@Mako, well, there is the possibility that the one person is the unrequited love of another, but you tend to be pretty explicit about that like you are in English about the same thing. In any case, someone telling me, from a third person perspective, that X is koibito to Y, that they think X and Y are lovers. When a creator says such, even indirectly, I tend to trust them.
When a creator has a character say 'X is my koibito', I look at the context, like I would if someone said 'X is my lover/beloved/sweetheart/fruit cocktail'

I'm not sure what fan translations you're reading but I'm pretty confident in hitoshura's work which has surpassed some of the official translations by far. In regards to your point, I'm glad you acknowledge that C/A doesn't hold a candle in terms of canon towards C/A. We're making strides here.

Their "tid bits" mean something, yes. They mean they care about each other. But how does that automatically cross over into the romantic sphere? Is it not entirely possible for them to have an emotional and caring connection that is platonic and still loving? Where is this romance and partnership?



No one's saying Aerith isn't important to Cloud. It's the whole "Aerith is Cloud's lover/past lover" that is being questioned. Aerith was important to Cloud but if you're going to try to shoehorn his feelings of guilt and sadness into feelings of romantic love, you need proof of said romantic love. Of course Cloud isn't going to forget Aerith. But how is that automatically, romance?



So a fun date, where they don't even touch or kiss, is indicative of romance? Not only that, but they only knew each other for 2 weeks at most.

And its funny you bring up Cait Sith, since the FFVII Ultimania Omega explicitly states his fortunes are mostly wrong.



No one is saying Cloud doesn't love Aerith. Clearly he feels love for her. However, we're talking about romantic love. Cloud clearly cares about her and loves her like a close friend and important person who made an impact on his life. But Tifa's love is something different and romantic. That's the point.

Key difference is, is that they had years of being together and literally became a couple after their chit chats and dialogue. That wasn't the sum total of their experience.

Lol. I do believe that flowers (the ones we see in FFVII Quex, not in general) symbolize Aerith, but not at all times. Same thing with the materia- materia isn't really Aerith centric.

Let's see... there's no mention of Aerith in Cloud's dialogue, so I'm not sure it makes much sense for the flowers to represent her. If anything, Zack should be popping up since Cloud mentions him. You know, in the Ultimania for Dissidia, neither the flowers or materia are mentioned in the links to FFVII section so... guess we're all wrong.

I'm not saying they represent Aerith or prove Clerith or anything but I've never heard of flowers in general representing FFVII. They could simply represent peace. Cloud feels at peace now that his mission is over. ... of course now that I think about it the flowers in the church were growing where the lifestream was... so flowers do kinda represent life so yeah that makes sense.

And no materia is NOT Aerith centered... in fact it's more Yuffie centered. So Dissidia's ending is clearly Clouffie

I can understand the materia being more related to everyone in VII, but the flowers? Come on Aerith was the flower girl, she sold flowers, lived around flowers, bloomed just about the only flowers in VII, and Nomura even said that flowers represent Aerith.
