The Hobbit

I can't stop being super-annoyed at the special effects used on Legolas's face. I realize the intention is to make him look other-worldly, but it's stylistically inconsistent with the original trilogy! MAN does it annoy me!

I dunno, lets try to square the circle and say because he was younger he looked different...because ....er.....Elves are magic. Or some shit. :monster:

I watched the trailer almost immediately when I saw it was out. And now I'm looking even more forward to the movie than I did before. It looks amazing! And the song on the trailer was a great choice. I can't wait for the movie to be out. *fangirl*

@Shademp: Yeah Legolas looks silly. But if they hadn't done anything to his face he would look older than in the LOTR where he is supposed to be older. Not that the effects fool anyone, he still looks old. :P

^Welcome back by the way :)

Last time I cried watching a film was Rattatoulie (I was preg though!) I think I might cry my face off with this...

The effects indeed fail in de-aging Orlando.

Re: spoilers, I actually went into the first LotR movie blind, no trailers, no nothing. All I knew was that my brother and mother had read the books and liked it, so, :monster:. It was a pretty awesome experience. I think that may also have been the second movie I ever watched in the cinemas, mind.

I never read LOTR (still haven't!) but we had a copy with the Alan Lee illustrations that was pretty awesome, so when the film came out I was like wow this is just like the book.

Anyway, I'm itching for the extended edition of DOS. I'm kind of hoping
that there would be a scene when they're in Erebor trying to lure smaug where the other Dwarves are thinking 'this plan is fucking batshit' but they're afraid to say anything to Thorin because he's tripping balls. Doubtful that would happen, but that whole bit just seemed pretty badly thought out, and it's one way they could square the circle. :monster;

I dunno, I mean, I have all three extended LOTR -the dvd box set - was there an even moar extended version? I suppose what I'm saying is are you sure for definite thats going to happen? :monster:

Anyway I already have the extended UJ so it would stick in my craw if I didn't have the other two. Even if that means I have to buy it all again in 3 years or something.

Also, the only time I've ever watched a bluray was when Lovefilm sent us Paul and to be honest I don't feel like there was any benefit to be had in bluray - even on our big hd tv. But I am a luddite :monster:

EDIT: Ignore this, I misread - you mean both Hobbit and LOTR together. I wonder if they'll really do it though....with how Hobbit has had a mixed reception?

Oh, they'll definitely put them all together at some point. Of that, I have no doubt.

As for whether the current Extended Editions will get more extended, those for LOTR didn't, so probably not. I see no danger in buying them as they're released.

At the very least, they do extra shit for the big compilation boxsets of things like the Aliens films, and other big series of films, so there might be extra BTS stuff and other things like they do for them. (They also have optional alternate film versions on those, so it'd be neat to have Normal/Extended/Final versions if that's a thing that they're into).

I'm all about comprehensive boxsets. :3

Any additional film footage is a must for me, but the other stuff - I mean, I don't think they could really top 9 hours of docu stuff anyway - but if thats all they did I'd probably just watch it on youtube or something.

Having said that....I could got for another 9 hours of archery practice in dwarf bootcamp alone.... hnnng. :monster:

Like I say, I'll be very surprised if more movie is coming. As for behind-the-scenes stuff, who knows -- I never quite finished watching all the stuff for the LOTR extendeds, so there's little point in me worrying about that.

I'm really looking forward to all the moments that will make the journey in Fellowship feel like a complete, unmitigated disaster (and make Legolas & Gimli's relationship feel more awesome).

^^I really am apreciating the whole set-up for the Legolas/Gimil dynamic and why it completely subverts what everyone in-universe thinks of elf/dwarf relations.

I'm excited for this to get into a full-blown LotR mood, what with this, Shadow of Mordor, & the final film approaching. (I'm hoping they put out at least one more of their little Dev videos soon).

With Thrain, I'm curious whether or not he's entirely cut from the theatrical version of the film. Either way- lots more goodness is in store over the next couple weeks!!

He's not in it IIRC, Gandalf just goes to Dol Guldur and gets smooshed by the necromancer. Though he might get mentioned prior to that I can't remember
