New Novel, FINAL FANTASY VII Lateral Biography TURKS: The Kids Are Alright [SPOILER THREAD]

NOT AMUSED
And now I've read the book, someone somewhere had said the book has Cloud saying he misses Aerith or something. That's not in the book, he never even mentions her.
Well, it doesn't say he doesn't miss her :monster:

So.. if Kadaj can shape shift and sorta teleport in this novel, why didn't he do that in AC? I don't remember him doing that. Or am I missing something?

In ACC he can turn into smoke, and Loz has super-speed, but yeah that is kind of the extent of it. It is odd as Kadaj is not even in Cloud's league in AC but this iteration sounds like it would be more of a chalenge.

Or maybe all those people that said Sephiroth's power was split among the remnants were all onto something after all. The first Kadaj was basically Sephiroth, and his energies had to be split among the three so that they could be ineffectual at more than one thing at a time :awesomonster:

I think it's good that Kadaj got a little more screen time to make him more involved and more of a threat. It's just a little odd that he's more of a threat than he was in the movie.

Also, hito, you are a god among men. Thank you for your translations and I look forward to the whole thing :)

The remnants pretty much wipe the floor with everyone they face besides Cloud and Vincent's magic cape. Well maybe not Yazoo, but he's a special child. The new powers probably have something to do with ideas for AC that were never realized due to time or animation constraints.

Also Hito, did there happen to be any specific mention of Veld or Elfe or any of the BC Turks? It looks doubtful from your summaries, but I do find it odd that a story that gives a good bit of focus to the Turks would skip out on all that.

The Sephiroths from disc 1, which are really Jenova bodyparts could all make illusions too. Cloud when he gave into Sephiroth at the Crater could suddenly teleport up too Sephiroths crystal ball and down too Rufus' party too remember.

Kadaj is just getting a handle on his powers, he's only effective here because Tseng and Kyrie and Fabio ect are weaksauce.

There are mentions of some former Turks, although they never end up appearing in the novel itself. Never states who, probably due to the nature of BC. But other than that there's no reference to other Bc characters. Thought I'd mentioned the former Turks, but I did forget to note character appearances a couple of times.

I would absolutely stress a thousand times that you should not go into this book expecting to see much of the original team from the game. Just put that whole notion out of your mind, and take it as a side story focusing more on Shinra and original characters.QUOTE=]
But do they act like they now each other or is it more like "just a cameo"
I mean what kind of vibe do you get of the old characters when they appear?

Most of them are just mentioned in passing, so you don't get much to go one for them. Not sure who you mean by 'they', so I'll just try to answer as generally as I can.

Evan/Kyrie: were familiar with Tifa due to spending time at Seventh Heaven. By the end seem to be starting some kind of casual friendship with Cloud, Tifa, ect.
Nanaki, Vincent, Cid, Barret: no real relationship, just helping characters out during the story. Nanaki's being the most significant ans he gets and actual role in the story. The rest are just mentioned in Annette's letter and for Vincent and Barret just mentioned and referenced at the end.

Hito - wow. Just wow. You are awesomely amazing.

I read through the summaries earlier this evening. I have to say, after I finished reading through the first batch of chapter summaries, I wasn't really all that impressed, but when I got to the second batch, I found myself being much more drawn in. I'm looking forward to reading a full translation now, I think it could be really interesting. Thanks again, Hito, for all the work you're doing for this.

I'm really looking forward to your translations hito. I think i read somewhere you planning on doing it chapter by chapter. If i may ask, how often do you think you will be updating the story? I was just wondering because I know of some people who start translating something and it takes them months sometimes to come up with an update. Just wanted to know if i should wait for the whole thing to be finished before i start reading. That way I'm not in suspense if you take along time.lol. Really appreciate you translating this! Can't wait.

I don't think I said chapter by chapter, maybe groups of chapters but that was before I had gotten my hands on the book. Doing it in single chapters would lead to some very short updates at times, since some chapters are only one and a half/two pages long.

What I had been playing around with in my mind so far was:
- the entire book in one update, which would obviously take the longest to update
- two updates, releasing "See me, feel me" (first half) and "Who are you?" (last half) in two separate updates
- two updates for each half (i.e. release the first 15 chapters of "See me, feel me", then the next, etc.)
- smaller groupings of chapters, like 5 or 6 per update

The only reservation I have towards the smaller bundle of chapter method is if when I get to something later in the book that is referenced earlier, that I will change my mind about how the earlier reference ought to be translated/worded and have to go back to edit something that's already been released. Perhaps that's not as big a deal as I think, though. I obviously wouldn't just change something and not say anything if it were something meaningful, anyway.

Okay I need to get over the bed thing, I seriously read, "in two separate bedrooms."

Anyway I'm still amazed that you're taking on this monster book hito.. is anyone going to be helping you?

I like the idea of smaller updates. It gives us a chance to take it in, rather than a huge load to read at once... though im not a big reader, so i dont know if my view is shared by everyone else

Shademp had brought this up before, although at the moment there isn't anyone else. I don't know if it comes across as trying to take all the glory for myself or something :awesome: but I think with something like this having one person doing the work (or perhaps the bulk of the the work) would help keep it consistent? I just feel like that's the best way to handle things like this, even if it is a bigger workload.

But I've never done a whole novel before, so I don't know from experience :monster:

I guess I'll see what people think about how to update it, though that conversation might be better suited to the non-spoiler Active Projects thread than this one.

Way to go, hito. You are the man.

I agree with your views on consistency and all that, too. And I've studied two years of Translation and stuff at university, so I know what I'm speaking about! :D

Just do it whichever way you think will be best. Even if you choose to do the entire book in one update It will be worth the wait.:) We are all appreciative that your doing this in the first place.

Hito, I suggest blocks of chapters, that way you can break the entire novel down into discretely manageable chunks and not overdo yourself thinking of the entire book as a monolith to be translated.

I think whatever is most manageable for you Hito. Obviously the sooner we can read stuff the better :awesome: but its really up to you.

If you we're to go down the 'small chunks' route you can always state a disclaimer saying its all a WIP and that things may change as you progress through the book, that way (hopefully!) nobody will be going off half-cocked into the LTD with new evidence that turns out to be wrong
