I always liked Veronica better! You made my day, nullzy!
Now what`s this KH business?
What Cloud tells Sora in KH1 is that he was looking for someone and tried to exploit the power of darkness to do so (Hades promised to help find this individual). He says he fell into darkness and couldn't find "the light", referring to this light not as a person, but something.
In addition, Aeris and Cloud have plenty of chances to find each other through Sora, yet no such thing is done in KH1. Cloud isn't looking for Aeris. First of all, we are told that Aeris is a person of neither light nor darkness, but rather a normal human being who has both inside her in balance with each other. Furthermore, why would Cloud try to manipulate the power of darkness to find a creature of the light (which we are told that Aeris isn't anyway)?
And even if we entertain that thought, and agree that Aeris and Cloud find each other at the end, why is it that Cloud looks even worse in KH2 (Donald tells Cloud he looks "different" and Cloud says that it is because of "the one who embodies all the darkness in [him]") after finding Aeris? And why is it that he is still looking for his light?
In KH2, Tifa is the one literally giving off flashes of light (which often times stun Cloud, having fallen further into darkness) and is central to Cloud's fight with the embodiment of his darkness. It is Tifa who faces off against his darkness, Tifa who surrounds him with her light, and Tifa who follows Cloud and Sephiroth to continue their fight.
In case that didn't get through people's skulls, SE blatantly state that if Sephiroth is the darkness, then you could think of Tifa as the light (leaving up to interpretation if she is a human being or somethign different). They outright state Sephiroth is the one Cloud was looking for in the first installment. They also say that the flashes of light Tifa gives off (that Cloud runs from) are meant to be a throwback to Cloud running from "something warm" that Tifa represents in AC.
Cloud was never looking for Aeris, not in AUs and not in the canon material.
He isn't looking for Tifa either. He is looking to find the light within himself to balance out the growing darkness in him (and become normal, like Aeris and others).
Sephiroth embodies his darkness like Tifa embodies his light. It's not rocket science.
Tifa already told us that Cloud needs not vaquish the darkness, only surround himself with enough light to strike a balance. Tifa is there to help him do that, like Sephiroth is there to keep pulling him into darkness.
People (pinkers) ran with the idea of Aeris = Cloud's light because they were both in the same game and as proven by their comments regarding Itadaki, Cloud & Aeris standing within a few feet of each other in a boardgame is enough proof.
When Tifa entered the picture they panicked and started backpedaling and saying things like "well, NOW he's looking for his own light, but before he was totally looking for Aeris".
BS. SE has never tried to pander to that group in any way. The opposite is true.
That's why it's hilarious that despite all their light = true love crap in the past, it is Tifa that Square decides should embody Cloud's light in Kingdom Hearts. The pinkers froth at the mouth because they just can't stand that simple fact.
