QFT and I think that's really the bottom line. and I'm sorry I started this whole messNot trying to jump down anyone's throat or anything, but I'd just like to add that I don't get why it matters. If the Japanese audience gets the drift of the way Reno's character talks, and the English audience gets the drift of the way Reno's character talks, then didn't the translators do just fine handling 'zotto'?
One assumption that always annoyed me (and gets me flamed really bad) is when I say Cloud is NOT AN EMO/DEPRESSING charactter in the original game. In AC he was feeling guilty, yes but the whole film was about the after effects of the events in the game. In the original game, there are some textual evidence that he was actually a rather encouraging, and I would venture to say, uplifting character, but his portrayal in AC seems to have gotten the fanbase to think he is some whiny character, not to mention mis-using the term emo, and thus catagorizing FFVII as a depressing game overall. The themes may be more dark and serious, but I find it annoying when people say FFVII is depressing because Cloud is a depressing character.

Loxetta said:Having English!Reno say 'yo' as often as Japanese!Reno says 'zotto' would make him come off as an irritating cockhole, not just a guy who hates formalities.
Loxetta said:Besides, character isn't just in the way they talk and what they say, and Reno's personality comes across adequately in both versions.

Anyone who says FF7 is completely emo/depressing has never played it. Everyone in FF7 jokes around -- even Vincent, the cliche emo/depressing guy.Obviously, those who say that:
Haven't played the game.
Have played, but didn't understand a word of it.
Played it, understood it, but are unable to understand that, when a friend dies on you (the way Zack and Aerith did), you usually feel sad, and sometimes you think it's your fault.
Maybe he'll find some leftovers?
At this point, who, other than Lucrecia, is even known to have them? Presumably, the contents of the box in AC/ACC comprised the largest quantity of it still around.

Well it was kinda the first mainstream RPG to kill a main playable character permanently and with no real replacement (a la Galuf and Krile). It also happen at a rather unexpected point in the game.
People still certainly give it more credit than it deserved, but it still was significant.

Next installment: Lucrecia will be Neo Jenova and will dress like Ultimecia
...scary, I could see them trying that...
At least the "Anti-Lucrecia" squadron would be happy -____-;
I can see it now...
"Oh hey, I left some mom in the fridge!"
Likewise.Vincent has always been one of my favorite characters. Sure he's a silent man, but having those demons inside it's not precisely something to be happy about. An his humor is quite morbid, something I love.
I wasn't trying to say it wasn't any of these things - I'm just against the people who act like Aeris is the first, only, saddest ever, etc death ever in the entire span of RPGs. She wasn't the first to die by no means, and saddest can be very subjective.Aerith's death was surely surprising; I was left with a "You have to be kidding me" face when it happened. More credit than deserved? I don't know. It was sad and caught you off guard (as real death usually does), and left Cloud with that guilty complex, that's why I think it's an important point in the story.
She was pretty powerful still though, to be dead/frozen for 2000 years and still have the power that she had throughout FF7, and even carrying over to AC a little bit. That's one thing that has been nagging at me, that maybe Jenova wasn't as powerful as she should have been because there were missing parts of her.

Not really. If that woman shows up again, I'm going to be quite unhappy.
.
No shit....thb I absolutely agree. If Lucrecia was to return -- huge if, and I don't necessarily want to see her back -- I wish they'd completely forget what they did with her character in DOC. If she was the same completely nuts, "ohh so sorry" person... well, maybe she'd make a good villain, because I'd want to go make her shut up?

Hasn't anyone ever played FFVI or Chrono Trigger? I won't name names, but those deaths were very surprising and fairly sad as well.
At this point I hope SE brings Sephiroth, Jenovo, Lucrecia, Jesus and Buddha back for a new game just to relish in the sweet fanboy tears.
