I mean, it's not hard to extrapolate a connection to Sephiroth when three men in black leather, with silver hair, and green cat-like eyes, materialize from the Northern Crater, screaming for "Mother" and saying a "Reunion" is eminent.

Furthermore, I'm sure Rufus has familiarized himself with the Jenova Project and what Sephiroth is.

True, although he seemed to think in AC that Cloud would not get it (since he told them "oh ja, the mother-stuff is probably because there are lots of orphans and like, nevermind, don't give a shit about it&quot.

Well the turks where there when SHM materialized and ask for mother......I would say it had something to do with Sephiroth since he doesn't know how to say dead....for long.

I don't see why people find it so hard to believe Rufus would understand the threat Sephiroth posed to the planet.

He *was* there for the Reunion after all, and witnessed Sephiroth's planetary madness first hand.

Yeah, Rufus also wanted to put an end to Sephiroth. If he didn't force Hojo to explain the Jenova Project he probably looked it up himself in the two years he's had.

The Rufus scene was purposeful, but in true Nomura-fashion, it left an inordinate amount for the viewer to figure out on his own. With the new dialogue that has hopefully been remedied.

I think 'vague' applies more than 'subtle'. It wasn't a compliment either way In Nomura's defense though, he didn't write the movie.

But he did direct it.

I still think it was silly of SE to hire Nomura as a film director. He hasn't got any experience in that field, and co-director Nozue has only worked on game FMVs. They should have hired an actual director (in the anime industry) and had Nomura assist with the artistic side of things.

The thing that gets me is that who did write the movie, and a few other main names regarding the movie, had a lot to do with the original game. I never disliked the original movie (I am a total fan), though I wished for some things to be explained more. So, yeah, fleshing out the movie's story is very good. Honestly, I don't get the criticism the movie gets for the most part, though I can say that I understand some of it. There are a lot of questions left unanswered; like, in my own case, why do we even need the SHM? And then, followed by my complaint of, it seems like a waste of three perfectly good characters. *shrug* ... Unless they are still separate from Sephiroth... ?!?

Most of the movie's problems can probably be attributed to the fact that it's got about 20 minutes worth of core story, and the rest is just fanservice fluff that was continually added on as the production continued until they finally hit a deadline and had to wrap it up. There was one script rewrite when they got the go to make a full-length film, but a lot of the movie just got made up as they went along.

Almost the entire speech Rufus gives during the Bahamut SHIN battle is superfluous, restating stuff that Marlene addressed in the first few minutes of the movie. One or the other was pretty obviously an artifact of an older version of the film and they didn't want to cut it out.

Now they've had time to sort through things and rework the weaker parts of the film, clarify details, add more exposition, and so on. At the least, it'll be better than it was before.

There are a lot of questions left unanswered; like, in my own case, why do we even need the SHM? And then, followed by my complaint of, it seems like a waste of three perfectly good characters. *shrug* ... Unless they are still separate from Sephiroth... ?!?

The Remnants, simply put, aren't real characters. They're just physical manifestations of Sephiroth's spirit and, by extension, represent aspects of his personality (cruelty, allure, and strength).

Within the context of the story, they are nothing more than puppets, like Jenova and the Sephiroth Copies in the original game. They're golems, simple physical constructs that Sephiroth can control, driven almost purely by their instinct to find Jenova and carry out the Reunion.

I suppose it's possible that they can be recreated, but in terms of storytelling, I'm fairly certain that they've already served their purpose and probably won't be brought back into future stories.

I'm fairly sure that such an effect could be automagically generated with some smart programming, so they wouldn't have the extra cost of manually drawing it up either, .

Off course, they'd have to add an hour of yapping as well, :/.

Seriously, is it so wrong to ask for a chocobo? They're making this movie for fanservice, no? What better way than to include a chocobo in a FF that incorporated chocobos more thoroughly than others? They made chocobos look fine in the CG scenes of FFIII... Granted the graphics were crap and for DS an shit.... but christ, is it so hard to throw in a flock of chocobos in the distance?!

Also, I second the notion [can't remember who or where it was said] about status ailments in battle. Couple little stars floating above their heads, their faces in a dark cloud, or a little cloud ... bubble above their head. AND ITEMS.

For a video game movie, there's not so much video game to it anymore.

About the 'video game' comment, I think that's the point - making it as if it was reality.

... Of course, the anti-gravity moves kind of messes that up.

As for the chocobos: a wild chocobo in tow behind one or two monsters during the Healin' directions board scene.

The items idea was neat!

A random battle over a chest with an Elixir would be neat; perhaps with Yuffie and/or Red and Yazoo and/or Loz.

Status ailments, well...

I can see a comedic scene where Rude and Reno are fighting over placement and insistance on wearing a ribbon (Cloud?)
