic CD a concrete place in the timeline, just say that “It happened prior to Sonic 4: Episode 1.” It does not mean Sonic CD is immediately before Sonic 4: Episode 1 and after Sonic 3 and Knuckles.

everyone says it's better. But that song is unequivocally worse than Sonic Boom.

Well... imagine you are six years old and you here this during the boss music...

And this for a game over when you die...

Uhm yeah, I would be begging for the Japanese version. Granted I was 16 when I first played Sonic CD and that creepy music made almost piss my pants in terror xD

These are the Japanese versions.

Japanese versions ? Wheee let's have fun playing this awesome Sonic game !

American version ? WELCOME TO HELL.

No wonder people prefer the Japanese versions, yeah ?

Sonic Boom is honestly the only good track I love from the US version of Sonic CD. I like the original Sonic CD title track, but Sonic Boom just sounds so much more musical and coherent, to me.

But that's where it stops. The original tracks of Sonic CD possess a catchiness and relevance to the levels the US tracks kinda miss the boat on. The entire point of the game is seeing and hearing the effects of your time traveling does on the level. Like Palm Tree Panic. The music of the present features happy, cheering children which one could easily assume would be the local wildlife. Go into the good future, and the music is basically the same, except the music's on slightly higher octave and the cheering's even louder and more upbeat than ever.

Go to the bad future, and you hear the same melody. Except it's techno and flat. And the cheering children are now robotic and synthesized sounding now. Which gives the level a much more creepy and sinister theme.

I won't even go into the levels that actually have lyrics, like Metallic Madness's bad future, which basically has Eggman telling you you failed, get some help, and that you trying your best at this point is meaningless since you've already fucked up getting the perfect ending :monster:

It's those little details and bits of personality that make me prefer the original soundtrack much more. The US version has music that's good on it's own but they aren't really...Sonic.

Also, just compare Metallic Madness Good Future in the US and original soundtrack. The US soundtrack doesn't make it appear like a "good" future at all.

The music for when Metallic Madness gets a good future, sounds so celebratory and positive it's like you just fucking achieved world peace. :monster:

It's one of my favorite tracks actually, because its radically different sound matches the contrast of its good future with all the other time periods of the level.

Also, the final boss track. US soundtrack has almost no difference to the standard boss music while in the original you get this epic piece of music with the operatic wailing in the beginning and shit.

Don't get me wrong I love "Toot Toot Sonic Warrior," it's really endearing and the rap is pretty awesome. But a lot of those lyrics are just...kinda nonsensical XD

10-10 you can go again
9-9 don't fall behind
8-8 say, don't be late
7-7 destination heaven
6-5 so, stay alive
4-3 now it's you and me
2-1 we're gonna have fun say, blast off! hey!
Excalibur - it's not that far
What do you make? hey! give and take!
Goin' home - time zone - check out egg, he's never alone
Leather'n lace - getting in place
What to you get? say, fast jet!
Doom room - cosmic zoom - heads up jake
It's sonic boom

Seriously. What the fuck is this? I mean yeah, it sounds rather cool but....Yeah.

With the exception of Sonic Boom, I definitely agree the original soundtrack is better. Although I have to say I don't think either soundtrack really compares to the music in the main series. It's just so different.
