Overall reaction: We are in Middle Earth again! The mood of this is way lighter the LOTR, which fits the book perfectly.

Individual clip reactions:

#1: Anyone else thing that contract wasn't nearly comprehensive enough?

#2: I really like how the goblins are goblins and not orcs.

#3: Schizo Gollem is back... why did you have to tell him where you were from, Bilbo...

#4: A letter-opener??? It's much more useful then that.

#5: I love how the dwarves are all unique and how they run the range from cliche dwarf to not looking like a dwarf at all.

#6: Wargs = Saruman?

I think I'll refrain from watching those clips until I've seen the movie, :monster:.

Good thing I don't feel compelled to avoid spoilers in terms of story though.

I don't want to watch the clips, because I want to enjoy those moments in the movie, and not spoil it (even though I have read the book, but still). I can wait for a week. :P

Which reminds me, the premiere (in Finland at least) is going to be in less than a week! Hurray! :joy:

I'm so excited for this movie, even though I didn't really like The Hobbit much when I read it. :P

I'm sad that I have no one to go to the midnight premier with me, though. :(

Here's one of the "Quest of Erebor" -type clips that I'm just bursting with excitement about. It's (rightfully) suspicious old Gandalf addressing The White Council: http://herocomplex.latimes.com/2012...lip-gandalf-warns-saruman-of-a-powerful-evil/

This is exactly the sort of thing that I was hoping to see from Peter Jackson's films. Little details from the Appendices filling in the bigger picture of what's taking place in Middle Earth, and working as a framing device for The Lord of the Rings that takes place 60 years later. Even just seeing the council all in one place helps to give some really excellent connection to all of the parties who're involved during the start of LotR. You have Elrond, who we meet again during the start of Fellowship, and provides council, followed by betrayal of Saruman, and then by Gandalf's fall before he is able to meet with Galadriel.

The more I see of it, the more exciting it is and the more fortunate that it is that The Lord of the Rings trilogy was made first. It's gonna be absolutely brilliant by the time that everything is stitched together into one big image of Middle Earth. I can hardly wait!!!

LESS THAN A WEEK UNTIL IT'S OUT!!!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

More of Riddles in the Dark, and The War of Dwarves and Orcs!

I have the opposite problem. I have so many groups of friends that obsessively love LotR, but all have VASTLY different schedules, or are part of different social circles, that I'll probably end up going broke seeing the movie with so many different groups of people, (much like I did when Fellowship first came out). >_< #NerdWorldProblems

I'm sad because I won't be able to watch it on a theater, even when I know the story from start to end and know
who dies and who survives in the end.

Sorry for double posting, but I can't wait to share my feelings about the movie!

I have to say, I think the new technology made the movie look absolutely beautiful. It is really different, the movements seem much faster and it make the movie look a bit tv-like at first. But like any new technology, you get used to it. I don't really like that some movie critics seem to give the movie lower ratings, just because they didn't like it in the HFR 3D form. At least in Finland you can see the movie in normal 3D and 2D as well, so what is there to complain about. In few years you won't even notice it being different anymore. I'd say that the only minus points for the HFR is that it seems to be much more developed than the settings in the movie, which is why you can sometimes see it a bit too clearly, what's real and what's not. Another minus point is that some people, like my friends said that it at first make them sick. In my opinion though the HFR made the movie look even more like a fantasy story and it also gives you the feeling, like you are a part of the film. I also have to say that this was the first time I was impressed by 3D.

This is really something I want to get off my chest. I admit, it has been awhile since I read the book last time (I just bought the English version though, so I hope I get the chance to read it before the next time I see the film :awesome:) but even so I felt like too many times I asked myself: "was this in the book?" or just said: "this wasn't in the book". For example the story between Azog and Thorin (this I checked) wasn't in the book, and was even changed so it conflicts both The Hobbit, by not being in the book, and Silmarillion, by changing the story of the Battle of Azanulbizar. Luckily I really like that story in the movie, so it wasn't a disaster. And from here I can get to my other minus, which is the adding of unnecessary action scenes. I would have rather seen some scenes where the movie would have introduced some of the dwarves more. The story of Azog and Thorin is there mainly because of the action.

First of all, the scene where Bilbo and Gollum play the game of riddles was by far the best scene in the whole movie. It was the scene that was probably the most loyal to the book and it was funny. And to see two of the greatest actors together, which leads me to Martin Freeman. He makes such an excellent job as a young Bilbo Baggins, who gets swept away without even realising it and without being sure, if that's really what he wants.

Music. They have included many of the songs in the book, even the one about smashing the plates! That was one of my favourite songs in the book and I was so happy to see it happening in the movie. And of course the song Over the Misty Mountains Cold. When the dwarves started to sing, I tell you, my nonexsisting backhair stood up. Shivers down my spine, it was so amazing. The music itself was quite the same as in the Lord of the Rings, which was okay though, they know just the right places to play the right melody.

And the adding of scenes about darkness growing in Middle-Earth and stories about the history of Middle-Earth and the characters are a great add. They really give more depth to the story and link it to the earlier trilogy.

Last but not least, Thorin. I fell in love with him almost instantly. Even when I saw the trailer for the first time, I thought they had done a good job by making him look and seem really honorable, and like a real dwarf king and also I think he's kinda hawt.

I think those are the main points, just one other thing I'm wondering about. This is the first movie, and I think they are about half way to the book already. How in earth are they going to make the rest of the book in two movies? I really hope that they haven't done it by just adding lots of action that is unrelevant to the story.

And one more thing
I didn't really like how they portrayed Radagast the Brown. :/

Can't wait to see it again. :joy:
