As to Cloud's Crystal- it's just a materia. It's solid green, does not glow, has no white intersecting lines, and for that matter is just plain far too big. It's not the white materia. It's just A materia.
Similarly, WoL's is JUST a crystal from his world, but no special one. Firion's is Just a crystal from his world. Onion Knight's is just a crystal from his world. Cecil's is just a crystal. Bartz's is just a crystal shard. Terra's is just a magicite. Squall's is just a crystal, and may be a draw point. Zidane's is a smaller version of the crystal at the heart of the crystal world. Tidus's is a sphere.
Y'know what all things things have in common? They are the sources of magic and power on their respective worlds.
You know what relevance the flowers have? They represent a peaceful world, in short, Firion's dream which Cloud adopts.
They also appear first when Squall is visible, not Cloud.
And when CORNERIA CASTLE is considered worth pointing out, if they were an external callout, the Ultimania would have mentioned it.
We're not denying it represents Aerith because ZOMFG OH NOES TEH CLERISTH! But because IT DOESN'T.

I dunno why some people think Aerith when they think of materia. I really don't. I and most people think of Yuffie...

If you want to say the flowers are a reference to Aerith, I don't have a problem with that. When you think of flowers and a Final Fantasy, you think of FFVII because of Aerith. But since when is Aerith represented by materia? Oh that's right, never The way I see it, you get the flowers or the materia, not both.

You know, with this thought it mind I don't see why it couldn't be the White Materia, especially with how Zidane's is a smaller version of another crystal from his world so that means size probably doesn't matter, but that still wouldn't be Clerith proof. It's a connection to the planet; a connection to Cloud's world. When you think about it that could be any materia, really. So no one can say for certain that it is or not, and with that in mind it can't be used as proof anyway. Because really, if it was a reference and we were supposed to take it that way it would have been more obvious.

I know you said that you haven't looked at a lot of the extra stuff, but I must ask the question we ask all Clerii, "Where in what you have seen of the compilation does Cloud show romantic interest in Aerith?"

The second part is half true. Cloud has always loved Tifa and there was no 'moving onto' her. They reveal their feelings for one another at the end of the game and start a relationship together. They are together in the compilation. That is trufax stated by canon. And of course he keeps memories of Aerith with him, just like he does of Zack.
