Actually, I've like to know the Chaucer reference, because it is actually a Shakespeare one :monster:

??? The Canterbury Tales ... beauteous maiden... merciless maiden ... dude I'm confused.

It was 'beateous wall' from Twelfth Night :monster:

"And though that nature with a beauteous wall / Doth oft close in pollution"

I did think "beauteous wall" was an interesting word choice, but I totally missed the reference. And I wrote my fucking senior thesis on Bill. *hangs head in shame*

Well color me retarded.

While I was googling away my literary shame I also noticed the words beauteous and merciless were used in Longfellow's translation of The Divine Comedy.

I'm a dork.

If I have accidently made a reference to Dante, I would be more awesome than I already think I am. And should read the copy I have at long last.

I thought the original quote kind of fits in with this as well, which was why I used it :monster:

I wouldn't be entirely surprised if Square Enix were making a subtle Dante reference themselves, considering they've made several less subtle ones elsewhere :monster:

Welcome back Hito, Casarbi and Fighter! Great to see you old chaps! :joy:

Hey, Hito. Enjoy ACC finally?

Are you aware Ash has already joined the forum?
And under two different names?

I'm amused by this.

And says he's not a shipper.

And claims it's open-ended.

And has it in for Hito.

And has a drive-by style of trolling.

And is in the habit of stalking our threads.

This guy really need to change it up once every few years.

Weird coincidence, I'm watching a movie which was apparently based off of the Twelfth Night.

Cookie to anybody who gets it. :wacky:

What, and actually play something other than obfuscation and the occasional well poisoning? Nah.

@Channy: Lion King! Wait...

It's on the tip of my tongue, but I can't recall the name...

She's The Man?

I background-watched that when it was one a while ago :monster:

I also have the Trevor Nunn adaptation I haven't watched yet.

I'm flattered to be such an agent of chaos that someone I don't know as far as I'm aware would check threads to see what I'm like.

Or perhaps 'Just one of the guys'

That is the one about the gal who goes undercover as a guy at her brother's school to get a massive scoop, right? Or am I simply confusing things here?

Good lord, I make a post asking for an update, and that post has fallen foul to the deluge of snark, spank and slap of several pages.. making it again pertinent to ask - for the second time in 24 hours - what the hell is going on?

>Reads<

Okay. Up to date.

Mako: I'm afraid my appearance coinciding with this little flurry of translation excitement was not planned or even a motivator in my return - in fact, it was just a mundane, unexciting omen to the powers beyond co-incidence, cause or effect. Yes, I am a sign. A neatly timed portent. I am the cock who crows three times.

...

Take what you want from that you dirty little scoundrels.

Reading this silly translation thread and as OWD says the same patterns are there. Information based on a secondary source is used to inform only to discover its not as near solid as anticipated, backed into a corner, victim card is played while a dollop of finger-pointing is actioned while the debater seeks for a dignified escape to his/her flailing argument.

Rinse. Repeat.

Note the clever use of "I can't continue this debate anymore because I have a life, lol" as well. And very unsubtle evasion of multiple uncomfortable questions.

"I AM AN AGENT OF CHAOS *troll troll troll*"

The "today is the only day I can chat with you" line is part of his M.O.

Sans you're not fooling me. I know you're behind all this somehow.

Ever notice how folks never have time to post in the forums proper, despite there being no time constraint on replying to things?

And how they still post quite often on other forums? Despite this busy social life they have, of course.

No Ryu, we're supposed to believe that Ash isn't going to be posting on any other forums either. Because that's totally credible. :monster:

I just now noticed the dead body in the forum banner.

And, for once you came back without me having to beat down your e-door! :awesome:

Not spotted that myself. Funny.

Alas, it was the notification system to your comments that awoke the cock that crows.

Having read the whole silly main page - in my humble opinion, people need to stop shilly shallying with any other response aside from "explain why beloved does not fit the translation of koibito". Because every other moment of slurry logic is buried deep beneath that single, most important question which to my inspection hasn't been answered.

Got to give Cleris their due - they are masters at evasion and diversion. The whole argument is propped on a point that really isn't been surgically explored - and you could do that op with a bloody buster sword. The wound is already wide open.

What, just now? I thought it was obvious.

But there is one other key point- secondary though it is- and that is of the style of narration.

Now then, Koibito not meaning beloved is the key point of their argument, but I hold there is a question that must be answered first, Sans.

Why is Koibito now once again Koibito, and not Koi_Bito, as they have aggregately insisted it is when written in kanji for the last several years, among other lulzy claims.

I just spent the last hour+ reading that discussion and I can honestly say I have not had such a good laugh from a troll ever.
