That stuff is almost entirely self-imposed by the females of the species, anyway. Women look in the mirror or at each other and do it to themselves. Women buy the fashion magazines, the cosmetics, and all of that stuff, to try and give themselves an edge over other women or to boost their own self confidence.
I can pretty much guarantee that there aren't many straight guys watching America's Next Top Model or reading Cosmo and forming an ideal view of what a woman needs to look and act like to be considered attractive. That's all on the womenfolk.
SO true, Suzaku. I always hear how young women are pressured to be incredibly thin, and made to feel inferior if they aren't tall, aren't blonde, etc. But i wholeheartedly agree with you that a majority of that is self-imposed. I have never met a SINGLE guy that has found Paris Hilton to be anything other than ugly. And she is exactly the tall, skeletal specimen that women are made to feel that's how they should look? Why would that be the case when men far more frequently swoon over curvier women?
As McChanny said, I am firmly in the less-is-more camp as far as makeup goes. Used sparingly it can indeed make a woman look very pretty, but blue eyeshadow that looks as though it was applied through one of those things they ice cakes with looks terrible.
Why do you think there are stereotypes like guys not wanting to answer "does this make me look fat" questions or not noticing new haircuts? It's because we generally don't care.
Well, I suppose that's true to an extent, but as for the fat questions, there is almost no point in answering. Because its not like the guy can say "Yes." And women aren't stupid, they know we can't say that it does, so they don't believe us if we say it doesn't, so why bother?
As for the actual topic, I don't really understand the girly guys kick either. A better example even than Johnny Depp, I think, is Orlando Bloom's Lord of the Rings Elf whose name I can't remember. I understand what you're sayign Ravynne, but hairy fat guys and unhygenic looks aren't really considered manly. Unkempt, yes, but not dirty. (Well, not greasy dirty, though girls do seem to be turned on by the sweaty, strong-exerting-himself guy)
And, really, I never thought Cloud looked feminine. Especially in FF7, but even in Advent Children. As I've said before, no, he's not the Marlboro Man, and he does have soft facial features, but he has very notable muscles and carries himself (the way he fights, walks, and talks) are all pretty masculine. Crisis Core you have more of a case, but that's because he's supposed to be pretty darn young then, I can't tell you how many times I was mistaken for my mom on the phone around that age, lol.
My one female friend is turned on by Yazoo - THAT I don't understand. He looks resoundly like a woman, stands like one, tilts his head like one, he's a woman.
Vincent is also not feminine in my book. Yes he has long, some might say pretty black hair, well so do I and no one has said I look like a girl. Not to mention his incredibly deep voice.
But even if they are, it seems to be what women want, Cid is manly, so is Barret, and I never hear girls go after them.
