Cut from the game.

Actually the other 90% of the WoR was cut. Hope it is at least put back in as DLC.

Proof?

Did you bother to go check the post I made in the leaks from June thread? All the proof you need.

Honestly could be an entire separate thread, so maybe more members would actually give it a read. Swear on my life I'm not trolling like my name and avatar suggest.

Finally found a video that examines the painting (at the 35:30 mark):

I'm going to type out all the dialogue from that room, though, in the order I think it's supposed to be absorbed.

First, there's the dialogue everyone sees (unless they literally run straight to the fucking door, as way too many players actually do):

Gladiolus: "Remember how nervous we were in front of King Regis the day we left?"
Ignis: "That was the last time we were in here."
Prompto: "Yeah. They even let me in that day."
Noctis: "Feels like forever ago."

Also, in this video (around 6:03:05) you can see/hear this bit of discussion about the paintings and prophecy in general if you examine one of the wall murals:
Ignis: "Do the paintings of the prophecy still adorn the walls?"
Prompto: "Yeah. Intact...and amazing."
Gladiolus: "We'll witness firsthand whether their story comes true."
Noctis: "Oh, I'll make sure it does."

And this dialogue when examining the other wall mural (as seen at 32:18 in this video):

Noctis: "Hmm. Guessing Ardyn was meant to appear in these, too."
Gladio: "Hmph. Never would have guessed that guy for royalty."
Noctis: "He's been living a long time. In a world he could share with no one."

Then, if one sticks around a few seconds (again, instead of running right into the damn doors):
Ignis: "I recall a young prince leaving his mark on a painting. Is it still there?"
Noctis: "I don't think anyone could spot it. Had one of my attendants cover it up pretty good."

When examining the painting that is presumably the one in question --
Prompto: "So Ardyn...is the darkness of the legends."
Ignis: "Ironically, since he was to be the King of Light."
Noctis: "And only I can deliver him from his own darkness."
Prompto: "My buddy's gonna write the last chapter of the legend. So cool."

Finally, again, if one bothers to walk around for a moment:
Noctis: "I always hated this room as a kid."
Prompto: "Yeah? And why's that?"
Noctis: "Coming here always made my dad all serious and sad."
Ignis: "It no doubt reminded him of the fate his son would come to bear."
----

So, there we have it. Ardyn confirmed to have been the Chosen King. :monster:

I'll try to find a Japanese recording of the painting to see how he was described there, but I'm confident we can count this as confirmation.

And here's the Japanese text for that part. :monster:

From this video at 34:40.

----
Prompto: あの人は 神話の中の『闇』ってことか
Ignis: 皮肉だな 光を司る王のひとりのはずが
Noctis: ああ もう眠らせてやらないとな
Prompto: そうやって神話の最後をノクトが作るんだね

Prompto: "So that guy is the 'darkness' in the legend?"
Ignis: "Ironic. He was to be the King who would administer the Light."
Noctis: "Yeah. Now I have to let him rest."
Prompto: "And like that, Noct is going to bring the finale to the legend."
----

I think we're safe going with that understanding of the backstory now.

Huh. I just realized that this Japanese line I recorded above might be meta.

Prompto says "そうやって神話の最後をノクトが作るんだね, which I understood to mean "And like that, Noct is going to bring the finale to the legend." You'll recall that FFXV was originally supposed to be part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis, and did retain a few elements from it all the way through production. Square Enix has said "Fabula Nova Crystallis" means "New Legend of the Crystal."

Granted, on that occasion, SE used a different Japanese word for "legend" ("新しいクリスタルの物語"), but 神話 and 物語 are considered synonyms of one another.

Your original translation is correct. He says something very similar in english actually.

I don't think he has a PS4
This would be the main reason. :monster:

Also don't really have the money to get one right now since my rent is overpriced and I want to try to get into a house this year.

