I don't see how people, if they really are fans of Cloud, would hate the fact that he returned to his family. Both AC and the novellas portrayed the fact that when Cloud wasn't with his family as destructive to not only his psyche, but greatly disturbed the rest of the main characters. Cloud not being with them had definitely damaged everyone, I don't see how anybody could ignore that.

He was definitely awkward and it was hard for him, but especially when Denzel was introduced, there was a definite feeling of content and fulfillment. Throughout the movie, Cloud was running away from the family and everyone was pointing out that it was cowardly. His obsession with Aerith and Zack was stopping him from moving forward, not out of love but out of guilt and depression. He let go of the memories that were destroying his family, not because Tifa said so but because he realized his will to carry on and do the right thing.

The new moment in ACC further proved how Cloud viewed his family, when he told Marlene that they were always saving him (giving him strength) and now it was his turn- his family was something he truly treasured. It's not a conventional family, Marlene has her own father and Denzel had other influences, and that was evident with Tifa's worries about being a normal family. But in the end, it doesn't have to be perfect, it's still a real family unit.

The end of AC/ACC made it pretty clear how he would go on with his own life. Cloud was with his "kids" and Tifa, along with other children and friends. Aerith smiled at him, said "everything's okay, right?" and walked away. Into a bright light where Zack would also reside. She'll always been in Cloud's heart, but her work isn't done. Sephiroth isn't completely gone, he pretty much stated that before he disappeared. Jenova is still floating around. As long as that happens, Aerith will always be working in the lifestream, like she did in Case of Lifestream.

What sucks is that we can't show you the legendary ACF threads where it all started.

When during ACF was this? I use to troll there but that was very early in it's creation. I actually got bored and left before AC came out >___>

Yeah, that's why I think it's kind of weak. I think the memory refers to the people he "failed" to save.

Well, narratively, he never mentions the memory of Aerith, whereas he draws the connection between memories and Sephiroth with the "stay where you belong, in my memories" and Tifa's line about him fearing failure. To think she's talking about Aerith is to be disregarding what little plot is explained in Advent Children.

I agree. I can see how people can think it's simply Aerith though, considering Cloud sees her right after this line is spoken and says, "But I let you die". However, I believe Tifa means his memories in general. His lingering in the past, blaming himself for Aerith, feeling bad about Zack, etc. He's running from everyone and doesn't feel worthy- Tifa wants that to end.

I did think that Tifa was referring to Aerith when I was a Clerith. Until, of course, Cloud tells Sephiroth to "stay as a memory", and I was like "whut, Cloud?". So Tifa was losing to Sephiroth all along?

This pretty much. Since I knew nothing about the actual game when I first watched AC, it gives me a valid excuse. However, for people who actually played the game and watched the movie to say this...

I was looking at Tifa Ultimania profile for what it says about that scene and Tifa's line.

「 Which is it, a memory or us? 」

Even though being burdened with painful “memories” is the same for everyone － Unable to do much for Cloud who is always dragging around his regrets for the past, she subconsciously raises her voice.

So yes, it doesn't look like she was talking about Aerith. Well, she was, just not about him pining for her. And not just her.

Tifa’s complicated feelings continue even in AC, two years after Aerith had departed the world. This was due to the fact that Cloud, succumbing to the notion that Aerith’s death was his fault and condemning himself, construed that Denzel was “the child which Aerith brought here” and took care of him. In addition, Cloud had also gone away to the church that Aerith had been in. The thing which she is unable to hide in her irritation towards Cloud is the fact that he isn’t merely dragging the past around, but because that reason might perhaps be related to Aerith.

But this quote from her profile confuses me a little. Particularly what is bolded out.

It's probably just talking about his guilt toward her death again. And official sources have all ready stated that Tifa was jealous of Cloud and Aerith's relationship. I don't think it's too far fetched to say she's feeling that now. Or I dunno, maybe Tifa really is a jealous bitch

The bolded part of that text doesn't confuse me at all. Aerith and Cloud have a special connection, and there are parts to his personality that she still doesn't understand. She's having normal feelings, especially as a woman devoted and in love with a man.

It doesn't confuse me in general. Just wrt to the line. Her memory line was referring to dragging the weight of the negative parts of your past around with you, and it said that she was worried it may have something to do with Aerith, aside from him just dragging things?

So does that mean she was a little worried that Cloud might have had feelings for Aerith? Or am I reading it wrong?

I think Tifa does worry that. Afterall, it's normal to be jealous, even if it means nothing. I mean, that's just being a human.

Tifa's jealous, simple as that. Tifa is none the wiser to Cloud's feelings for her, as he is with her feelings for him. So it would be kind of annoying how Cloud is talking about moving on with her, and then he's suddenly living in the church of a dead girl all emo. It's a pretty typical reaction for a woman in love to be irritated by this, especially if the "rival" woman is dead.

Those are Tifa's thoughts written there however. Tifa thinks Cloud may still have feelings for Aerith. On Cloud's side, however, he's just really guilty and actually in love with Zack. Tifa doesn't know this. If this were really the case, then there should be something written in Cloud's profile about these feelings for Aerith Tifa is worrying about.

And Tifa being jealous or a little insecure about that isn't some kind of proof that there actually was or is something romantic between Cloud and Aerith.

From examining Cloud's behavior about it, he doesn't act as if romantic feelings played a part in his beating himself up over Aerith. And in Ultimania quotes in his profile they refer to her as either friend or comrade.

And the fact that Tifa gets insecure and/or jealous makes her more awesome, in my opinion. It shows depth and realism to her character, and also puts emphasis to her feelings for Cloud.

And in Ultimania quotes in his profile they refer to her as either friend or comrade.

While his promise to Tifa is referred to countless of times.

Including Tifa's jealousy into her overall character does make her more well rounded than Aerith - I'll have to point out that Aerith is a bit of a flat character throughout the series. We see Tifa develop her 'maturity' throughout childhood, and does still have quite a few flaws within her character. But really, does it matter that she's jealous? That only comes to show us that Tifa is most definitely human.


Being jealous for your partner is actually kinda cute too.
