Relationship between Remake and the original? (split from the "How many parts?" thread)

LMAO

My point was, that if they wanted to put loads of fan favourite ideas onto the table, then having Team Cloud and Team Zack running through two different threads that intersect towards the end, along with a little dynamic storytelling, allowing players to either arrive at OG or your meme is preferable to having a multiverse where one story gives you OG and the other gives you that meme.

You know?

On another note, if Remake is some grand reboot project where they're going to satisfy the wider fanbases dream scenarios while also maintaining something thats credibly still OG I think they're better placed to do this in a single timeline with one version of each character and throwing some dynamic storytelling into it.

They could do something like this:

Zack gets Cloud to Midgar, some alternate scene or event that leads him to give Cloud the Buster Sword and Zack goes off into some side story away from Cloud. Clouds journey begins.

Team Cloud go off on their adventure. Hook Zack into Integrade and Crisis Core by having Zack and Yuffie meet up and embark on some side story, maybe involving the stuff from integrade. The main plot moves forward with Team Cloud while a second thread moves forward with Team Zack. We could then be picking up some fan favourite dream playable characters through team Zack. We could potentially get Roche, we could plausibly have playable Turks. Yuffie could get separated off, meet Team Cloud. Then, further down the line Team Cloud and Team Zack intersect bringing the two story threads and two groups together.

You could have dynamic storytelling interwoven into that where Aerith could live or die, or Zack could live or die. You could even have all characters including new ones, or even the Turks, going into the final battle in a fan service fest celebration of the characters... or not... if you don't want to.

Personally, if they were going to give us a "celebration of FFVII with all possibilities on the table" this would be a far more preferable and cleaner solution to doing that.
I dunno if they’re going to be that ambitious with it but I would probably like anything over having multiple endings lol

This is pretty much my go-to example of a story where multiple timelines exist and the people within them can cross over to one another, while Steins;Gate is my go-to example for a story where infinite timelines exist but only one timeline is “active” at a time

I understand. That part just reminded me of the meme.

What you propose seems an exceedingly big amount of work, though, so that's hardly possible.
We all desire our own remake, yet will have to take what SE gives to us, and judge it for what it becomes at The World's Cusp.

If they were creating two timelines where we are switching between a Team A with one story and a Team B with another then I doubt it would be more work, likely less tbh. Also, I was replying to Roundhouse, while I like the idea of divergent storylines, something that gets very fanservicey isn't something I would have on my personal wishlist. I was more commenting on if it was going in a certain direction with fan desires then approach A is better than approach B. Thats all.

I don't get this aversion some people have to multiple endings.

I think it’s the finality of having one ending that makes for more satisfying storytelling (if it’s a well-written ending), and personally I’d like to avoid decades of arguing over which ending is more canon than the other

So over 20 of us believe that they can finish the entire expanded version of VII, minus the Midgar bit at the very beginning, in two parts?
I voted for three parts and I would say they could do it if they go as far as the Forgotten City or maybe the Northern Crater for part 2 and cover the rest of the game in part 3...I think four parts is pushing it a bit though still possible, but anything more than that seems pretty wild to me

Fair enough, if its an issue of "keeping it clean" I kinda get that.

This on the other hand I don't. Usually when these arguments appear its typically people having a tantrum that a ship that competes with theirs is a thing, or their favourite character isn't as important in a particular ending. Which is too much. If a story has 3 endings, unless the creators say otherwise, they are all canon and equally valid as their own paths. Unless its a hot spring ending or a har-de-har-har ending where everybody paints Wall Market red and crazy things occur.

Finally got all those posts moved into their own thread. :monster:

As helpful as Audrey is though, it would be nice if she and others quoted the Japanese alongside their translation so that it can be discussed and even scrutinised. Especially when that text is being cryptic or coy.

I'll try to get that portion transcribed once I have time. I have a busy evening ahead, though, so it may take until tomorrow.

“But which one is the REAL one? It’s obviously X and not Y as evidenced by this, this, and that.”
“You moron, it’s clearly Y and not X and here’s why you’re an idiot.”
“Guys...it’s all canon.”
“Yeah, but if you look at this translation of this interview and you look at the phrase used here, it can be interpreted in multiple ways but the way that phrase is most commonly used in Japanese is this as confirmed by this person that I contacted online who studied Japanese for 5 years and if you cross reference this to the English, Spanish, French, German, Elvish and Klingon translations which are obviously approved by SE and must therefore be accurate then you can clearly see the creators intended for this ending to be the true ending and furthermore if you look at the advertisements and you pay attention to how this character is placed next to that character and you look at the footage that SE decided to use in the promotions and in the end credits and if you look at their official Western social media accounts which are obviously being personally managed by Kitase, Nomura, Nojima, and Hamaguchi you can clearly see what the true, objectively canon ending is intended. Team (insert ship here) for life!”

On the other hand...

For all we know, this will be like NieR: Automana where there's 26 possible endings (technically), but we all know which one actually *is* the canon one. And no one ever argues about which ending that one is.

Which is Ending Y.

Just kidding, it's Ending E.
Somehow I think I’d be more okay with multiple endings if they at least made it clear which one was the true ending instead of making them all equal, I guess the novelty of alternate endings has its use in terms of just letting people see what could have been but if we’re really closing out the Compilation, I’d like something definitive

Well, yeah. Thats always an option, I think multiple endings are more about the experience than anything else though.

I have a response to those kinds of arguments, even if I don't say it. I find this stuff weird though, because if you do have multiple scenarios and each are canon, then if you feel strongly about a particular ending then its your personal canon, so what if someone else prefers another? It's not like people don't head canon stuff anyway. Even if there is one ending people argue the toss over what is going on ?

Personally, I'd make 5 endings, 4 of them really fan friendly, one of them utterly offensive to everyone, let folk argue the shit over which is the one true canon and then once they'd eaten each other alive come out, say careful what you wish for, and then declare the my little ponies surrounding Sephiroth one as the canon.

Seriously though, I do understand what you mean.

That would be cool, it would be interesting to see how some of the original text is framed. But, only if you have time.
