Re: Love Triangle Discussion

So, Ron and Hermione AREN'T a couple, then?

Because I thought they were, but they had conflict. And they're in a fantasy.
Same with Harry and Ginny. Shit. There's no love in Potter. Even Harry's parents weren't a true couple.

Spirit, those are only problems if you're sane Cloti.

Quick, someone name five fantasy couples that don't experience conflict. Any takers?

Anyone?

niether are Tristan and Iseult, Arthur and Guinevere, Will and Lyra, Lois and Clarke, Peter and MJ, almost ever single relationship in Greek myth... :monster:

Wow, I really can't think of any fantasy couple that hasn't faced some sort of problem. Even the couple in Twilight had problems. The only ones that come to mind are fairy tale couples like Cinderalla and Snow White, but those stories pretty much end as soon as the Prince appears... so it's not a fair comparison.

Then there's Anakin and Padme. He broke her heart and killed her. DEFINITELY not a couple. Hey, were did those two bebehs come from? :duhard:

Even with as little time is dedicated to the extant relationship for Cecil and Rosa they have conflict in their interactions.

Honestly, fantasy couple are just like real couples, just in different circumstances and sometimes prettier.

IIRC, did you not say they were the same person?
Clerises often use many different aliases to pretend that they "have a life".

Mirror, mirror..

You need a minimum of 18 years in England (not Scotland or Irland or Wales) to be a true native speaker

I've been to England. Most people there speak a form of English worse than us Canadians.

However their McDonalds is as good tasting as anywhere!

Make that always prettier. :P Say, are there any FF couples who have no conflict?

It's the world they inhabit that's the fantasy, not the characters' interactions. How they relate to each other, whether it be with friend, lover or foe, has to be relatable to the audience or we won't be able to connect to the characters and won't care about them. Creative Writing 101. Take it sometime. :neo:

In counterargument, Dwarven pairings. Not pretty.
Also, sometimes the men are raw butt ugly.

:P Say, are there any FF couples who have no conflict?

REAL FF couples? Fuck no! Even the side couple who get almost no screen time have some conflict. Hell, some of them are told entirely via their conflict until you manage to locate their resolution.

What, you mean that audiences need to somehow UNDERSTAND the characters via some understood commonality between audience and fiction?
Say it ain't so!

Crono and Marle seemed to get along ok. That may have had something to do with Crono being a mute though.

FF couples... Yang and his nameless wife. That's about it.

Re: Love Triangle Discussion

Fantasy couples simply do not have problems as a rule. If they do, then something is very, very wrong.

Was it Angelalex (who co-wrote that article, and I think said that before) who said that they were a theatre major or something?

Because it's statements like that which make it seems like one's never read a book or even watched a film or television.

Silly. Sex doesn't mean you love someone.

Tidus and Yuna didn't have much conflict with each other, but did have secrets. And keeping things from each other means you're not a proper couple. See also: Cloud and Tifa.

I'd love to stay and chat, but I have an exam to prepare for. I have to compare The French Lieutenant's Woman and Wuthering Heights. The latter being considered one of the greatest romance novels of all time according to a show on romance novels I saw, but God only knows why. All that conflict!

You writing a paper on people making a bitch of themselves for love? :monster:

While you do that, I'll continue watching the epitome of nonromance, Pride and Prejudice. So much tension!

(I suppose the odds of any cleriths ever joining us for a serious discussion are pretty much nil because of how bitchy this thread is, eh? lolz)

Even then they have a sort of conflict. She calls him hopeless at one point.
Ed and Anna, perhaps? Save that whole death thing and the external conflict of Tellah.

Actually, come to think of it, why the hell are Cid and Hildegarde even speaking to each other at the end of FF9, much less raising Eiko as their own?

And Bella- Not just bitchy. Snarky too. We're apparently too mean for their liking.

Re: Love Triangle Discussion

I assume I'm supposed to write about how clear it is that no one in those books (except maybe Sam and Mary in FLW, although they do have their problems/meaningless sex) are actually in love. Not even the last couple in WH, which Bronte foolishly made look all happy and good, is a proper couple. I read all those chapters where the two fought and argued. You're not fooling me.

I had to put down P&P. You say you don't like Darcy, Lizzy? Then I will carry on no further with you, book. You've already given me my answer.

Cid and Mrs. Cid in FFIII, they seemed to get alone fine the few scenes they have together. Densh and that girl, though. Not happening.

I prefer the term 'snarky', but maybe it could be toned down a bit :monster:

Seriously speaking, I love it when a couple have some problems to overcome. It makes their story interesting, it makes characters interesting.

Hoho, I dont think that Cleriths ever join our little tea party. We`re just rabid Clotis after all :duhard:

And speaking of tea...
lets not forget Cid and Shera!

You know, I'm surprised the Clerii don't reference them more often. That's the only FF instance of "prior art" they have for their arguments.

Re: Love Triangle Discussion

Since a lot of the members here come from ACF, and towards the end ACF was dismissed (at least by the C/A fans who once frequented it) as just being full of rabbit Clotis, maybe there won't be many rushing to sign up.

But as long as everyone is happy :monster:

Re: Love Triangle Discussion

The reason it was 'full of rabid Clotis' was because all the Cleriths gave up the ghost and ran away.

Because we were mean. And told them they were wrong. And then demonstrated this.

You know I sometimes wonder about this pairing. Cid was rather verbally abusive earlier in the game and Shera allowed herself to be a human punching bag. Then they get married... D:

Well, at least he named his new ship after her. But I guess Cid also comes to realize that Shera was right about the oxygen tank and that he was being a jerk during all the spaceship stuff.