And I still have games for the PS3 I need to finish or even start in several cases. Raising a tiny human is surprisingly demanding, to the point that you're usually too tired mentally to play your games when you do have a chance. I'm just lucky enough to work 12-hour shifts at a job where my downtime means I can work on translations or watch YouTube videos. :monster:

Despite this game's flaws, I see now what Lex said about it being greater than the sum of its parts. I've fallen in love with it, and can't wait to play. Even with its shortcomings, I've grown very attached to the main cast, and quite fond of a few supporting cast members. And it looks so fun to play.

Your willingness to completely experience a game without playing it has always puzzled me a little, but I'm glad you're enjoying it :monster:

The could gone off a little bit better I suppose, but you guys have to admit that FFXV's story is heaps times better than FFXIII's crappy story.

Has anyone looked around
the room in the Citadel just outside the throne room
before the final battle?

I'm seeing claims on reddit that there are paintings on the walls (specifically one to the left of the doors) that explain/confirm additional lore of the game. From watching some walkthrough videos, I do see paintings -- but in video after video that I check, people just run straight to the fucking battle. No one is actually looking around.

Ugh. What the hell?

This is why it was so hard for me to track down those Cosmogony entries. When did this "run straight to the end" kind of thing become the standard for exploration in RPGs?

Yeah,
I took screenshots of the paintings on the walls and uploaded them to FB. Not all of them, but namely the ones that had all of the summons pictured (which was the majority of them, I think).

I actually greatly enjoyed 13's story. The lore was quite vast once fully established and it had a very good, polished feel to it when everything was put together.

Twilight! Have you seen that all of the weapons have different names in the JP version than they do in English? They actually give some insight on what their bearers were famous for. I love it!

Finally got to play a lot again the last two days. I did one massive experience dump at Altissia of ~1.5 million. Took me from level 53 to 85, mostly from maybe an hour of work? Pretty great :monster:

I also have all but the last Royal Arm, and I know where that is. I really like the variety in these things. And as you grab the last couple, the sheer number of them flying around him is pretty cool. When the new story stuff drops and I do a new game+, I'm looking forward to seeing if that cool scene where Noctis challenges Ravus and his four Arms appear around him will show all thirteen of them :D

I'm also finally starting to get the hang of landing the freakin Regalia without exploding. (I was pressing X in...like stages according to the levels of the car's transformation, and also trying to line myself up and descend, whereas just holding X does MOST of that for you. Still kind of a pain though...)

And I spent hours lost in Crestholm Channels, finally come out and see a Hunt in Hammerhead to kill the boss. Come on man, I'm not doing that again.

And I finally got over to the volcano, which I had somehow not done yet. That was a very cool dungeon.

I kinda see where you're coming from, if you were to treat the game's cast like an actual CAST from a movie, then it doesn't sting as much.

This is pretty much how I feel about the entire thing as well. There's a few things I don't like, but as a whole, I still love this game and I love playing it. I'm usually not much of one to get around to doing all of the side content in an RPG but with this game I just might. XII previously held the record of how much time I spent doing sidequests and the like. XV might tie or even beat that.

Yas it is.

When I was told that a certain level (snowy area with Shiva statue) was going to get deleted anyway after working on it for weeks nonstop and then having to work on a bootleg version for that level.

The picture was posted on neogaf, I didn't take it :comedian:
Checked it out. :monster: Thanks.

Since the pose is a tad odd, the theory over there is that they took
her model at a random instance (probably where she's swirling around in the air in sort of a curled position), increased the size, and just stuck it in the snow here.

Makes you wonder if the Chinese edition still has the thong on the giant Shiva since they were supposed to cover her up a bit more for that release. :monster:

Still want to know if she's solid. I'm betting so.

Thanks for the great info. Really enjoying the mythology and world building here, even if the story and execution were uneven.

Any thoughts on the 24 messengers? Gentiana, Luna, Umbra, Pyrna, and maybe Cor? Can't think of any others without it being pure speculation.

Luna is an Oracle, which is a separate concept from the Messengers, but
Gentiana, Umbra and Pyrna are the latter. The only three confirmed to be so far.
