@hito: OK then it's one thing that can be misinterpreted. :P I /bow XD [TBH, I was about to ask because I thought, hey, maybe it's something that got lost in translation :monster:... I should eat, never post when I'm hungry XDDDD]. Also looking forwards the results you can have with that expression [死なぬ想い]. Maybe I should ask my own friend who lives in Japan right now to ask around [he's already helped me with another translation for another fandom :monster:]. XD And yes, he really lives in Japan [and thus, unluckily, he's sleeping right now] XD

Huh, I see. (It's interesting there are two different words for 'omoi' that have pretty similar but different meanings. I really should study Japanese more or I'll forget everything I learned. :awesome: )

I actually agree with that, MeiMei. Cloud always looked so absolutely ecstatic around Zack. <3 Which made it all more heart-breaking in the end. *sobs*

@hito: I never said he was Japanese XD I said he lived in Japan XD Actually, my father is Japanese, but I cba ask anything like that to him - he's an old geezer who was too lazy to teach me Japanese :monster:

Also, this moment when Cloud laughs with Aerith totally went unnoticed by me, haha. I don't remember it at all :wacky: That's how deep an impression it left on me :monster:

At the risk of repeating myself (but this thread wouldn't be at 500 pages if people didn't :awesome: ):

&#24605;&#12356; = can be any kind of thought. Calm, evil, unpleasant, nice, love.
&#24819;&#12356; = more emotional, affectionate.

You can use &#24605;&#12356; where you would &#24819;&#12356;, but it doesn't work the other way around. To me, &#24819;&#12356; makes things sound more romantic.

Although it doesn't really work as just evidence for C/A just because it's used for Cloud towards Aerith, because they've used it several times for Cloud and Tifa as well. Like &#24819;&#12356;&#12434;&#36890;&#12431;&#12379;&#12427; for the Highwind scene in the Ultimania Omega or Crisis Core Ultimania.

There were two versions of that phrase used for Cloud and Tifa:

&#24515;&#12434;&#36890;&#12431;&#12379;&#12427; (describing their relationship after the Highwind scene)
&#24819;&#12356;&#12434;&#36890;&#12431;&#12379;&#12427; (describing the Highwind scene itself, from both Cloud and Tifa's sides)

Japanese people I've talked to said that the first one is more an understanding of the thoughts and feelings of a person as a whole. Whereas the second is more specific, a single feeling or emotion (like "I love you"). But the other person has to feel the same, so it would be limited where you can use it, like between lovers (koibito, lulz).

Frankly, I could remember it at first either. :awesome: I think the romantic significance of that little exchange is blown out of proportion. But, if I remember correctly, the occasion is when Cloud is poking (gentle) fun at Aerith...

... which, it may be argued, he can also (optionally) do to Barret.

Anyway, as everyone knows, it's far more important to laugh with your one true love, than to care about what she thinks so much that the only thing that matters is her attitude. Especially if Jenova is pissing about in your brain.

Again, thank you hito XD Those little details fascinate me, I admit - I'm a translation-and-little-details-that-are-left-whore, like, totally.

I think the question is: are those undying feelings romantics, or simply affectionate? Of course, as a CloTi and given what we've seen, I'd be more inclined to say the last - but I've got my CloTi googles on so yeah :D

I'd say that romantic doesn't match really well with the ACC ending [I totally got the vibe that Cloud was happy that Zack and Aerith were reunited, IMHO, and that he planted Zack's sword in Aerith's bed of flowers as a remembrance of his two friends - that sounds dirty, lulz :wacky:] but then again, DoC being pre-ACC, would that mean that it has been retconned?

I'm totally lost, thanks to SE's bad habit of retconning :monster:

It doesn't mean anything. Cloud has undying feelings for Aerith in terms of affectionate friendship, and knowing her for the brief time they did. An undying feeling hardly equates to romantic ties.

I would hope you'd have undying feelings of loyalty and love for your parents. Or your brother. Or your sister. Or someone else. Romantic love is hardly the only feeling that lives on forever.

And what retcon are you talking about? For God's sakes, its only a stupid instruction manual.

Well, from what hito said, if I'm not mistaken, it sounds romantic? ._. [this is why I'm lost guyz :monster:].

So, I'm merely asking a rethoric question, since it was presented that way by KTR and other Cleriths in that very thread. It's something I was unaware of, so I'm giving it an honest time to think about it and see how it should be understood.

I'm not going on about how Cloud never loved Tifa, or how he only loved Aerith, because that's not what the game and the compilation say; I'm giving a try as "did Cloud really love romantically Aerith?" during those short days in FFVII, and do those feelings still linger, even though he also is in love with Tifa?

The retconning would only be on that tiny bit - that's why I'm asking :p

As I said it, as of now, without further indication, I see them of affectionate feelings for a friend, but I ask moar from people who can actually have answers [aka hito, or anyone else who already discussed this matter].

I may be blunt and rather harsh, but I also try to be fair XD

To me, real!Cloud has always been all over Tifa, whether he was a kid, a teen or an adult, but I'm trying to see what is behind this quote.

@Bella: it was the second, if my eyes don't deceive me.
