Cheeky (adj.) - impudent or irreverent, typically in an endearing or amusing way.

Please post a song that you think exemplifies this theme.

If you played an instrument in grade school, what was it, and did you enjoy playing it? Did you want to play something else (and if so, what)? For those who didn’t play an instrument, if you were given the opportunity, what would you play and why?

LAST WEEK’S TRIVIA ANSWERS:
  1. A. A black dog walking into the studio whilst recording the song.
    • While Led Zeppelin were working on the song in a mansion in England, a nameless black Labradorwas wondering around the grounds and the band would befriend and feed it. The song is named after it.
      source
  2. B. Rihanna
    • Cornish originally wrote the song with Rihanna in mind because "Rude Boy" was released at the time, partly inspiring Cornish to write the song. She then sent the song to her label, Island Records, before sending it to Rihanna's management. Island then insisted the song become Cornish's first single, since they thought it was 'amazing'.

  3. D. Blur
    • [Damon Albarn] is the lead singer of the British rock band Blur and co-founder, vocalist, instrumentalist, and principal songwriter of the virtual band Gorillaz.

THIS WEEK’S TRIVIA:
  1. Name the song and band that was the first music video played on MTV on August 1, 1981.
    A. ‘I Ran’ - A Flock of Seagulls
    B. ‘Heart of Glass’ by Blondie
    C. ‘Take On Me’ by a-ha
    D. ‘Video Killed the Radio Star’ by the Buggles
  2. What instrument was formally on the coins of Ireland?
    A. The Bodhran
    B. The Fiddle
    C. The Harp
    D. The Uileann Pipes
  3. Michael Jackson reportedly spent three weeks working on the bassline for which mega-hit?
    A. ‘Billie Jean’
    B. ‘Bad’
    C. ‘Beat It’
    D. ‘Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough’

Also, I’m having regrets about last week’s trivia because naming the artist who fronted Blur and sang for Gorillaz would’ve made for a good bonus. Sad face.

Mindless Self Indulgence's
is pretty cheeky.

I really wanted to play the piano when I was a kid, there was this one song (I can't remember what it was now) that I desperately wanted to learn how to play myself, but my parents said they couldn't afford lessons for me. Fast forward a few years and both my brother and sister got bought instruments AND lessons (guitar and trumpet, respectively) and sure, my grandparents paid for nearly all of it but that's not the point I've been salty about it all this whole time  I did sing a lot at school though (and now) and I performed at The Barbican one time.

My Band - D12 ft. Cameo

Impudent? Definitely. Irreverent? Extremely. Endearing? Not quite but most certainly amusing...and overall, incredibly inappropriate. I thought it was hilarious, though. I grew up on this song and always found the dynamic between Eminem vs. the rest of D12 to be highly amusing (at least what was portrayed in the lyrics)

Personal Question: I played the piano in grade school but unfortunately did not take it as far as I should have! That's something I definitely regret today. Starting in the 5th grade, I played the trumpet through middle school and high school. I was a huge band geek and had the privilege of being our marching regiment's drum major in my senior year ayyyy. Then, in college I picked up the ukulele.

I absolutely loved playing the trumpet! And though I'm not very good at it, I'm still trying to learn the uke. Unfortunately, I was a huge brat as a kid and didn't like the piano...today, though, I would KILL to be able to play again. I wish I kept it up.

Trivia:
1. D!!! I'm almost certain of it!
2. B (just a guess)
3. C...kind of a guess but also because THAT BEAT BANGZ

Don't really store away cheeky songs in my head, so I think I'll settle on Flight of the Conchords "If you're into it". I think it ticks all the boxes for this week's theme? I'm not into MMFs though :awesome:.

As for instruments. Played recorder in grade 3. Couldn't play it at home because my Dad hates sound in general, so didn't play it outside music class :P. Think I still got said recorder somewhere. Played keyboard in high school. For some reason, I was allowed to play that at home, but I think that's because it had a volume control :P. I wouldn't say I was great at it. Always found it difficult to play two different rhythms together with each hand, so usually just did basic chords with the left, and melody with right.

Would have liked to have got into electric guitar earlier, given all the sounds you could make with it, but I doubt I'd have been allowed to play it at home either :P. Was always intimidated by the instrument when I was younger, but have since learned there are various patterns that would have made playing a lot easier. CBA to memorise them atm though, but kids soak in shit a lot easier. That and a lot of music have simple tunes, and that would be sufficient for me.

No, he was dead.

LMAO this song is so dumb but I find myself singing along so...

I'm so jealous of Sab. I started playing piano when I was a kid but my bratty ass couldn't get the hang of it and I ragequit. Then I took up guitar in high school for a compulsory music class, and found that I wasn't bad at it, but after the 6 months was over we had to give the guitars back and we couldn't afford another one so I never continued :-(

If I were to take up a musical instrument now, though I'd love to also learn the piano, sax, and drums, I'd probably want to pick up the acoustic guitar again because it's something that I could play to accompany my vocals. Singing backtrack-less sucks balls.
